Based on what we have so far..
We can pretty much predict that the roster is :
Quan chi
Erron Black
Ermac
Sub-zero
Scorpion
Reptile
Liu Kang
D'vorah
Kitana
Kano
Kotal Khan
Kung Lao
Kung Jin (Bow Guy)
Kenshi
Takeda
Cassie
Sonya
Johnny Cage
Jacqui
Jax
Raiden
Ferra Torr
Milena
Shinnok
and MAYBE rain..
Goro is a DLC, so it doesn ́t count..
Don ́t you guys think the factions are VERY unbalanced??
Come on, who is in "Brotherhood of Shadows"? Shinnok, Quan Chi, who else?
Black Dragon ? Kano,, and ???
Special Forces : Jaqui, Cassie, Sonya, Cage, Jax, Kenshi, Takeda....

So it makes me think that the roster will actually be much bigger than those 28-30 characters..
Is pretty logical that it will have the same number of characters in each faction, right ??

Why do all the factions need equal representation? Are they all going to play equal parts in story mode? I'm guessing not.
It's important to note, you get to play as whatever character you like, no matter what faction you choose for the factions online. So equal representation in that regard really doesn't matter.

Equal? is quite a leap from what people are asking for, wanting something more balanced isn't unreasonable, if they are going to take advantage of the faction presented on the story to create this feature it would only make sense for people to have preference towards a particular faction based on the playable characters that represent it, it's inevitable if one faction has one character an the other has 7, people are going to feel that particular faction is under-represented, because it is.
Saying that the number of reps from a particular faction is based directly on its importance to the story is arguable at this point.
And of course I'm not referring to the faction feature but to the overall roster and impact on the story.

I fully understand how the faction system works but they still need a bit of balance its no good having one Lin kuei, one brotherhood of shadow, one black dragon, 10 white lotus and 10 special forces like everyone is predicting the roster to be!!! They won't be completely balanced obviously but I would hope to see at least 2-3 from each faction just for a bit of variety from the usual boring earthrealm fighters from special forces and white lotus that everyone is so certain on returning!

I wonder the same thing actually...ı think that each faction should at least have 6 characters YET for instance who is in Lin Kuei except Sub-zero ?...and The brotherhood of shadows faction has only 1 konfirmed kharakter,evil necromancer Quan chi as far as I know !

I don't really feel like going through and looking/checking, but have the factions ever been close to equally represented in the games as you are suggesting should be the case here? I'd guess no, and personally don't see the need for them to be. The factions mode is just for fun, and the story mode is going to tell whatever it needs to tell, it won't simply be an all out war between all the factions. I mean, let's not glance over the fact that Scorpion is tied to the Shirai Ryu, Kotal has his group, Mileena has hers, and some have no clan affiliation. So it'd be quite tough to get them as close as you are hoping for. Do we add Shirai Ryu members and Lin Kuei members just to make them closer to the Special Forces, or do we take away from any clan that has too many just for the purpose of adding in members form the other factions? Do Kabal and Hsu Hao/Jarek get an inclusion just based on their faction ties?
Personally, I don't see it as a big deal...but that's just my opinion.

This. Some people will never get it.
Factions have NOTHING to do with the roster.
Its solely a identification of the player.

Probably because they never said anywhere that the roster would be seperated in 5 equal factions, but that it's rather an online feature?

Well, 'Special Forces' is way in the surplus zone. Worst faction of the lot, yet NRS deem it appropriate to include so many. Not a fan of it.

Yes it is a source of identification for the player but why do people choose certain factions? Because their favourite characters are a part of them, for instance I like the brotherhood of shadow but only because it has Noob and Reiko in it not quan chi I actually hate quan chi so if he is the only brotherhood of shadow member in MKX then I will not be picking the brotherhood of shadow as my faction. I don't think people want to see 5 characters from each faction (well maybe some do) however it doesn't make sense to have half of the roster be special forces and white lotus and only have 1 member in the other 3 factions it is stupid! And all of the factions (except black dragon) have multiple good, interesting, popular characters that would fit in with the story of MKX so there is no reason why each faction (except black dragon) shouldn't have at least 2 if not 3 members in the game.

I have a sneaking suspicion we all are going to be happily surprise about the roster size.
The OP's list is a good representation of what we know so far. But I think there are still a chunk of characters that we don't know. + any unlockables that NRS does not want to market.

Personally I think it's a waste, not having factions connected to the characters you play as. What's the point? It would be so much more interesting to see on a global scale which character specific factions were winning/losing. If it's not attached to anything then it might as well be Team A, Team B, Team C, etc.
The unbalance is partly in the factions, but more so with evil / neutral / good. With the characters seen and possible in we have:
Neutral:
- Reptile (team Kotal)
- Ferra (team Kotal)
- Dvorah (team Kotal)
- Erron Black (team Kotal)
- Ermac (team Kotal?)
- Kotal
* Rain
* Liu Kang
Evil:
* Mileena
* Reiko (team Mileena?)
* Baraka (team Mileena)
- Goro (team Mileena?)
- Quan Chi (team Brotherhood of Shadows)
- Kano (team Black Dragon)
* Shinnok (team Brotherhood of Shadows?)
* Sindel
Good:
- Scorpion (find this very odd with his costume and hell references but okay)
- Sub-Zero
- Kitana
- Raiden
- Kung Lao
- Cassie (team SF)
- Takeda (team SF)
- Kung Jin (team SF)
- Jacqui (team SF)
* Jax (team SF)
* Sonya (team SF)
* Johnny (team SF)
* Li Mei (team SF)
Neutral:
- Reptile (team Kotal)
- Ferra (team Kotal)
- Dvorah (team Kotal)
- Erron Black (team Kotal)
- Ermac (team Kotal?)
- Kotal
* Rain
* Liu Kang
Evil:
* Mileena
* Reiko (team Mileena?)
* Baraka (team Mileena)
- Goro (team Mileena?)
- Quan Chi (team Brotherhood of Shadows)
- Kano (team Black Dragon)
* Shinnok (team Brotherhood of Shadows?)
* Sindel
Good:

- Sub-Zero
- Kitana
- Raiden

Factions the system has jack shit to do with the issue at hand. Here we have Mortal Kombat, a game with 6+ realms and multiple clans in each yet we have like, 8 Special Forces/Earthrealm characters.

This is why I hope they add more than just two classic characters as DLC. The factions r a big part of this game and they should be balanced

Faction wars are purely about online competition between players. I'm not saying the factions will play no role in the story mode whatsoever...obviously they will, but they aren't that fucking important in the actual story. The story isn't going to be battle of the factions so a supposed "imbalance" doesn't really matter.
