Well for one, WB doesn't own the entire Midway catalog, so having past Midway characters in MKX like Torque isn't going to happen.

And for another thing, Spawn was born from the same "Dark and gritty 90s" extreme mind set that MK came out of. So if there was ANY comic book character that would fit into MK, outside of maybe Jackie Estacado from The Darkness, it would be Spawn. And while the Spawn comics are absolute trash, the character itself is perfectly suited for something like Mortal Kombat.

Ed's words about Kratos were "Not likely, he's awesome but we don't wana repeat"... That doesn't sound like a definitive NO to me. LoL. Also, Ed's tweet with RED & WHITE Oreos garnered some silly Banter from SonySantaMonica (makers of God of War). And I agree 100% that he would be way better in MKX with the Variation system.

@DG10a, I always felt like Shinnok's demon form in MKmSZ was inspired by Violator's demon form.

I hope Spawn only has his cape in intros and Outros. I dont want that thing clipping all over the place. LoL

The cape is too large. So if he has it, it would only show up in his intro and outro.

If anything, the one thing I'd want to see them spend the time animating would be his chains.

The modified unreal3 engine looks good but I don't think we'll see good physics until the next game. As far as cloth and stuff like that. I noticed that cassies hair texture doesn't look like my avatar anymore. It's more plastic like that robin Williams toys movie. Hair and capes are tough in 3d though, I'm not hating.

I was kinda pissed spawn wasn't on Netflix. I wanted to watch it again, it's been years. Shits probably 5 bucks at Walmart if you can find it in that mound of loosies.

Save yourself the trouble. That movie is terrible. Here's a short, 7 min Spawn movie that is closer in tone and does Spawn better than that 90s movie.

Writing the story is crucial, as for coming up with a list of characters that will be in the game and their role in the story. A more logical reason would be because the creators had no reason to put them in the story.

DLC muddies the water a bit on that front. Had these characters been available at release, then the argument I made in my last post becomes more valid. It would be interesting if they decided to roll out additional story chapters as time passes, but I think we both know that won't happen.

That was pretty awesome. It's no trouble, I can enjoy terrible movies pretty easily. It comes with being a mst3k and rifftrax fan over the years.

Spawn is honestly one of the best characters in comics , I understand people see him as not worthy of Mortal Kombat but if he's not good enough list me someone better suited then him , and please be specific .

Disclaimer: I agree that Spawn is cool and hip and leather jackets and sunglasses. That said, if we're talking comics, then DC (gotta have that synergy) martial arts specialists like Lady Shiva or Hellhound could be argued as better fits.

Well we have enough ninja like character's without shiva especially if tremor comes back , but both are top picks they really are but idk if dc would allow them to get mutilated especially with there batman roots . Also spawn is not as cool to alot of people as he used to be .

I think personally Spawn would fit well into the Mortal Kombat universe and possibly play a good part and tie into a part of the nether realm. Spawn is one of the very few comic characters that would tie well into the series unlike Superman. I never been a fan of the superhero crossover to the MK Universe but Spawn would be a great exception! Would be dope to play as him.

spawn dosen't need to be in the main story, but finishing the ladder (arcade mode) with him, he has to have a catchy outro (like freddy had... being banished by nightwolf to "dream land") + he needs a good introduction in the mk univers.
imo
if i remember, shinnok took the Netherrealm ( hell) from Lucifer... and here spawn fits perfectly... he could be lucifers champion, to take back hell. Spawn is neither good or bad... but he will be an enemy to the brotherhood of shadows.
p.s.
he will be a dlc. don't like it? don't buy it! simple!

That's a matter of opinion, but your stance is sensible nonetheless. We can't really judge based on the last game, because we knew the roster we were getting and nobody was left out. That is, unless you consider C/Khameleon important, but then again Freddy and Kratos didn't play like them. MKX will be more telling. We don't know how they'll play yet, but I'm willing to bet that people will try to draw comparisons. I personally don't think that a guest character playing uniquely makes the complaint less valid. NRS has done decently with designing the newcomers so far and thus it's still a bit disheartening to me that they and WB continue to opt for the outside characters instead of creating more of their own or revamping existing MK fighters.

Those who like guests can have them, but it's far from my cup of tea.

I think Spawn is a logically superior choice to Mario. The fun isn't "How craaaazy is that?!" it's the what-if scenario of those compatible worlds colliding. If you take Al Simmons and change him into being a full-fledged MK character that is reminiscent of Spawn, you lose that quality and now you just have a rip-off of Spawn. I would personally prefer the guest characters to have a superficial "dimension-travel" story because making guest characters a legitimate part of the canon is like getting a fly in your ointment. The story shouldn't be taken seriously because the participation of the character in the game isn't that serious. Just my two cents... It's not a ripoff character if it IS said character. As far as redesigns go Scorpion in Injustice is the perfect example of what I'm trying to get at. They re designed him to look like he's part of DC and IMO they nailed it, he looks like he could be in cahoots with Ra's al Ghul. Once again just my opinion, I think they should have made him a cannon character vs "dimension travel story" as Injustice is NRS's own thing, they can do whatever they please with it, It's an alternate DC universe. I think there's nothing wrong with doing the same thing to existing characters, It's more interesting to me than throwing a marketable character in who doesn't fit. One last time, just my opinion lol and I totally understand what you're getting at.

While were at it, should we just include the Predator rumors in this thread too?

Design wise, I'd be crazy to say he doesn't fit. The cyborgs are clearly inspired by him. Story wise and character wise... the dudes a freaking Alien lol. The Aztec/ jungle warrior stuff TOTALLY works now that kotal is in the picture and they seem to be expanding Outworlds desert/ jungle areas. I definitely think he's a better fit than spawn and man oh man the fighting variations just write themselves... but the dude's still an Alien lol
