Saw this on TYM and thought I'd make a similar thread here since I haven't seen one dedicated to it yet. So in the gameplay trailer from E3 we actually get our first look at the "multiple variations" of characters Ed Boon mentioned on Twitter last week. There are three distinctive versions of Scorpion in the trailer who seem to do different things based on items he has.
So the first variation is Scorps sans swords, or any notable weapons; his hands are either glowing orange or on fire and he is seen in the trailer tossing fireballs.
Scorps two has the two katanas from MK9 and is up close, hacking, slashing and teleporting much like his MK9 counterpart.
Scorps number three--and probably the most compelling--sports some sort of glowing, orange device on ihs belt and he lifts it in the air to summon a demon that holds Sub-Zero in stun.

I noticed this when I was watching the trailer, but never put two and two together until I read the same post on TYM. I like the variations Scorpion has and I'm excited to see variations of other characters. It's a great idea having the option of choosing a certain style to play with a character instead of being stuck with just one. I hope that you have to select what variation you want to use prior to beginning the battle though, especially if a character like Scorpion has three different sets to choose from.

Did anyone else notice the part where Scorpion hit Sub-Zero in the face and it looked like he was starting an X-ray then it cut to different gameplay. This means that characters either have multiple X-ray moves or each style has a different one. I am certainly interested to see more about this.l

Do you mean the bit where he whacks him in the face with a branch. I reckon we'll be seeing some background XRay attacks.

although this does worry me that this will limit the amount of characters we get..

This is my worry as well. But im anxious to see more details!
Did anyone notice any variations on subzero? Only thing is noticed that changed was he was sporting an "ice mask" in one fight. Could be evidence of different fighting variation or just a common thing that happens to subby. My guess is that his different variations will change his in-combo-weapons. In the trailer he was using daggers but I assuming another variations we will see his ice kai blade.

Yep that's the one. Maybe they are integrating background weapons into X- based on the background as well. This could be interesting. I'm sure with all the have going on it'll be an awesome game. They will probably have the time to make it balanced for each fighting style as well.

Sub-Zero has 3 versions too:

He never has the 3 at the same time, loke Scorpion.

This is what MKDA multi-fighting styles should have been. :)
I feel like the MK Team has taken different features from many past games and refined them. Run from MK3, Environment interaction from MK3-MK4, and a little bit of multi fighting style from MKDA. Should be an interesting mix.
