When Cassie Cage was announced, she seemed like a great concept for a new character. She would combine the movies of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, therefore would be likely be replacing them on the roster (which I was fine with).
Next we heard about Jacqui Briggs and Takeda from the comics. I assumed Jacqui would replace Jax on the roster, and Takeda would possibly replace Kenshi and his moveset. To me, the addition of more family member descendants took away some of the novelty of Cassie.
From the trailer we also got Kung Lao's cousin Kung Jin. At this point, the descendant characters concept has already gotten stale in my opinion. I also don't see why a character like Kung Jin even needs to be related to Kung Lao, instead of being just a solid warrior in his own right.
Now we are getting confirmations of Johhny Cage and Kenshi in the game and a high probably of getting Sonya and Jax. So my question is why did they create all these new characters to take the reigns if they are also keeping their parents around? I no longer get the point of why they are introduced.
Am I the only one who thinks this?
I could be wrong about all the parents returning.
I'm also expecting the game to be so good that I just don't care once I start playing.

Takeda is nothing like kenshi, he's scorpions aprentice
Cassie doesnt play like sonya and only has 2 moves similar to johnny
i agree with you about the kung jin thing, but it doesnt matter if hes related or not, how doies that effect anything negatively
we know nothing about jaqcui, but it would make sense for the daughter of someone in the special forces to be in the special forces.
theres also a thread for bitching about the roster.

The point of the descendants was never to replace the veterans, but to add an interesting ripple to the lore.
You just assumed the kids would replace the parents.

I can see the point to introducing the new characters with some of the parent characters just to help establish and introduce them. Plus it may too much for some to just get flat out new characters so what I kind of saw happenig was the four new characters plus one or two parent characters in this game before cutting away the parents all together in the new game. I still hope it is only johnny and kenshi returning that I can live with. I really don't see Jax coming back he is boring and crap he was terrible in the last game and doesn't deserve a spot in this game. As for Sonya I don't know she will probably be back but I would rather either her or cage not both it is just over kill. As for that roster leak we will have 10 earthrealm/special forces/white lotus characters who Are family members!!! Doesn't create much variety and diversity in the roster of you ask me

I still like the idea of new blood I hope they are 2 DLC newbies to come to a total of 10 new characters for MKX. it makes a lot of sense to me.

I hope in the next reveal or stream johnny, sonya, and jax get confirmed so we can put an end to these stupid threads.

When they get announced it'll just be twenty threads about;
"Why is _______ in MKX?"
Or
"Worst roster ever."
Or my personal favourite
"Realistic and Balanced Roster Prediction"
It won't end 'till April 14th.

I think Cassie, Takeda, kung jin, and jaqcui all look great and excited to see their gameplay,
who cares if they are related to someone, tons of people are related in MK.
They are just MK fighters, that is all

Maybe because NRS one day hopes to retire the likes of Johnny, Sonya, Jax, and Kung Lao since they should eventually die of old age one day, and having their relatives carry their legacy and get accepted by the fans is the first step to doing that.
Just one of many theories I pull from the depths of me bung hole lol

I used to think the same thing so I can sympathize with your argument. If the characters play out like the comics then they will be good additions. When they showed that cassies shadow kick was a part of a combo string and not a special move, I knew cage was in. She didn't replace him yet but she will eventually. That's why she exists, to portray time before the inevitable reboot lol.
The mk mouse club is the next generation of earthrealm fighters. The mortal mentors will still be around a bit. Im guessing the roster will be a mix of earth/outworld and time doesn't phase the outworld folk so they will look familiar. That or add completely new races like kotal and dvorah when they get deeper into outworlds traditions and people. Like they call the outworld throne the "kahnum", I find that shit interesting for some reason.
Besides, that's just the story. We still don't know if the stacked deck of humans and earthrealmers is like that for a reason. Like factions and all of that stuff, realm invasions. They are so cryptic about their products it's hard to tell sometimes lol. They usually deliver so I'm not worried about it.

Man, I need to get back into the MKX comics.
Kahnum, huh? Now I understand Kotal being Kotal Kahn better...Kahn is indeed a title. Just as Khan was in the case of Genghis. I am pretty sure Kahnum is a reference to the Khanates of the Mongol empire. If you're not familiar with it, look it up.
This pleases the history nerd in me. Kahnum...nice.

I agree with op. Stupid fucking decision. Not to mention alot of great characters now won't be in the game because of these stupid family trees. Sonya, jax, and JC - maybe even Kung lao have no reason to be taking up the precious character slots. What the fuck was NRS smoking?

MK is a fighting game first and foremost. As long as the descendants are balanced and have fun/good gameplay is all that matters.
I do think that Jacqui, Kung Jin and Takeda didn't need to be the offsprings of Jax, Kung Lao, and Kenshi, respectively.
It seems that Jax, Kung Lao and Kenshi are back primarily because of their offsprings, so fans of these three don't feel threatened by potential replacements. Which might not have been necessary, if again, Jacqui, Kung Jin and Takeda weren't biologically related to the old guard in the first place.
The fact that these three's parents are in the game probably means the offsprings' movesets won't be too similar (we already know Kung Jin is different from Kung Lao), so there isn't a need to ease the transition, so to speak, by including all the parents on the roster. Jax and Kung Lao are dead, and should have at least sat this game out.
Hell, if Jax and Kung Lao weren't their respective offsprings' parents, they could just come back from the dead after MKX, as young as they were when they died. I think they're no more likely to stay old than dead, so this way, we wouldn't risk all of the old guard coming back to life and/or getting rejunevated (which I can guarentee will happen).
As for them taking away Cassie's novelty, imo, her being the first confirmed offspring is (well was) her primary appeal. Gameplay-wise, while she lacks many of her parents' moves, she's still an hybrid of other characters. My point being, is that the other three sound distinctive enough not to need the offspring label to "get over", in wrestling terms. So I do suppose they undermine Cassie a bit.

There's no point whatsoever. It's just blatantly stupid.
NRS did a lousy job. Fact. Face it all you who will call me a hater.
I admit, I hate things done with no brain, like MK X
