First off. No, this thread isn't about brutalities. This is a thread where you brutalize all the things that piss you off about MK, with intelligent input on how they can be more bearable in MKX.

What this is is a very cautiously optimistic thread made specifically for the purpose of sharing your pet peeves about the MK of old, the E3 trailers of new, and your personal opinion of how these flaws should be improved. This was inspired by a heated debate in the Box Art Reveal thread, where somebody mentioned that another user should "make a thread bitching about a character the didn't like." Personally, I thought there was actually some potential behind this statement.

Now, if NRS is true to their word, then part of their studio members do browse these forums from time to time. With (minimal) luck, your rants may be taken into consideration. Many masochists agree that the best form of self improvement comes from brutally honest opinions. This isn't a hate thread. It's a "get it off your chest" thread.

I realize the risk that is involved in these kind of threads, so in my nonexistant power invested in me as OP, I will request this thread closed if we turn this into a debacle most threads tend to become. However, with luck, open minds, and adult tones (which I know I'm terrible at) this could turn into a thread that brings up thorough points of characters, game play mechanics, secrets, etc.

TLDR, Bitch about the things you hate about MK9-MKX, and provide useful input while remaining courteous to your peers.

To kick us off.

I am deeply interested in this idea of time jumping. I feel like NRS is trying to put a more linear "Memento Mori" vibe into effect, and with luck, this could happen. However, the storytelling in MK has become such cheese, a part of me feels as if this storyline is going to be totally butchered. The team needs to focus on the views of both the baddies and the heroes to make a truly immersive plot point, while retaining their potential for plot twists and unexpected events. Part of why the MK9 story drove me nuts is because the villains were 98% used for fist fodder. There could have been some deep plot progression. Instead of seeing Stryker whoop Ermac's ass (wut) why not let us play as Sheevah and get a peak into the Shokan/Centaur rivalry while Motaro was still alive? Why not take the role of Shang Tsung to get a better analysis of Mileena's birth, or Kintaro's rise to power?

Using Legacy of Kain: Defiance as a test dummy, I love how that was a story based upon two perspectives that lead to a battle between the two protagonists. If you get the feeling that you are in control of the chess game, only to have the board tipped over in your lap, THAT, my friends, is a good story.

Yeah, I despised how all the baddies in MK9 existed to serve as nothing but cannon fodder in the story mode. Seriously, would Stryker beat Kintaro, one of the hardest bosses in MK history, that easily otherwise?

But then again, look who wound up dead in the end.

That's what makes it doubly irritating. Make some trade offs. I'm by no means a Kung Lao fanboy, but I am sick of seeing that character get fucked out of his potential so often. On the flip side, despite what I said about Sheevah, does she really need to be around for more sequels?
