Granted MKX is early in development but I think it should still be able to invoke that sense of mystery and intrigue that MK is known for. You know, that unnerving sense of adventure that you get in the pit of your stomach. It makes you excited to ponder the story and what secrets the game holds. MK2 especially delivered this awesome feeling. Even MK4, MKDA, and MKD with all their new characters delivered this charm. What is it about MKX that just doesn't seem right? Maybe it's the iffy story tidbits, or the ridiculous character names, or maybe it's just me. I just don't know. How do you guys feel?

I already have that feeling. I find this game to have exactly that classic MK charm that it should without any doubt.

I explained this in my latest thread.

This game is gonna feel very different, but I don't mind at all. I think people that do have just been so biased by the 90s games.

Those first 3 games have just taken control over people's minds. Since 2005 after MKDA and MKD, we've been revisiting the early games over and over. They come out with Shaolin Monks that brings us back to MK2. Then they come out with Armageddon that brings back all the old characters and the old stages. Then we have MK9 that just redoes the first 3 games over again. So with all that piled on top of years and years of seeing these original characters, seeing TV shows and movies and comics and merchandise of the first 3 games, when something finally NEW comes into MK, it seems out of place and different and that's why it's been so odd to some people. But in reality, I think it's perfectly fitting for MK.

I'm ok with having new characters, in fact I welcome it, as long as the game has that classic MK aura that we all know and love. I just don't think MKX has developed it yet. Time will tell.

I believe this "aura" is just an illusion created by your subconscious. You're seeing these new characters and stages and that's causing you to feel unusual about it. That's all.

Not much of the classic stuff has been revealed yet. And that's probably the major problem at that point. I love the new characters, arenas, gameplay possibilities like interaction with the environment but it all makes it look a little like a comic book style of game to me. That's a nice step forward but hopefully the balance with the classic MK stuff will be uphold when they start revealing what's expected.

You might be right. I just need to take off those rose colored nostalgia glasses. I know Boon and NRS will deliver in the end.

I like stuff to stand on their own merit, so I purposefully disregard how it's not MK.

Though I don't have to do that much, this game's first impressions are genuinely better than MK9's.

I am actually having the vibe of MK fully. Not sure why... it's not like I want it to be 99% new stuff but I don't know... it just feels MK to me.

My judgement will be preserved till further info gets out.

but thats what might mess hte game. you think if they made the enxt gta about alines and superheroes instead of real people the game would sell and be looked at the same? no gta will stick to its gangster core. another exmaple. saints row. it went from a gana game that sold very well to a fnatasy game with superheroes and it failed. too much change form the core can cause problems becuase people arent getting the game no more for what they used to get it for. but i dont think it will fial. if they have fujin the game is a midnight buy for me. if not then idk.

What is so entirely different about this game? The old MKs were about crazy looking characters beating each other up and murdering each other, and this MK is about crazy looking characters beating each other up and murdering each other. Substitute the new characters they just revealed for old characters, same with these new stages, and you wouldn't be saying this.

Funny. I have the feeling i had once with MK2. MKX is dark and mysterious. It has exactly the same atmosphere as MK2 for me. And i loved MK2! So, is has enough charm for me.

To be honest... I read 4! threads about MKX "complaints". From "i don't like the new chars" to "i'm worried about a lack of old returning chars". And now another one. I know there are doubts and worries but it has been two weeks since MKX was announced. And we saw maybe 10% of the game. I really don't understand why we have to discuss those things if we didn't even saw everything.

It still feels like a MK game to me. The new stuff helps keep the MK feel fresh.

People's rejection of anything that feels remotely new is really laughable. Stryker and the cyborgs were once deemed out of place. Now it seems fans have forgotten just how unpopular they used to be. If fans are now accepting of those characters, they should have no problem welcoming the newcomers. D'Vorah and Torr/Ferra feel fresh, but I doubt many fans would have deemed them "out of place" if they were introduced in the first two games. It's only because they're new that there seems to be a little animosity toward them. That, and the fact that the story will head twenty-five years into the future, inevitably changing things.

It's just you I think. There has never been this much hype for a Mortal Kombat game.

I don't know it has dark fantasy humanoid characters, an ominous, sinister tone and Scorpion and Sub-Zero. It feels like MK to me.

Seriously people this classic MK charm you keep talking about is what had us regressing after MKDA. What keeps Scorpion going after Sub-Zero everything moving forward at a snails pace.

I am just so done with that "classic MK charm" I'm where I was back in 2002 and 2008, ready to move on to the new. Back in 2011 we got a game oozing with that classic MK charm and it's still very playable. If you want that charm then just got back to that game.

And I think I better word for this MK charm is nostalgia.

Okay, I've seen you complaining about this in the "Just my $0.02" thread and I have a feeling you're not a Mortal Kombat fan at ALL. If Fujin isn't in you aren't buying it until what? It's half off right? You mention that this MK game isn't even in your top 5 for 2015. (btw, I do hope Fujin is in, but who knows)

This goes for everyone doubting this new installment of Mortal Kombat. MKX definitely feels like Mortal Kombat game to me, it has the same feeling of mystery and darkness. In fact, it looks darker and more sinister than ever, it's the change that is putting most of you off. I know we all remember and cherish the golden age of MK1-MKT, but we already got our fill of nostalgia with Mortal Kombat (2011), don't you think it's time for something new? I do. This is a time of change and it's Mortal Kombats chance to finally re-invent itself. It's finally chance to become something great and make up for some of the terrible choices made from MK:DA-MK:A. Let's embrace it, even if your favorite character may be left out, because I seriously doubt they won't return in the next installment.

Just wait till they show a bit more, you'll get that good ol' Mortal Kombat feeling again if you haven't already.

I think maybe once you see a few more classic characters, then maybe you'll get the MK feeling again.

Well, we've seen mostly new faces, new arenas, and even new moves for returning characters.

The new characters are not gods, sorcerers, ninjas, or shokans. I''m okay with that, but I understand those fans who feel... alienated?! It would have been better to see 3 familiar faces and 3 new faces. I love Cassie Cage, but her model's unfinished. An iconic character should have taken her spot. It would have improved the "MK feel".

The new arenas also lack familiar elements. Don't get me wrong. They're gorgeous, but:

Outworld marketplace - there should have been more diversity with the NPCs. Who is Blanche? And why is an old woman so close to the deadly fight?! It doesn't make sense. Are we supposed to believe that she's an extremely brave woman? I think she should be replaced with a Tarkatan, a Shokan, a curious vampire child from Nitara's race or some other semi-familiar character, representing the diversity in Outworld.

Snow Forest. Hate the name. Frozen Forest sounds cooler. We know nothing about this place. Is it in Outworld? Is it in Earthrealm or another realm? Maybe we'll learn more in the Story mode, but now this background lacks... well, it's own mythical background. It doesn't make my imagination go wild. Imagine if the stage was named Lin Kuei Forest, and there you go! With all those frozen corpses, I'd imagine that someone tried to exterminate the Lin Kuei clan for good. Now, this is the MK feel we're all looking for!

The Cove. I'm happy with this stage. It has a nethership and a skull rock... Well done for the most part! Not sure about those generic corpses in the water tho... Again, why not have drowning Tarkatans there?

That classic charm is called playing it for the first time.

With any franchise, once the first two or three games go by, the inital feeling is gone. That is to be expected. A video game series is supposed to grow and become greater with each installment. The classic feeling should be left behind and replaced with a feeling of longetivity, known as being a fan.

This feeling is meant to transpire along with the franchise. I, for one, captured this feeling by age four. lol

well i got around to mk4 kinda late so thats why im so pressed for fujin i didnt et a chance to experience him whne he was the shit. and no my top 5 for 2015 in no order are Batman Arkham Knight, Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Rise of Tomb Raider, Star wars battlefront 3. then Mkx and Legend of zelda Wiiu come in next. but also its not just fujin. im tired of seeing kano, jax, liu kang, and some others. bring in the characters who havent had as much light like Fujin, Kai,Reiko, Bo, Ashrah, Rain, Havik, Tanya, hell even hotaru had a pretty decent story. Just seems like since is going to be like half new characters ed will play it safe witht he most popular characters.

it looks weird to me honestly. But Cassie and Kahn fit perfectly. They give me the Mk Vibe. not the other two.
