I thought the story mode was bad.
Kotal was a disappointment after the build up in the comics, Sub-Zero's chapter was a laughable filler, the youngsters are annoying, the reventants are just additional punching bags, there's not enough of Shinnok, especially after he returns it all ends too quickly (plus, the corrupted version is shitty). Ermac, such a cool looking character continues to serve as a punching bag, now joined by another cool looking dude, Erron Black. And the story mode was just boring to me, with too many 'I'm going to kill you now' situations that dragged on and the kill/final blow ended up being interrupted...
The highlights, for me, were the NPCs like Fujin, Li Mei, Sareena and Rain (they all looked stunning). Too bad Fujin (as far as I know, I haven't seen 100% of cutscenes, but ~90%) just disappears after chapter 1? Wtf?!
The most interesting character in the entire story mode was actually:
