The more I read these news, the more impression I have is that Sonya is not in the game. And it kinda makes sense to be honest. What if Johnny raises his daughter alone because somehow Kano killed her? Let me explain:

As we know, Mortal Kombat 9 ended with all good guys dying except Raiden, Sonya and Johnny. Kano, meanwhile, profited large amount of money with the deals he made with Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung during the invasion. I presume that Kano and Jax's storyline are going to be partially true in this game .

Johnny and Sonya hooked up after the invasion, because they are the only survivors and because they are hot for each other (Johnny for sure in MK9...Sonya,well...she obviously likes him back,but it took her some time probably to admit).

Johnny is not an actor anymore. After all this invasion dealio, they are probably going to include his MK9 ending with Raiden sending him to train in Seido, because he is probably more serious about whole alien invasion after MK9 and feels more responsibility because other heroes are dead and Earth is defenseless. Raiden is trying to assemble new cast of heroes (I bet Cyrax and Kenshi are one of the heroes Raiden will contact).

Sonya, meanwhile, is commanding officer of the newly established Outerworld Investigation Agency (Jax was CO in the original timeline, but he is dead). She probably ends up saving Cyrax and allow him to join OIA (like in the original timeline). Or maybe someone else is going to join her there from new characters... And she is closely monitoring the whole Black Dragon and Red Dragon dealio.

Since Kano got so rich after the invasion and improves his clan with those money, maybe even advancing his own cybernetics, like in his MK9 ending. He realizes that with Sonya alive, plus Red Dragons having feud with them, he is not going to operate freely and achieve his goals. Maybe even Quan Chi pays him a visit and offers nice payment if Kano and Black Dragon attacks Sonya and OIA HQ (Quan Chi has his motives for weakening Earth defenses against Shinnok's invasion). I dunno...

So Kano and his thugs find out the OIA Headquarters location and attack. Maybe even Cassie is there as a little girl and witnesses how Black Dragons murder the soldiers, while Kano personally kills Sonya in front of her. This is the main motivation for Cassie to join the army and honor mom's memory. She swears to find Kano and murder his ass.

Anyways, I am not sure if Johnny is there or no, he might be in Seido, or he might arrive late to witness dead Sonya and save his daughter from burning HQ (Dragons decided to burn it to the ground). Maybe even he was fighting Kano himself but somehow Sonya got killed, I dunno...

Johnny is probably going to train Cassie (hence her Hollywood variation).She decides to go to the army when she is of enough age. Johnny probably understands the desire (because of Sonya) and allows it.

I just think this is the most logical chain of events based on MK9 endings and all MKX news we have so far.

I hope whatever info we get in January, these two characters get some clarification just because I think it's about time these so-called rumors get told.

I don't think Sonya will die as Kano will just probably disable her and fix her up with cybernetics and a chip, in which she will fight along side of him. Johnny Cage will be playable on the main roster.
