So... question about the revenants (story spoilers)
I haven't watched the whole thing.. but I know that Quan Chi dies, but the revenants are not free.. so why is that? What's binding them now that Quan Chi and Shinnok are gone?

My guess is the revenants fell under the control of the Netherrealm's new rulers, and they decided to hold on to their souls.

But them being freed would make sense also.

It's just how they wrote the story. It's not always going to make sense, because they do it their way, regardless of how it would realistically play out. For example, when Jax and Sub-Zero were released from Quan Chi's control, they were in the same room during the event that freed them. In actuality, all of the revenants should be free, in the room or not. It's just for story purposes basically.

So stupid...

Not you, the writers.

Even if they are free, doesnt mean they come back to life. They did originally die after all.

I guess whatever Quan Chi has done to them it doesn't wear off just because he dies. Which is fine, the various undead characters in MK have always had their own thing going on regardless of Quan Chi.

I still want to know why Jax was able to be saved and fully brought back to himself while Liu, Kung Lao and Kitana are left as is. Doesn't make a bit of sense to me.

Yeah, Kitana and Liu Kang are likely going to be the big bads for MK11 and I don't think they'll ever get revived either. So for those 2 in particular, I think their gooses are going to be cooked after MK11, they'll be killed off and cast aside like all the other main villains so far because I don't think the new heroes have any vested interest in saving them.

But afterwords...They'll be back to normal in the next reboot in 20 yearssad

It's because they'll need villains for MK11.
I'm betting Liu and Kitana aren't villains, but neutral for the next game, or they're the mid-story boss fights and not the final ones. They'll stay out of other affairs until the heroes need them to fight against some big threat like Onaga or something. They'll refuse to help until purified (which will bring back Liu, Kitana, Kabal, Smoke, Nightwolf, Strkyer, Sindel, etc and keep them all young so they can be cycled in and out of the roster and not be too old to keep fighting.) Maybe Jade comes back somehow too.

Doesn't matter since all are in the game and playable anyway.

I doubt it, the ending of MKX set them up to be the next set of villains.

Unless they decide to make MK11 Injustice: Mortal Kombat Edition and drag the normal versions of Kitana, Liu Kang, Kung Lao etc. out of the original timeline and into the reboot timeline to battle their evil selves, I doubt we'll ever canonically see them as their ordinary selves ever again.

That being said, we'll be kissing the original set of kombatants goodbye after MK11 and we won't see them again until the next reboot in 20 years.

It didn't set them up to be the definite, final villains. It was just showing what they were up to as a twist.

I could be wrong about them being the final villains - but trilogy characters going for good after MK11? Hell no. Reboot or not, we're seeing them again in each game.
I just don't understand the point of it... does this even fit their characters? Not really. I mean, they don't have to be villains... just neutral.
