Some people on the boards claimed that the headbanded guy might be Takeda and not Liu Kang.
What do you guys think?

You mean the headband guy who is called, by name, "Takahashi Takeda" in the first five seconds of the trailer?
Some people are speculating that the ominous red cloud coming from the temple might be Liu Kang.

I'm thinking it's the Netherrealm crossing into earth.
Didn't the "fire god" Liu statue actually look like his MK9 ending costume? His alt doesn't look like it either as the statue has shoulderpads like Liu's ending costume. Edit: Re-watched the "Next" video, the statue doesn't look like either of Takeda's costumes. Liu Kang has a shoe and a half in this.
I do not think so. Liu Kang has not even been recognised so far in the comics or these trailers. That to me means that NRS want to keep him secret in some way so people do not talk about him. The red cloud at the Shoalin temple at the end of the Story Trailer, I would say has something to do with Liu Kang. I think Liu Kang is too popular and important story character to be comepletely neglected in MKX.

Really sounded like Lui Kang to me, but I don't know for sure.

That was Sub Zero talking at the end
These are just speculations, but I would like (if his dark path is confirmed) if Liu Kang somehow gone rogue and wandered into the Lava Shrine Priests from DA and Deception and do battle. His extremely dark energy from the Netherrealm merged with his dragon fire chi make Liu powerful to annihilate all of the priests, but the draconic energy from the battle connects with the Great Dragon Egg the priests were guarding that causes it to hatch to a newly-formed Onaga who is human-sized and resembles more of a dragon without the corny human face from Deception. Onaga is impressed with Liu Kang's power and offers an alliance to help him protect Earthrealm and destroy Raiden, the cause of all Liu's miseries. Of course Liu knows Onaga is evil, but in his darkness he doesn't care. I could see a Deadly Alliance with Evil Liu Kang and Onaga to be possible especially when they're both dragon-oriented.
Or Onaga as a spirit from the egg could offer Liu power to rule Earthrealm and destroy Raiden by becoming a host to his power and Liu, in his darkness willingly agrees so Liu Kang could become the new host for the Dragon King only he could have a different name like Ryu Naga or Ao Guang, the name of a Dragon King in Chinese mythology in homage of the Chinese tales "Journey to the West" and "Fengshen Yanyi"
