I swear, most of my fellow MK fans are LUDDITES and nothing but. What part of storytelling do you all get? If a character dies he/she needs to stay that way for the story to progress and the series to evolve.

Mortal Kombat has always killed off characters and then brought them back. So... I'm not sure what your ranting about

These are fighting games not story driven Bioware games. Fighting games live and die by their characters.

If you know so much about storytelling, then tell me how you would write a Mortal Kombat plot without ever using the Netherealm.

Or Scorpion, who IN THE FIRST GAME was introduced to us as being back from the dead.

1. Gotta love someone starting a thread to whine about whiners. You're turnin' that stereotype around, champ.

2. Call me ignorant if you must, but the connection between luddites, sorry, LUDDITES and folks who want to see specific fictional characters is lost on me.

3. How does a character staying dead help the series to evolve? The way I've always looked at it, the contrivances that the series' writers develop to revive dead characters serve ultimately to make the world of the series that much bigger. If MK operated under a "dead is dead" mentality, we'd never have gotten the Netherrealm, Scorpion, the evolution of Noob Saibot, Sindel as a major plot point and possibly the omission of the Lin Kuei cyborg story.

Have the game omit any kind of reference to an afterlife and establish his undeath as a separate state of being from any kind of mythological continuation of his earthly life? It's not that hard.

I'm not aware of the reason why, but it appears you are emotionally invested in the dead characters of MK9 NOT returning.

Well, no matter what any of us may want to happen, some of them most likely will return. It's probably best you accept that now, especially given that one of the dead characters has ALREADY been revealed to be alive and relevant in MKX: Sub-Zero.

So I don't know if you're a frustrated fan or just someone's troll account, but my advice is the same to you either way: if you find yourself in a hole, the logical thing to do is to stop digging.

Wrong, sucka.

Resurrection and/or reincarnation are part of MK's lore.

If some dead characters from MK9 are back I do hope they give an explanation other than *puff* X/Y character is back, because the fans demanded it.

So...a reboot.

A reboot that either doesn't include or completely mangles the entire backstory and purpose of Quan Chi and Shinnok. And you can't do MK3 because no Sindel.

Not to mention Shang Tsung doesn't work if there's no such thing as a soul, so the franchise falls apart at the very first step.

That doesn't make sense. If you establish undead and demons as a thing, you're automatically admitting the concept of the soul and afterlife exist in your universe. And since Mortal Kombat is ENTIRELY about interdimensional travel, going to or from that afterlife is inevitable.

The only form of undeath that doesn't preclude an afterlife is the zombie, a post-mortem body reanimated withOUT its intelligence or any special powers. And that's not Scorpion. The core of the character requires intelligent will and motivation, he doesn't shamble on auto-pilot.

And even if Scorpion was a zombie, you're still bringing a dead person back to life, which apparently, the topic creator is 100% against because he has a very narrow concept of what kind of events do and do not cause character development and story progression, and the whole purpose of the argument is to point that out.

Yes, stupid choices are often easy ones. Because you don't have to think them through. Anybody can write a bad plot full of holes. Writing a story that is both entertaining and always makes sense is the hard one.

This^

Example: Jade; They would have to use her MK9 ending for an explanation, which would be legit by being possessed and brought back to life.
