"shang tsung ability" to me, made me think of his ability to morph into other players in past games. And similar to shinnok mimicking movesets in MK4. A simple button combination.
I am more interested in that ability being included if only one or 2 characters chosen at a time in MK vs DC.
I would suggest this thread be renamed "Shang tsung fatality ideas" or something along thos lines as it may throw confusions to others as it did to myself.

sounds like a neat idea. i think of it more of a cinamatic death trap or cinamatic fatality then just a move.

Are you talking about the part of the movie where he raises some of the dead warriors who's souls he's consumed? I would LOVE to see that idea for a fatality.
As for his morphing... I think that it would be nice to have him sort of "blink" in to other charcters. I can't remember, but I think it was Fulgore in Killer Instinct that did this where he would change in to another character in midcombo and use one of their moves before changing back.
I'd be cool with seeing something like that with Shang Tsung. Maybe he has a single morph special move, but using it in certain combos will make him turn in to a certain character briefly as they perform their special move, allowing him to turn back quickly and continue his combo.
Maybe he could even do this multiple times in a combo.
Personally, that sounds cooler to me than simply giving him 25 direction/button combinations so that he can turn in to all of the other characters to do moves with. That's fine in MK2 when you have 11 other characters to turn in to but now it just seems like it would be clunky and impractical.

yup that is what he's talking about where he summoned the dead warriors to fight liu.
Baraka, you're thinking of Spinal (the skeleton with the sword and shield) in Killer Instinct.
What would be great is Shang Tsung or Shinnok, morphing only when you play them. Not when it's the AI. Why ? You could only morph into characters you already beat, and did a fatality. I think it makes sense since they can't already have the soul of a fighter they're fighting against...

The only ability I'd like to see return is his morph. Yeah, it'll never happen since many come back saying that it'll have to load during the match, tra la la, and it'll take a long time to do so. But, I don't care what they said, I would love to see his morph return.
Talking about the ability that's being mentioned, it would be cool to see in some fatality of his.

That was Spinal and I always loved that. It was just weird randomness and it was great for it. I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea doing that with Shang Tsung however.

The reason that they took away his morphing ability was due to loading issues. Morphing mid combo could present these issues again as there'd be an entire palette swap to load up. And shifting back and forth multiple times in a single combo would possibly wreak havoc. It makes you wonder if the new systems would be fast enough now to make this sort of thing work.
That being said, I also agree that loads of button combinations for a morph to each character is impractical. I think there was an option on MK3 to have Shang just morph into his opponent and it was instant without the loading as the data was loaded prior to the start of the match. Perhaps if he did have a special move where he morphed like you said, they'd just do it like that. He'd just morph into the opponent mid combo or even during the match for awhile. That way you only have one combination to morph. You just wouldn't be able to morph into anyone and everyone in the match and that'd eliminate the loading issues.
Shang has shown he doesn't need to morph to be great in game. He was one of the best in MKDA.

I like all your comments and responses, thank you to all. i would like to have the morphing. but i also think it would be like Shinnok, or like Shujinko. if they could make shang tsung better with morph it would work out great. or even say if they have multiple fatalities. he can do the opponents fatalities just a idea. let me know what you think.
