The direction NRS has taken the series is paying dividends and sales have surpassed most analysts expectations, I;m sure that sales are also strong in the rest of the world.

"Perhaps the biggest surprise, though, is the game topping the mid-year list. Mortal Kombat has been around for some 25 years —and while there is still a strong fan base for the game, it wasn’t expected to be the best-selling title in the first half of the year. "
here is the top 10, MK was released in mid April so its managed to top the list in just two and half months.
"The best selling games of the first half of 2015 are as follows:
1) Mortal Kombat X (Publisher: Warner Bros.)
2) Grand Theft Auto V (Publisher: Take-Two Interactive Software)
3) Battlefield Hardline (Publisher: Electronic Arts)
4) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Publisher: Activision)
5) Minecraft (Publisher: Microsoft)
6) Batman: Arkham Knight (Publisher: Warner Bros.)
7 )Dying Light (Publisher: Warner Bros.)
8) NBA 2K15 (Publisher: Take-Two Interactive Software)
9) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Publisher: CD Projekt Red)
10)Super Smash Bros. (Publisher: Nintendo)"

I'd expect NRS to keep on supporting the game with Paid/Free DLC for some time.

I think this alone, aside from the stream comment, solidifies that we're gonna get more DLC.
Mortal Kombat is back and bigger than ever, baby!

Don't want to sound negative but the only reason MK got #1 is because Black Ops 3 and Fallout 4 haven't come out yet. MK had no real competition on that list besides The Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight. I'm glad MKX is doing so well though.

fuck yeah they should have killed MK when they had the chance. Now it will live forever!!! Muahahahahaha. Maybe all these people making these SF vs MK threads will finally go on somewhere. I guarantee that Street Fighter wouldn't have outsold Batman or Witcher 3. SF 5 will be a lackey to whatever other big title comes out around the same time SF does. With the limited marketing they did to those outside the hardcore fan base, I'm pleasantly surprised by the total sales. WB had to have cashed in big time with MKX, which means a bigger budget next time and all but guarantees additional dlc, maybe a good amount tooI think this alone, aside from the stream comment, solidifies that we're gonna get more DLC.

I know your not trying to sound negative, but that was a pretty dumb statement. MK had no real competition, besides the two other major realeases that MK competed with? I get what your saying, it wasn't against GTA or CoD, but they went up against huge titles and good 'ol MKX came out on topDon't want to sound negative but the only reason MK got #1 is because Black Ops 3 and Fallout 4 haven't come out yet. According to VGChartz, MKX has sold 2.26 million units so far, which is half of what MK9 sold I believe. Not sure how much higher this number can go.

According to this chart MKX PC sold 0.01 million units. IMO this is ridiculous. I think the real number is much higher. More like 0.3 million (300K) copies, if the in-game statistics are correct. My guess is - this chart counts only the physical copies and not the digital downloads.

It's only data for two and half months, it can go much higher. MK9 did not sell this much in two and half months.

VGChartz data is not accurate the game has easily sold more on the PS4 world wide.

That is a rather silly argument. CoD is gonna do 20 million in sales, no shit it isn't gonna compete with that. That in no way means this is any less of an accomplishment.
It managed to best Arkham and Witcher, 2 titles that were massively hyped. And the majority of game sales are front loaded, so it's also shown to have decent legs which is what's more important.

I'm so glad that Mortal Kombat is such a tremendous seller. It has truly climbed its way out of the proverbial pit right back up to the top. It had never been that hugely popular...it had a very devoted fan base, but this shows that Mortal Kombat fandom has blown up far beyond the core fanbase (which can be both good and bad).
As someone who has been playing MK for over 20 years, since it first appeared in arcades, I never thought I'd actually still be playing MK for this long. I never even imagined it would be a franchise that would last. And even after the atrocious showing of the 3d era games, it's emerging as one of the most successful games of the year. I'm really happy about that.
I'm shocked that Batman isn't higher on the list (though it did just recently release).

I apologize if I came off more aggressive than I intended. I do agree that the majority of heavy hitters release this fall. I think it shows how well NRS is connecting with the more casual fan and that they found a sweet spot of a release window. I think it'd be a much worse seller if it was a fall release

this. I know a lot of my friends don't have ps4/xbone and they are dying to get mkx in their hands. There's also the strange few who are waiting on a komplete edition before they buy. I just really hope this means we get a 2nd pack, 4 Kharacters, + klassic stages . It's A good time to be an mk fanaticKeep in mind it hasn't even launched for last gen yet either

I'm more surprised it outsold Arkham Knight. That was probably the one I was betting on being the biggest seller since it's such a critically acclaimed franchise and everyone seems to have reignited their love of Batman these days.
The game was shit compared to the other 3 but still, expected it to blow the competition away.

Anyone else surprised Smash in at the top 10?
And yes looking at CoD, Batman etc. Mortal Kombat X sitting on top of them like Shao Kahn looks weird.
Congrats to NRS.

Fantastic to see really afterall it seems like an eternity away from the horrible 2009 when there was so much uncertainty. Those were truely dark days. Very welcome to see it beat Battlefield: Hardline. Ed Boon said MKX was the biggest launch in Mortal Kombat history. Seems like all the hard work is paying off. Mortal Kombat has never been as big as it is now.

VGChartz undertrack most of the time and they do not include digital sales either. That number can go much higher since MKX over the ten week opening period beat MK9 over its launch.According to VGChartz, MKX has sold 2.26 million units so far, which is half of what MK9 sold I believe. Do we have concrete info on how much the MK series has sold overall? It's hard to find. Wikipedia says 26 million, but I think that is BS because their citation for it links to fuckin' Ubisoft.
The most I've found is like...a Fortune Magazine article that says "over 35 million". That would (hilariously enough) put it neck and neck with its old buddy Street Fighter. But I dunno.
