Roster System Preference
Roster System Preference
Do you guys think that all the characters should be playable from the start?
I prefer the system like Tekken, which only offer half of the roster to be playable from the start, then we have to beat the story mode with one character to unclock a characters that share a deep strotyline with the character that we used in the story mode or maybe in a choose your destiny mode, for example in Tekken :
When we beat the story mode with King, then we will unlock Armor king,
When we beat the story mode with Hwoarang, then we will unlock Baek,
When we beat the story mode with Forest Law, then we will unlock Marshal Law, Etc
I think it may works also in Mortal Kombat X, for example :
We may unlock Johhny Cage by beating the story mode with Cassie Cage (If Johnny Cage is playable in MK X)
We may unlock Cyber Subzero or Frost by beating the story mode or choose your destiny mode with Sub Zero
We may unlcok Bo Rai Cho if we beat the game in story mode or choose your destiny mode with Liu Kang or Kunglao (If either one of them is playable in MK X)
We may unlock Fujin by beating the game in story mode or choose your destiny mode with Raiden
We may unlock Kenshi by beating the game in story mode or choose your destiny mode with Ermac, Etc
Why i would prefer this kind of system, because it would make the game more challenge and people tends to beat the game with every single characters before unlocking the specific character
Please share your thoughts guys...

idk, sometimes i like to play the Ladder mode first, other times i like to play story mode first. but as long as majority of characters are unlocked from the start then im cool. make the unlockables the unexpected characters but definitely have them able to unlock in story mode

in MK Deception you had this. But i prefer to have most of them playable at the start. Maybe like in MK2011 with two secret characters.
If we've got most of them playable from the start, then we will not feel that the game is challenging
And I also doubt that most of the people who buy the game will play every single character so often, they just play whoever they like...
If we have so many unlockable characters to unlock before the characters become playable, then they will forced to master every characters they play, if they are not mastering them, at least they will feel the characters trait more depth...

Unlockable make things exciting. A big fat no to everyone being playable from the start.
It wouldn't hurt to see characters be locked from the start. My only thing is that I don't want to have to complete the entire story mode to get them. I'd rather there be a different way to unlock them.
As mentioned previous times whenever this topic comes up, I've always suggested that we go back using the coin system. But in this situation, you don't earn coins by simply winning the matches, there should be like challenges you need to complete during the match in order to obtain them.
For example, you must do five uppercuts to obtain 200 ruby coins.

I'd love to see unlockable characters return. Unlocking a character feels very rewarding to me. And I know people call it false replay value but I enjoy it. And if we do have to unlock them, I'd only want to unlock 6-8. Any more than that and its going overboard.
I have no problem buying characters with currency, but not several different types of currency. I remember scrambling to get Onyx coins back in DA and I hated it. It just makes buying characters and stuff in general way too complicated.
They should stick with the current system they have, and I agree they need more ways to unlock characters. But no multiple coins, fuck that shit.

For the life of me, I can't remember which user on here, but when MK9 was rolling around, someone had mentioned the idea of starting off with the MK1 roster then unlocking MK2, and finally MK3 characters. Really liked that idea.
Obviously that wouldn't exactly work in this game. Unless you start off with characters right after MK9 events, then as you progress through the story, unlock the +10 years characters, the +15 years ect. ect.
I like the challenge and I'm fully willing devote gameplay to every character in this game, anyways. Especially if there will be another Nekropolis kind of deal.

I disagree. I liked the various forms of currency. To me it further added to the excitement of unlocking stuff, when I finally got enough of the rarer coins to unlock something requiring a lot of them.
To get back on topic, no, the characters shouldn't all be available right from the start. If that bothers some players, just put in some cheat code to unlock everything like in F-Zero X. That way we all win. I get them the hard way, others can unlock them right away.

Yeah I could roll with that. I suspect, considering the challenges in IGAU, something similar may be in the offing.
I'll be happy with any type of unlocking. It's one of my more treasured memories of older fighting games, I love the idea of unlockable characters and arenas, the whole shebang. As long as there's a quick unlock code, it shouldn't be a problem in competitive tournaments either.
Don't have a lot of hope for it to happen though, DLC seems to be the new unlockables

I'd like for some of the characters to be kept secret and unlockable, like Cyber Sub-Zero was.

I'd also like if there were 2 or 3 characters that straight up aren't revealed at all. They're just in there and can be unlocked and played.

You liked slaving away for multiple coin types to unlock booby prizes like empty koffins or the devs looking like idiots? To each their own, I guess.

Part of the fun. Opening a coffin and wondering what I'll get. The utter joy of discovering I unlocked a character I didn't have, or an alt, or an arena.
There is some mistery on not revealed characters being secret until the game releases and all that...
But honestly, with how much I want specific characters in the game, I would jump over the first leak of story mode script like happened last time (when Cyber Sub-Zero story mode texts were revealed) or audio reveals which was something that happened too last time, to see if the ones I want in the game are part of the "secret and not revealed" characters, just to relax knowing if they're or not in the game.
At the very least if I feel like I don't want story spoilers, I will at least check any thread stating who is in based on the possible leaks.

Want to make me a sig? Something simple with Reptile elbowing in mk9 would be great :)

I prefer all fighters being available from the start. I dont mind if a couple are locked though like in mk9 . I however do not like at all how they did it in mkda and mkd having half locked.

Hell yeah! I love unlockables. Having to put some effort in order to play with my favorite characters is somehow fulfilling. Am I weird? :P

Not in the least. I was way surprised that Armageddon only had the 4 and MK9 had 2.

That's when checking online for a list of what's in them comes in. Defeats the purpose? Maybe, but as you said, to each of their own.

Speak for yourself, not for me- thank you.
It's not about the internet being in existence- I used the internet just as much ten years ago during the Deception era and still loved the idea of unlocking characters. It's not about knowing who's in- but I like to actually WORK for the characters instead of having them all given to me.
These games lack determination and challenge these days.
