Not counting guests- how many characters would you want for MKX? How many do you think there will be?

I'm hoping for a solid 30. A good mixture of MK9 alums, MK4-MKD vets, and some fresh newbies. Maybe 5 characters for DLC, which would up the number to a solid 35.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind 40 characters, but that might be edging too close to Armageddon territory LOL.

24-30 on the main roster is a good number for me.

I'd like more DLC this time. 4 was great. But you know, we're MK nuts, we have our "must haves," and we always want more. So I'd like at least 6 but preferably 8 characters for DLC. Wishful thinking, right?

Maybe not, MK9 was very restricted when it came to its character selection, it was all about the characters from the first three games. So it would make sense they wouldn't go too wild with DLC characters not affiliated with those games. With MKX however it seems like the door is open and anything can happen. I don't see why there can't be 6-8 DLC characters for this game. I doubt they're as restricted to a certain pool of characters like they were back in MK9.

To me, 30 is the magic number. It's a reasonable number to balance, and it provides enough diversity so everyone can find a character that's their own.

IMO, matchup knowledge starts to get ridiculous after the 30 mark. Anything more than 35 is going to hurt the competitive element.

A little bit more than what 2011 had.

I'm honestly really ocd about things like this and would prefer to have 32 playable characters. I mean it would make sense for a tournament fighting game to have an even tournament number like that. Even though there most likely won't be a tournament in the story.

Very happy to see everyone is so far wanting at least 30. I'm pretty sure we'll get that.

34 would be awesome. MK 9 had 31, but some were doubles. So, assuming you eliminate those doubles, along with Kratos' spot, then you have room for newbies and the like.

Honestly?

20

Quality > Quantity. I would welcome as much as 30 + DLC but anymore would risk lack of polish, depth and balance.

Agreed. 24 plus 6 dlc worked well for injustice.

24 plus 6 DLC would be perfect, though if I'm greedy, I'd say 30 with 5 DLC. grin

30 seems like a reasonable number.

Of course, my view on this will differ depending on the amount of new characters there are in this game.

In a perfect world... I'd want MK Armageddon's roster + Skarlet and new people.

I've always been a fan of "Complete" rosters in fighting games. Trilogy, Armageddon, Tekken Tag, Street Fighter Alpha 3. These are a few of my favorite rosters.

I'm not really a competitive or highly nitpicky player when it comes to a balanced and fine-tuned roster. I've always been more into the story w/ these games. And I like to see what every character is up to. To this day I tell people Konquest mode was one of my favorite parts of both Deception and Armageddon and they go, "Whaaaat!? You're fulla crap!" lol...

BUT... I know that's not gonna happen. So I'd just hope for as many as possible.

I'd also like zero guest characters ideally. I hate guest characters. But Boon and Co. seem to be fans of mixing MK and other franchises, after the last three games. So... I'm already bracing my expectations for a couple.

8 playable
10 unlockable
5 or so DLC
Boss(es) unselectable

So 25-30ish in the end would be fine.

More is not always better.

I want a deep fighting engine with a wide variety in character fighting styles and am willing to accept a smaller roster if that is what they are willing to give us. About 37 characters (complete roster after DLC etc. would be great)

24 would be a good starting amount IMO, and around 8 DLC characters. Wouldn't mind seeing a guest character, although it's really not needed. 24 at launch just seems like the perfect number to me, I liked how they did it with Injustice.

Anywhere between 24-28 characters is the magic number, sans DLC. I don't care how little or how much DLC we get; it's the main roster I give precedence to.

These 36, 40 numbers are simply too much for one game. This isn't MKVII.

I'd say 1 or 2 more than the last game so 33-35 in total would feel natural.
