Don't forget about his new move, Acid Puddle

Soooo... it's safe to assume Kung Lao and Reptile will have nothing to do with each other in the story based on his quarrel reaction?

I mean so far, everyone's interactions have showed us that they have some interaction between each other, Kitana and Quan Chi, D'Vorah and Kano even.

This interaction really... shows that neither character has anything between each other.

I'm hoping that the grab with the tongue is a command grab. Also, it looks like he has a anti-air command grab as it works at the end of a combos seen in the reveal trailer.

Variation A) could be have command throws.
Variation B) could use Reptiles tongue for special moves.
Variation C) Reptile could have acid on his hands that deal slightly more damage than normal or that slowly drains a players health a few seconds after the hit.

Also, Reptile does have a few more noticeable changes that people either don't see or aren't giving him credit for. He looks like he plays a lot like his MK 9 variation with a few more tricks which is great because I loved the way he played in MK9.

Which is great, we've only seen one other instance of that, the Ferra/Torr-Raiden one. I actually want to see more of these, just to hear what people have to say to one another.


Seems like it's an EX version of his acid spit.

Alright so I have a bunch of thoughts so let's get to it:

-Apparently being a slave to Quan-Chi and getting your neck snapped hasn't killed Kung Lao's dry sense of humor. Good.

-Finally Reptile has a voice. Not quite what I would have liked (I wanted something like a mix of a hiss/whisper) but he's not going "I will tear your flessssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh" so it's still great.

-I really like the new outfit. It makes him look primal and fierce without turning him into IguanaMan. His new mask being separated so he can spit acid without having to take it off is a great idea.

-Even his scales and face look better than before. Also I think the skull from his MK: DA alternate outfit is on there somewhere. Massive improvement from his primary and even his alternate outfit in 9.

-The Elbow Dash is back and the slide is back awwwwwww yeah. I'm not feeling the new forceball though seems like it takes forever to send out, I hope that was just the slow version or something because if it's that slow It doesn't seem very viable to do. The new invisibility animation looks sick.

-I'm seeing a lot of familiar moveset wise from MK9 and not just the X-ray (which looks better and includes something similar to that weird claw move he did in DA). But this isn't a criticism considering I loved his moveset in 9. For instance his low dropkick has a follow-up flip, the little leap he does to avoid Kung Lao's ground hat? That's his 1+2 ender from 9 and I am so glad they turned that into an actual move because it was awesome.

-Dat. Fucking. Throw. And apparently his tongue is strong as fuck to do that

-Better EX Acid Spit. I like it.

-Force ball gripe aside Reptile even has some nice new MKgibberish during the first combo "NAGA SOOPAH!" although how he says that while spitting a heap of acid out is beyond me. The second combo looks badass.

-During the fatality teaser I was gonna say "oh it's just D'vorah's fatality" BUT I noticed Lao's flesh bubbles and melts whereas her bugs quickly eat away at the face. That's pretty neat if you ask me. His sprint to finish the job was a nice touch as well.


All in all WOO FUCK YEAH REPTILE!!!




Oh and I know I shouldn't bring up past arguments but this caught my attention:

"You really need to stop with the hostile behavior. How old are you? Act like an adult and stop getting nasty over a difference of opinion. You worry me"

You just compared someone to Fred Phelps a couple pages ago..and you want to lecture someone about hostile behavior and being nasty? Come on.

Yeah that's what im thinking, it sounded like both of their dialogues are kind of their defaults for people they have no unique interactions with.

Thank God. I was beginning to think that everyone in the MKX universe knew everyone...which would be silly.

It also looks like, if the comic is anything to go by, he's just a drone for Kotal Kahn, so he's still not an individual. Just a lackey. Again. Unfortunately.

It's possible he won't have any important interaction with anyone at all.

It was a pretty cool trailer for a classic character.

Pros:
- Reptile finally talks!
- The intro is freaking hilarious!
- His updated universal moveset looks nice. That tongue throw is impressive, to say the least.
- His X-ray and fatality are pretty cool for a character that I'm essentially neutral/meh about.

Cons:
- His primary costume isn't all that impressive.
- We should've been shown his variations, otherwise what's the point of a dedicated character trailer?

Oh....em....gee....it's REPTILE!

Alright, so -

~ I really dig the mandible mask that moves with his mouth when he speaks...yah...he SPEAKS! *.*

~ "I now have a quarrel with you."....bahaha.

~ I like the look. Mask is much better, but overall it still doesn't do it for me 100%. Take this, and take a hint of inspiration from MKSM, and BAM. They're just moving further and further away from the lighter, more vibrant hue of green (MK2/MK2 mirror, UMK3, MKSM) that I always liked for Reptile. It might grow on me, but if not, that's the beauty of alts and DLC skins.
...also it beats the hell outta MK9!

~ Tongue moves? Since there is no tail, this works equally well. Sweet stuff!

~ Alright, now that Acid Puddle...I don't see that as a mainstay move. That's got to be part of an acid attacks variation. Hopefully it will include that Acid Wall he used in MK9's story mode vs Stryker. But this puddle is still something I'll need to try for myself before I know for sure.

~ Force Balls. So far, I think I liked the look of the MK9 Force Balls more than these ones. It's still a little early to tell, so I don't know yet. Also not a big fan of the execution. I liked the traditional.

~ LOVE the Invisibility effects this go around!

~ I'm in between on this X-ray. Don't love it, don't hate it...but it's alright.

~ The fatality. I liked the direction it was going. Wish I could have seen the whole thing, but just as well. No complaints for that yet. Miles ahead of that dreadful "Acid Yak" from MK9. Still think he needs a Face Chew style fatality. It's been a while...

Overall I'm super ecstatic that muh boii made the cut. I can rest easy for the remainder of the reveals. Hope the majority of the other fans get their favorites as well, 'cuz it's a nice feeling.

Now...next two heavy hitters of mine...

Wow... Seeing some people on here that I haven't seen in a while! Always good.

I'm still kind of amazed at how many special moves Reptile appeared to have. I know some are variation specific, but it still felt like s ton. Really psyched to see what else he has.

I still like Kano's commando style the most from what I've seen (just watched his variation video again and commando looks freakin fun as hell), but Reptile still looks like he'll be a blast as well..

I adored Reptile years ago. Up until MK:DA, he was my favourite character, but I suppose I just got sick of seeing him stay as a lackey to so many characters and eventually lost interest in him (I'm one of those fans who likes a character based on the story).

I'm delighted for Reptile fans that he's included, but I'm not overjoyed to see him. Tbh I'd have rather seen him killed off in the comics to allow newer, fresher characters with more potential step up to the plate. He's been around for so long and yet has never amounted to or achieved anything in all the time we've gotten to know him, which to me is severely off putting. Even Rain, who was considered a joke character and hated by the community for years, done more within the space of the only 3 games he appeared in than Reptile has in 20 odd years.

I suppose I should try find *some* things to praise.

I like the fact he's now using the tongue in his attacks, the fact he's speaking, and I like the flip kick he has in his moveset now. His costume is also an improvement on both of his costumes from MK9.

Overall, I found this reveal to be very "meh". I'm happy for Reptile fans but I'm disappointed he's taking up a character slot.

It's not necessarily a bad thing - a character can be a subordinate while having their own desires, motivations, and affect what is happening in the storyline in some way (everything Reptile does, he does for the sake of his dead realm).

But I agree that it would be nice for him to have some important interaction with someone this time - maybe even an interesting new rivalry (or alliance; I can see one with D'Vorah).

If they keep the total character numbers in the low-20s, hopefully that will give each one enough room for significant development during story mode.

Are you doing the best you can?

Reptile's motivations can do a lot if he relegates himself to goon status, but they never factor in to the story. If someone went through Story Mode without looking at Reptile's bio or ending, he'd just be "generic grunt #4"

I don't mind Reptile being a grunt, or I wouldn't if they still let him have any character outside of what exposition tells us. He has no personality, no individuality, no presence, which sucks when he's your favorite character.

I've grown used to the idea that Reptile will always be criminally underutilized, but at least he looks like he'll be a lot of fun.

Aside from the whole reveal lacking the punch that some of the others have, I'm happy.

He looks great. They managed to make his bird head work, which is something I once thought impossible.

His moveset is familiar, which is NOT a bad thing. You don't see people bitching about Ryu having the same moveset every Street Fighter iteration.

His x-ray is more or less a more brutal version of his MK9 version. Which segues nicely into my next point...

Reptile feels more brutal. Everything he throws has weight behind it. Very aggresive, very visceral. Me likey.

I like his voice...nice hearing from you again old friend.

Curious to see what his variations are. The fact that they weren't highlighted, attributed to the lackluster feel of this video.


Nice fatality. Face melt, followed up by an animalistic mauling at the end. Good stuff.

Well said. Reptile at this point certainly feels like a complete waste. Boring outfit, less than stellar game play, and possible a lackey once again. I'd definitely boot him for a 3D era character.

This game is nothing but the same old, same old. Same popular faces, same stale stories, only with the added illusion of new characters, most of whom will probably be dumped after this game.

I'm digging all the characters and gameplay I've seen thus far. No part of it seems "samey" to me.

Saying "same popular faces" is a bit odd. If they are popular, it'd be kinda silly to just drop them. It's gotta be a fine balance.

I take it this all stems from the lack of MK4-MK:D characters...to which I feel is a poor reason to completely condemn a game, its roster, and its gameplay. But hey...
