They barely missed the cut on being in anything other than the first draft of the script.

They didn't nearly make it. They were eliminated a while ago.

I had heard about Skarlet but not the others.

Reiko & Skarlet are the only two I want to see return out of that list. Unless they really changed Kira's story.

What's wrong with Kira's story? If anything needs to be changed it's her moveset, and seeing how she would've been a Li Mei/Bo like cameo, that wouldn't be a problem. I think she had a pretty interesting story. Jarek, on the other hand had Kano's story, still, i would've liked Jarek and Kai being cameos for the sake of MK4 representation.

Have you guys read Brian's twitter feed and responses? Some interesting stuff there.

He talks about the Ermac/Ermac mirror match being intentional where Ermac says "I have found my own path" with no voice effect and him saying i, me and it being intentional.

Yeah, Brian is one of the most interesting person on Twitter when it comes to MKX. He actually responds to people and share a lot of information.

Kira design and story weren't the problem. It was her moveset. Had they given her a really good moveset instead of Sonya/Kano hand-me-downs, i think she would have been better received in the MK universe.

I wonder if they were going to be in as sort "filling in" the 25 year gap in the game, so it wasn't all about Shinnok and his amazingly well guarded amulet, but were thrown in the comic because WB said they needed to do a comic.

Its somewhat annoying because: I kinda like Kira and Jarek is there... I love Skarlet, Kai had potential in terms of being some sort of Caperoia guy and Reiko for some reason everyone is loving because he was wearing Shao Kahn stuff.

I guess I wanted MOAR story mode. Like MK9

Kai Is the ONLY MK4 character not to appear in anything MKX related. Quan Chi & Shinnok made the initial roster, Tanya is DLC, Jarek and Reiko appear in the comics, Fujin appeared in BOTH story mode and the comics and may very well be DLC- but Kai? Not a peep heard from him.

Unless he's appeared in the comic because I kinda stopped following it once the game was released.

Chard said that Kai was originally in Bo Rai Cho's place in the story mode. I guess they decided BRC was more popular/recognizable.

Maybe Kai will have his chance to shine in the next game. While I don't particularly see him as the main hero since we have four that will most likely be the main protagonist, maybe he can join them on the sidelines.

It's kind of a shame that Skarlet didn't get another appearance in-game as a playable character, since I really don't think it's cool to make a great character then scrap them immediately for the next game. That's the problem with majority of the 3D characters. They're made for one game and then majority of them do not get another chance.

It's time for Netherrealm Studios to stop doing that to their characters. Sure, it's their stuff, they can basically do whatever they want and I have no problem. But it does tend to get extremely annoying to like a character and then realize they're not coming back.

This entirely. I feel like if the comic gets a second year, and they explore elements of the actual war with Shinnok, maybe then characters like Kai would show up more regularly. Hopefully he gets a cameo (or more) in a future installment but I agree, it's beginning to become extremely annoying the way they handle their characters outside of the mid-90's.

This franchise has a vast array of characters, character types and deep mythology that, for whatever reason, they keep choosing to ignore and its very frustrating. Even if Kira / Jarek had stayed in and just appeared alongside Kano at the Special Forces run Refugee Camp, that would've been incredibly exciting as opposed to them just being nowhere to be found.

I have hope the next roster would be more diverse when it comes to characters we haven't seen in a while but I doubt it- I hope that every game and it never comes true. But I think a few of the 3D characters who sorta got shafted this game should definitely return next game as well as the MK9 characters that sat out this round (Cyrax, Smoke, Noob, ect) along with the return of the MKX newbies.

Well I think it mainly comes from NRS feeling as if those characters represent a "dark" time for the series, aka the Midway days of the mid to late 00s- back when they were being pressured and rushed to make games every so often and had very little time to truly let their creative juices flow. It doesn't help that Mortal Kombat (2011) was all about going back to the basics and boasted a 100% classic roster that appealed to many people who stopped closely following the series once the 2000s came- and it was a huge hit.

Maybe NRS feels like its best to leave those characters in the past and occasionally cherry pick their favorites (Kenshi, Quan Chi) and maybe toss in one or two for the fans per game (Tanya, possibly Fujin)- but largely ignore that period as a whole. I don't know, but it's pretty sucky. Especially when there's no need for such a division.

It shouldn't have to be "3D characters over there and everyone else over here!". They should be intermixed together. We should have a roster comprised of Classic characters, 3D era characters, AND New characters. That's all I wanted with MKX.
