If I'm reading the IGN article correctly, they say story mode will now Feature Quick Time Events thrown in. I've hated QTEs ever since Resident Evil 6. NRS used them in Injustice, but I really don't think they added anything to the gameplay. They completely take away from the cut scenes imo. Besides, Mortal Kombat is first and foremost a fighting game, not an action/ adventure where QTEs are more suitable.
Is anyone else irked by this prospect, or excited for that matter?

I like them because they add to the story a bit. That is just me though.

I like them when used well. I'm playing a videogame, not watching a movie.
Plus, it will be fun to see the Failed attempts. Hehehe

I dislike them because of the exact same things you mentioned !
I don't mind them, there are some great games with QTE.
It also offers a really important way to make multiple characters fight in a chapter instead of all the fights in the same chapter featuring the same guy fighting 4 or 5 random dudes like in MK9 which ended with characters not developed after their chapters and lots of punching bags henchmen... so welcome QTEs!!

Used in a appropriate way they can be useful. I remember playing God of War and thought of how useful they were to do certain things. They get a bad rep from games that basically use them all over the place, like to simply open doors or things like that. The telltale games are great and they are pretty much nothing but QTEs. Pretty much, they keep your brain in an active state during animations. And to the people who say "but MK is a fighting game," the QTEs could be used to break up gameplay so its not an endless onslaught of match after match.

I absolutely love QTE's! As long as they are implemented right and are not too many.
They add to the cinematic experience and keep you involved, instead of just watching.
The way they described the use of QTE's in MKX sound perfect for me :)

I actually don't follow how QTE's have anything to do with now being able to play different characters in a chapter. 1 character per chapter in MK9 wasn't because of the absence of QTE's, but just their design.
I like it that you are now playing in chapters divided story-wise instead of character-wise.
And for the QTE's in the game. If it doesn't have affect on the story or anything, why even bother doing them. For a slightly different cutscene?
If they would change the way who we would fight and how the story would progress, gladly. It would give people the incentive to replay the story a few times. But the changes have to be wortwhile.
Not sure I approve of quick time events in MK but I regard that NRS have tried to add something new in every recent release. Could interacting have presentable alterations that would fit MKX in a different way, like the way they are used? There may have been other titles but Shenmue was the one known for making QTE popular, to a degree.

I actually hate QTE in every game...except this!!!
These ones look freaking awesome and I may have to be that guy that goes back and does both winning and losing them just to see. I just can not express enough how good I think they look. I kan't wait!

I phrased it wrongly, I meant that more characters would be able to have protagonism while keeping the MK9 model of the VS fights of a chapter being fought by the chapter protagonist.

UNLIKE Resident Evil, where QTE's replaced good old fashioned survival horror gameplay, all the QTE's in MKX are replacing is cutscenes where you have to sit there not participating in gameplay and just watching like this is a damn movie...
But it's not a movie, it's a game. In MKX quick time events will ADD to gameplay, rather than replacing gameplay. Without the QTE's being put in where they are, we'd just be sitting on our asses watching cutscenes. Fuck that. I like the addition of QTE's because it gets us more involved in the story mode, instead of passively watching cut scenes.

They're pretty horrible in many games and fighting games are no exception.
However, the QTEs in MKX are not actually part of the game's engine, unlike Injustice. They're only in story mode cutscenes, so it doesn't really hurt the meat of the game in any way.

I'm a big fan of QTE's. They add re-playability should you mess up. MKX's look great. I hope the buttons switch up or the qte time is sped up depending on the difficulty you are playing on to make it more interesting and challenging.

I actually like the way they've done them in MKX for the various outcomes. My only real concern is the distraction of having to push the buttons. Yeah, you can fail and just get beat up throughout the cut scenes, but eventually I'm going to want to see a different scenario.
It seems I might be in the minority, but I enjoy sitting back and watching cut scenes play out before/after a match with no involvement. "Fighting game, not movie" guys, I get it. Personally though, they could make a scene 6 hours long with no fights and I'd watch it in it's entirety with no complaints.
But that's just me.
