Her birth race is Edenian, she's not an Outworlder by blood.

Because Edenia is not only a country. It is an entire planet/realm with thousands of still alive inhabitants. Though they were probably billions in the beginning before Shao Kahn conquered them. They all are a massive power source and could form a formidable army. If one royalty could unite them, his/her position would be of great importance. That is why both Kitana and Rain attempt to obtain the throne of Edenia.

And I don't think she was only a baby when Shao Kahn conquered her realm. She appears as a young girl in the MK3 picture next to her mother watching the war.
Though I agree that a few years of being Princess is not much considering Edenian living time.

I like her being a princess .. it just suits her much better then this Dark Empress shit they're digging for her this timeline around .... there is a certain amount of rebelliousness within that rank, more than being a Queen or an Empress ... you gotta find your way to the top, you gotta fight to reclaim the throne ... that is real Kitana, someone responsible, brave, active , intelligent ... this new one is a pale
reminder of what she could've become ... would really love to see her back to her Edenian heroic roots ... figting for good thing, Daenerys Targeryen kind of hero ... :)in Mk11 hopefully ....

Daenerys Targaryen will turn evil when the people will reject her mate. Pretty sure that's where the author is heading. "You are the dragon!"

who knows ... really. don't wanna whine like some spoiled little fanboy, but I have to notice they're putting sooooo much effort into making every female billion times more interesting than Kitana, like there is someone within NRS who really hates her, despite the fact there is so much potential in her character ... cmmon, they' ve made Mileena, D ' Vorah and even Cassie many times more appealing in every aspect ... gameplay wise, storyline, personality ... just don't understand why are they keeping her in franchise at all ... same could be asked about Liu Kang, Kung Lao even Raiden ... like they dunno what to do with these characters at all ....sorry if I'm boring , just wanted to share my disappointment with you guys ... I care about my classic heroes, and I'm so sad witnessing they 're fading away in front of us ... :(

Sonya and Cassie suck as characters.
Mileena got owned in this game and /i doubt she'll be coming back earlier than 2023. (which is a good thing for the generation change and the 3d era characters)
Dvorah had a nice story, but Dark Empress Kitana really stole the spotlight for me.

Like in Kitana's fight intros with Cassie and Erron Black. Cassie says "princess" and Errron says "the fallen Princess" which makes sense because she was the fallen princess of Outworld.

Yeah. I too would like her to go back to being "princess" Kitana. I think the whole netherealm ruler was what Liu Kang needed to make him interesting for he has been kind of stale lately. Hearing Kitana's intros made me excited into thinking they're finally turning her into a more serious character who wants to see things done. Someone who was resurrected and is now on a quest to avenge her fallen friends not to mention restoring her realm by destroying everything Kahn built. Making her co-ruler of Netherealm destroyed any awesome build up to her warrior princess-esque character. Now she's sharing the same fate her mother and friend have had over the series; a support character that'll never see potential.

Yup! Thats exactly was I was thinking, I didnt have no problem with Liu being the ruler of the Netherrealm since it was rumored he would turn evil ever since the incident between him and Raiden in MK 9. But Kitana as evil now...smh

Yeah. I'm worried that they're just gonna show her next to Liu Kang while he's literally directing the show. She's going to be the Jade to Liu Kang's Kitana, the Sindel to his Shao Kahn's.
