Liu Kang wouldn't be all that shocking, and I still have a bit of an itch to know a couple more characters that will be in the initial roster. I wonder if Liu Kang will be one of the unlockables half-way through story mode (note: Cyber-Sub). Blade4693 had mentioned the possibility of Shang and Liu being the other half of the Kombat Pack in another thread as well. Since they're the only two from the MK1 cast who have yet to be seen or specifically noted. I wouldn't mind if that was the case either. Still love me some Shang, and Liu has always had fantastic gameplay.

These sound pretty cool. Liu Kang was surprisingly one of my best characters in MK9. Pop-up combos galore! Also, Scourge variation sounds like it could be the equivalent of Reptile's Noxious.

At this point nothing will shock me. Look at Quan Chi he summons a demon so anything is possible now.

Even having Evil Undead Liu is already a pretty drastic character change by itself. But this seems to imply that drastic character changes don't stop there. It's too much for one game.

And fuck, if you went from revenant to Fire God, you'd think that your variations would have a few more visual differences than just a fucking extra beltbuckle or glowing hands.

Personally I hope the timeline of the variations goes Scourge, Fiery and then Champion.

Let him be evil at the start, then get corrupted by the fire god powers and then in the end become earthrealms champion once again.

Yeah they are the 2 I was assuming would be it due to the lack of them on the initial roster at this point, but it seems less and less likely now, with Shinnok having Tsung moves and all these "leaks" that seem to imply Kang is already in.

It seemed like the most obvious choices to me, they are definitely classic characters, they have somewhat of a history in a way, and are the only 2 MK1 characters not confirmed for this game at this point lol

That's what the majority of threads are going to be from now on. NRS is only going to show but so much more, and once they've maxed out their marketing plan, the communities will take it upon themselves to find and post leaks of what's left to be known. True or not.

It's inevitable. Just have some fun with it, especially if you're into knowing more than what NRS intends to reveal.

Washing Machine Screw-Up variation - Liu's red pants come out of the washer green, gets confused for Hornbuckle.

I fucking welcome Liu toward a neutral evil character. IT almost reminds me of Dark Raiden in Deception and Armageddon who dealt with devils to protect Earthrealm, but would plan to backstab the bad guys in the backs near the end. If Liu does go down that path, I'm very doubtful and sad that he'll be saved in the end. I can only think two outcomes: death or being brought back and feeling guilty and shitty about everything and goes to a bar, drinking himself to death. If his presentation is done right emotionally in relation to his former allies (for Kitana it's probably no surprise) at the revelation that he sided with the Netherrealm, Dark Liu Kang may become of the BEST MK villains of all time.


I honestly think Liu Kang wouldn't be thrilled at making a deal with Quan Chi because he knows that fucker helped Shao Kahn invade his realm and took most of his friends' souls, but what would be a good twist if he dealt with Shinnok (while being trapped as a soul in the Netherrealm) before Quan Chi resurrects him as a Revenant and planned with Shinnok to release him from his Amulet and both eviscerate Quan Chi. This is a great opportunity for Shinnok to shine as a master manipulator.


It seems out of all the Revenants of the Netherrealm, it seems in Liu's bio he's the only one imbedded with evil dark magic as in one of his variations. If Quan Chi wanted to successfully in the Netherrealm War, why didn't he give ALL of his revenants this powerful dark magic? Quan Chi would probably be too busy hunting for the amulet so he'd probably have somebody else infatuate Liu with dark magic. What better way to introduce a cameo that to have TANYA of all people to be the one feeding Liu his dark magic that fuels his rage in his revenge quest against Raiden? Rather than that crappy MK4 ending with "Hey Liu it's a trap I'm evil" scenario, I could picture Liu and Tanya actually having some interesting dialogue given that she is an Edenian like Kitana also they both have fire powers so the dark attraction does kind of make sense. Tanya as dark as see is on the outside might take a flirtatious and relaxed mood when she's around Liu like he and Tanya are both dating couples just having a few laughs. If Tanya comes out as DLC, I want to hear her dialogue surrounding her involvement with Liu's magic and her partnership with him. Of course this implication would definitely PISS off Kitana as Tanya nudges a willingly Liu toward the dark side.

Makes sense to me. Champion would be mortal liu Kang, fire God and "dark liu" like dark raiden with classic akuma colors.
