Extra files for characters not on the roster is probably something that's been happening since Deadly Alliance. I wouldn't doubt they're on there, but that doesn't mean they might be DLC.

Though in this day and age, it's more likely. Here's to hoping.

Well to answer your question, data mining is basically hacking the game, but it's not doing anything specifically within the game (like cheat). It's to look at the game's under lying data or code, for things that might or might not be in the game. Hence the term "data mining"

During a game's development, certain things might be taken out or removed. Rather than throw off a working build of the game by removing the code entirely and then having to retest that new code that there are no bugs or glitches (which can take valuable resources and time to do), the developers might just section the code off, so that it isn't referenced or called. It's basically a lot easier than straight up deleting the code from the game's files. It's a lot less time consuming and players can't access it in the game under normal circumstances, but the coding and references are still there.

It's very well could be that these characters are secret unlockable characters, or it could be that at some point during the game's development they where planed to be, but things changed and they were removed.

The game has leaked only for PS4 and X1. Data mining is not possible in next gen consoles.

are you sure it's leaked on X1? all the streams i've seen are for the PS4 version,same thing goes for footage/pics.

I'm sorry, but you can't deny that Fujin's name on Erron's bullet is a pretty fucking BIG sign to him being playable at some point.

As I said in another thread, haven't seen much, to avoid spoilers, but from what I have seen there is more involvement from Rain, Fujin & Tanya in story mode than half of the playable roster of the game! And in the case of Rain, that includes even the damn trailer.

Yet Tanya we have to pay for and Rain and Fujin are just there to taunt us. It's either a cruel kombat style joke or they wanna see how much we will be willing to pay for them.

For those not in the know and just casual fans, the trailer alone would make one think Rain is a definite playable character. And anyone who saw the leak of the first 25min of story mode all over youtube would think Fujin would be an automatic playable.

I am still excited for the game, but I am not surprised by the way this game is being handled that my local Gamestop/EB has said they are surprised by how little pre-orders they have had for what they expected to be a very popular game.

I can't see Shao Kahn be anything but a tower fight.

Maybe at one point the roster was larger, though?

I really feel like some/all of the NPC's will show up as surprise fights in living towers and special events.

I'm not even talking about the hidden fight the achievement refers to, I'm talking about the towers that rotate daily/weekly.

NRS have hinted heavily that surprises/holidays/special events will be coming in those, and I believe they even confirmed at some point in the past we may see cameos from characters not necessarily on the roster.

We already know there are very basic fightable versions of Baraka, Sindel, Tanya and Rain on the disc. It's entirely possible, if not likely, that the other NPCs could have basic fightable versions hidden in there and if they DO... and someone were to fight against them with Erron Black, then yes, he'd need bullets with their names on them.

So while I could totally believe these bullets exist, I don't believe it confirms any of them as playable at all.

But they could be fightable.

Well Erron's xray having their name would only mean u can fight them, doesnt mean they have to be playable.

i do think the roster was originally going to be bigger though, but if so it would be weird that the people who would of been in the game arn't the first dlc people(maybe tanya was)

I agree with this. I think, if this is true, the 3 names not from MK9 would be DLC. NRS wouldn't create those as fightable characters just for inclusion in the tower, I don't think. The others...well, I think that's all they'd be, just hidden in the game or tower as adversaries you can fight.

Not necessarily. Remember the names in the clouds in Deception? These COULD all theoretically be in the game. Not all of the names could be fightable or even DLC, they could just be troll tactics on NRS's part.

Yeah,I suppose there's that possibility as well. But I seriously doubt Kahn is in the game. Urbano was fairly honest about him being deconfirmed(said interview also hinted at Shinnok being in the game)
