After playing my fair share of MKX, I think I have a solid theory on the direction of the game as a franchise.

What we know:

-there have been talks of mortal kombat and injustice being released in altering years (like modern warfare and black ops)

which would give a two year cycle to mk games. (They sell well enough to warrant it)

-extremely safe roster. No one was breaking any ground with being included on the main roster.

-NRS spent a lot of time tweaking the unreal engine to a point that they feel satisfied moving forward with.

What I think:

NRS chose a solid roster to sell the game. No risks were taken. But it was done on purpose because MKXI will be a continuation of MKX. With added roster And minor tweaks to existing roster.

From a financial standpoint they won't have to invest of a new engine. It makes sense, and they won't have to limit roster spots. Moving forward they can add to the safe baseline roster they've made.

Also,

the story arc of mkx had no tournament.

Perhaps mkxI will be Havik's tournament, hinted at in the comics.

I personally lost faith in the story of mortal kombat. MKX was the final nail in the coffin in terms of Story.

It was a complete failure and I could go on for days on why it was a stupid story and a really abrupt one.

It's funny because I didn't even take the time to think "What's going to happen next?" which I usually do after finishing an MK game.

This story was sooooo beautiful but lacked any depth or interesting events.

I really hope Shawn K, the writer of the comics, finds his way to the writing team of MK because that's the only way I could see the story getting better.

I think another tournament would be really good. Shang Tsung will no doubt be in the next game which means shit is gonna get real unless he receives the same treatment Quan Chi received in MKX.

Can't agree with you more, the story sucked on so many levels.

I have thought about that too,

I think as long as the story is structured in the "story mode" formula that mk9 and mkx had it will be lackluster. Especially in terms of depth.

In order to have a true depth to the game NRS has to let the user pick a character and compete in a tower. Between each match is a vignette rather than just at the end.

The roster in MK was not even canon so why not make a bunch of depth for each character. I think this is the only way to succeed for MK.

During canon vignettes an indicator will be displayed on the screen.

If you think about it, the only character that matters is the chosen one, this time it was Cassie in the past it was liu.

But mk should have each character on a level playing field, and you should be able to play through as any character you want and see how events would unfold if they won out.

Since the death of both Shinnok and Quan Chi it is skipping Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance and going straight to Deception but with some twists since some of them from that series will never return again.wink I like it since we have Dark Raiden now I can smell Blaze being the main boss of MK11.

Things I predict: While individual character endings are never 100% cannon, if you look at them as a whole there are usually similarities between some of them that end up panning out in the next game.. MKX is no exception..

1) Shang Tsung comes back in several... Im guessing he will be involved in MKXI.

2) Jax died in several.. I'm guessing this means he will be dead for good in the next.

3) Liu Kang/Kitana will be ruling the Nether Realm..

4) Dark Raiden is back.. If the ending has any indication of whats to come, I think Earth Realm will be the aggressor and will launch Pre-emptive Strikes... much like Kotal's ending. and the Gods will set up Mortal Kombat Tournament Rules to protect other Realms from Raiden.

5).... there will be 14 guest characters because NRS has a boner for them....

Is it weird that I have a feeling that Liu Kang could become the vessel for Onaga? He did still have the Dragon fatality in the last game and his current win pose also has that effect.

I was actually thinking the same thing recently, could be an interesting twist. It seems more, and more like NRS is trying to move away from Kang being the central good guy, and make him into something else.

With Raiden going dark again, i think its finally time to let Fujin play an actual role in the game, he has a lot of potential.
