I don't care Boon. Troll us until hell freezes over. Dangle that carrot throughout the entire game and well after. Throw us down Alice's rabbit hole and have us stare into the never ending abyss. I want that one enigma that harkens back to the industry defining legends of MK1 Reptile and Ermac. I know you can do it and you know it's what we've been waiting for since the original Mortal Kombat. Make it happen. You are a gaming god.

Well if you knew, it wouldn't be a secret would it? Maybe, deep down in the binary heart of MK9, lurks Hsu Hao waiting to be unlocked by someone beating all of the Arcade Ladder without losing on maximum with Noob in his classic costume while blindfolded, playing with your feet and whistling "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone
As long as there isn't a demo, they can keep whatever they want a secret. As long as their netcode doesn't get looked into, they'll be able to finally keep a few characters a surprise to unlock. I hope there isn't a demo.

Can't they encrypt their code or give non-descriptive and discreet names to their variables and object code? For example, instead of referencing secret character Hornbuckle as exactly that in their code call him something non-assuming such as "hjsask22".

Hopefully this time they protect it, I can't believe NRS let all that shit slip with MK9's demo. I'm sure they've learned, i'm very positive they're keep a lot of secrets until the game is actually being played.

I don't want this game leaked like 2011's. That was horrible. There are things I'd like to find out myself while I play the game, not before the game is months away from release. It takes away the fun.

I wouldn't mind secrets thrown in here, like they did with the classic fights. I would definitely like to see more of that kind of stuff in here.

Hear hear! I miss secrets/unlockable kharacters. At the start of MKDA over half the roster was locked from what I remember. There is something so rewarding about having lots of characters to unlock in a fighting game.

I remember that and I agree. I have a plan though! I worked out that there is 32 weeks between here and release. So, i'll follow along for the next 16 weeks, which should take me all the way through to the beginning of Semester 2 in college and then go MK-blackout. I'm also gonna be a little antsy regarding story spoilers. I remember when the MK9 script was leaked I read the whole thing and I was really disappointed with myself. Similarly, don't look at the trophy list. That gave away Cyber Sub.

I know some people want to be spoiled before they touch the game and know everything, I used to be like that. But with Civilization Beyond Earth and now MKX I wanna try something new. I don't want to play story mode and be able to guess what happens next. I want to open up the select screen and go "who the fuck is that Ed?" and "holy shit he's in"? I dunno, its just that MK is the last real bastion of my childhood, pure unadulterated joy kind of thing, so I want to be surprised. Wandering around Edenia in Deception, finding a chest behind a tent at night and unlocking Liu when I had no idea he was in the game is one of my all time video game highlights

Unlockables is nice, but all these random secrets... just look at the Challenge Tower prize in MK9, when we finally found out what that was... HUGE disappointment.

Nah, I'd rather know what I'm getting than having to figure it out and eventually get disappointed... again.

Gotta say I agree with you, that was a huge let down. I was hoping for another character at least.

Exactly. I can't bring myself to look at things with spoilers anymore after what happened three years ago. I didn't spoil that much, but for what I did spoiled, I felt kinda of ashamed that I did that because I like finding things for myself. It feels to me like it takes away the purpose of playing a game that's brand new to you.

If anyone wants to be spoiled immediately, that's their decision. Others however, don't seem that they want to be and I certainly don't blame them. Just hope that, when the time comes for all these spoilers and such when the game comes out, people are at least respectful enough to let people not find out immediately because you want to spoil things for others. I think that aggravated me more than anything else during 2011's game.

IMO if there are any spoils or leaks, it should 100% stay off the forums.

C'mon everyone, you're missing the point. This isn't about spoiling story mode or finding normal unlocks that anyone can reveal. This is about incredibly well hidden secrets that gaming communities rumor and fantasize about well after a game's release, and don't often come to light until years after. These are what you call super secrets and usually compose some of the life blood of any persistent game. MK1 Reptile and Ermac outclass any secret in every MK game thereafter. We have yet to see anything come remotely close in quality except for maybe MK2's hidden fighters.

Now see, that was different. NRS diliberately tried to ramp up the prize for completing the Challenge Tower. Probably because they knew it sucked and had to give people a reason to finish, or they wanted to appeal to dudebros.

Either way, we knew there was some sort of reward. When I think about a secret, its something we're not told. Like those secret things in The Krypt. Or those hidden interactions in KOTH. Stuff like that is fun.

I'm all for secrets and unlockables.

Yeah I too like discovering things for myself. I agree with OP I think it would be cool if they tried to put in some super secret crap that takes a long ass time to discover, the only problem is now we have hackers and people that can go in and can uncover almost everything within in the game without even really playing it, then its on the internet and everybody knows lol

Anyway im all for some super secret character that is ridiculously hard or tedious to fight or unlock. I also hope NRS doesn't tell us the entire roster before release, and even make it so we have to play the game a little to unlock a few of them.

I used to not care about spoilers when I was young but as I have got older I started to find it much more enjoyable to find and discover things on my own, I like surprises.

I don't care about secrets. In the days of the internet it's impossible- so why try? They couldn't even keep Zombie Liu a secret in MKD and that was ten years ago

I hope there is one. But thanks to the internet everyone (once it is discovered) will have the chance to see how to reval it. Like in mk9 and before i tried to discover everything by my self. Like in the snes mega drive times. There is nothing greater than to perform a fatality that you didnt know before or to find a secret fight etc.

Internet works like a TV after all, if you are afraid of something you might not like there is a remote control, just switch channel.

I wish that Mk forums will avoid leaks or post them under spoiler.

Personally I was never caught by leaks.

In this era with all the datamining, super secrets have lost its meaning. I'm sorry but that's the way it is. No more legendary secrets that no one could eve knew if they were true or not. It's all there for dataminers to check and having experience myself making videogames I can tell you the way the code is made, it's generally easy to see what you're looking for.
