im willing to bet every dragonpoint i have that boon diddnt mean to start 100% fresh with no existing chars. why give sektor the potential of all of the tekunin, or hype up quan chi, more and more with every game.

theres too much unexplored potential and too many characters need closure to just scrap them.

every DP i have sais a MAX of10 new chars, my guess is around 3.

Boon never said everyone except Scorpion & Sub-Zero was going. He did say that Armageddon was likely going to be the end for many characters and the next game was intended to be something of a fresh start....which is a very vague statement and could mean a lot of things.

We should also keep in mind this is the same Ed Boon who said MK8 would be a dark and gritty new beginning for the series....then gave us MK vs. DC.
As for this list, as already pointed out, it's bullshit.

I sort of hope that all of the playable characters are new, but we do see some of the classic characters who survived as NPCs, if they were to do another boring Konquest mode.

If the whole cast is new, why even call it MK? Wouldn't it make more sense just to make a new game?

If Noob Saibot isn't back, I'm going to be forever unfaithful to the series. Noob is like my soul, in video game world. I've been playing MK since when Mk1 came out, I was playing on Genesis with my (at the time best friends house.) It was so cool, cause the blood code was more profound. Our moms made sure the blood code wasn't on =)

His mom died 2 years after that.. We maintained a half assed friendship for not to long after that, when he started doing other things, and I moved on.

The mortal kombat franchise will always mean something to me...no matter what, my point is, the story is at a loss right now. Bring that story back in some coherent formulation, from which we understand, where it last left off. MK3? Trilogy?

I think it's quite probable we'll be seeing Noob again. I wish that weren't the case, but the pattern seems to be that Noob is in at least every other MK game. Also, a good sum of characters from MKvsDC will probably sit out MK9, making Noob Saibot's appearance even more likely.

But knowing Boon, who knows. They may put in someone we completely don't expect.

Are people still getting this from the interview he did before MK vs DC was announced? The whole "clearing the slate" interview that he did?

I'm just wondering, because alot of people throw these words around like he's made that sort of committment to this next, upcoming game. For all we know, WB might just say "hey, we want your best characters from the past and a few new ones, no complete reboot."

In terms of new PLAYABLE characters:

MK2 had 7
MK3 had 8
UMK3 and MKT combined had 8
MK4/Gold had 7
MK:DA had 10 (I hadn't looked at the art style for this game in a while, wow... It's SO much better than MK:D, MK:A etc. Probably the best since MK2)
MK:D had 8
MK:A had 7

I'm not sure where you got 3 from, but to me, it seems like the pattern of the past is between 7 and 10 new characters. I think that it'll be closer to 10 if this is somewhat of a revamping and not a complete reboot of the franchise.

If it's a reboot, obviously we'll see a lot more.

Even if it's more of a status quo sequel to Armageddon, I could still see them putting in a minimum of 7 new characters, but I think we'll see more than that. Something tells me that the first real sequel in this series since Deception will have a lot more new stuff than old stuff.
