Now that we have Jacqui, is Jax obsolete?

Of all the offsprings, Jacqui is the one I hope most to remain a long-term replacement for the predecessor.

Her gauntlets allow her to do pretty much anything Jax could do, but she also happens to have a more interesting story. While she and Cassie are friends, they're not essentially glued together like Sonya and Jax. Jacqui isn't the Jax to Cassie's Sonya, as she's the one with a love interest, not Cassie.

And yeah, I'll be honest, Jacqui being a pretty black girl is one of the reasons I'd be happy with her replacing Jax permanently.

They don't have the same movesets and strategies at all so I'm fine if both of them come back.

This is a fighting game. In the end the most important thing is the gameplay.

They could, to some degree, incorporate Jax's moves into a Jacqui variation in XI but it's not necessary.

I like playing as Jax.

I actually agree with you about individualizing Jacqui's moveset more. I just think that she could still make Jax obsolete if they couldn't be bothered to do that (individualize her moveset, I mean). I've long liked Jax's moveset and fatalities more than his character, so it'd be great if I didn't have to play as him to use those.

I was surprised by Jaquie on a positive way. She still is bottom half on my list but I was expecting to dislike her and she ended up being her own thin instead of her father's copy. I like her more than her father but I wouldn't use the premise of "they are too similar" as an excuse to leave one out.

She's just the most normal newcomer and those aren't generally well received.

Jax will never be obsolete, and Jacqui fell so flat that she's completely superfluous.

Jax, Sonya, Johny Cage, and Kung Lao will never be obsolete. They are still the backbone , along with rest of the classic era characters(MK1-MK4), of the MK universe. I'll always take these characters over their hipster offspring or relatives.

Part of the reason is that, the kids in MKX are not individuals at all. Characters of the past (pre MK9) were individual in terms of who they are even when you consider if they were affiliated with the same organization. None of kids have nothing going for them in terms on how they fit in the MK universe. They are just trying to prove to themselves to their parents .

Myself, I've always liked the personal stories of the older MK games. Where all the characters had a personal mission that would progress their character and give them something to fight for.

Jacqui and the rest of the kids , storyline seemed cliche in MKX. I like Jacqui , but I like Jax's storyline , more so pre reboot a lot more.

Jax is one of my all time favorites, so no I wouldn't want to see him permanently replaced by Jacqui. That being said, he WAS retired in story mode, and came out of retirement to help the S.F. beat the crud out of Shinnok. I could easily see him going back into retirement afterward. If he sits out a game or two, or permanently...I'd miss him. But in fighting games, characters usually always come back for some reason.

I don't think characters should replace each other but I love Jacqui and I hope she stays. I thought all the kombat kids were surprisingly well introduced. But I still love the parents more. I don't think any of them are done yet.

I don't think so. I love Jacqui and the rest of the new generation, but the classics can't be replaced that quickly

If anything I think it's the MKX newcomers that have a higher chance of being replaced by MK11's new batch. Happened in Deadly Alliance with Deception and it will happen again.

Yep and that's why there is hardly any love of nostalgia saving most of the 3D characters.

And I have no doubt the bone heads calling the shots at NRS will let it happen again.

I wouldn't say Jax is obsolete but considering his and her tech it'd be easy to give her some of his moves. She already has a ground pound and various projectiles but it'd be easy to give her Jax's purple one. She already has her own dash punch and they could give her her own command grab since the gauntlets clearly enhance her strength.

The real question is if Johnny and Sonya are obsolete cause Cassie can glow and propel herself and flip and everything her parents can do. And actually Takeda can inherit Kenshi's sword.

Really only Kung Jin doesn't borrow too heavily from his relative.

No, that's just a testament to how derivative and unnecessary Cassie is.

Kenshi is more than just sword moves, and Takeda is already a very unique character. Why can't they co-exist?

Jax will never be obsolete, not only does Jacqui not play as similar to him as Cassie/Johnny, but Jax is also still one of the most iconic characters. Now the people crying "unpopular!!!11" (although he is used/played more than fan favorites with "gigantic fanbases" like Kitana and Mileena) are in for disappointment since he is one the developers favorites.

Jax says I just knocked some rust off so he isn't rusty anymore that means he will be the same kickass character he always will be in the next game if he returns. Bring it.wink
