Not liking the parry X-Ray with no continuation.

After watching some times the gameplay video, I think I don't like Sub-Zero's X-Ray move.

For starters it's a parry move, so activating it depends on predicion of your opponent moves.

Then it looks buggy at its current iteration (it fails once even if it correctly parries then the developers use a cheat to fill his x-ray bar), and is shorter than the others (2 sections instead of 3 like the others).

And the worst part is that it throws the opponent far and low, which means there aren't continuation oppotunities AFTER the X-Ray like Jonny Cage had.

Most X-Rays were usually incorpored at the end of combos during MK9 for devastating effect, and then Jonny Cage had the opportunity to follow his X-Ray because it was a parry, but this one seems to let the opponent in a position where you will hardly continue the move (maybe a single non enchanced slide). That needs some fixing IMO or it will affect his gameplay a lot :S

I hope the combination of it being buggy and having just 2 sections means this isn't finished and the final product at least lets us continue the combo if we're fast enough. Jonny didn't have it easy (you had to dash as fast as possible right at the end of his X-Ray) but he could continue the move.

It's important to remember this game is still pretty far away. They're definitely going to keep polishing the game as the time goes by.

True, but that doesn't make it impossible to catch someone in an X-Ray. it solely depends on your skill with the character and reading your opponents movements. For example, I've X-Ray'd people a dozen times with Johnny Cage's parry X-Ray in MK 2011.

Then it looks buggy at its current iteration (it fails once even if it correctly parries then the developers use a cheat to fill his x-ray bar), and is shorter than the others (2 sections instead of 3 like the others).

This is an early demo of the game. I'm sure it will be fixed in the future. Look at MK 2011's E3 demonstration and you'll see pretty much the same thing in terms of slight glitches and "cheats" to refill the meter bar. Even the interface of the health/meter bar looks different compared to the final MK 2011 build.

And the worst part is that it throws the opponent far and low, which means there aren't continuation oppotunities AFTER the X-Ray like Johnny Cage had.

There are a few characters in MK 2011 who had X-Ray's you couldn't perform combos after. Sure, it would be cool if he could follow up with attacks, but not every character can. Besides, you should rely too much on X-Ray's anyway during battle as it takes up your entire meter. You'd be better off using enhanced attacks and following up with combos.

Again, this is an early build of the game. I remember Sub-Zero's X-Ray in 2011 was VERY different from his final one. The original had him freeze the ground to create a trail towards the opponent and then an ice spear shot out of the ground launching the opponent near Sub-Zero to perform the X-Ray. The final has Sub-Zero slide across the ground, shoulder ramming the opponent into the X-Ray.

My problem with it being a parry and having to predict the action is that you don't choose when to unleash it. A non-parry X-Ray allows you to decide when you're throwing it, a parry one needs the opponent to take action so it doesn't depend just on you.

And my problem with the "no continuation" is that as you said, not all X-Rays could be continued, but ALL OF THEM could be done AFTER combos. Parrys can't be done after combos, so it made sense that Cage could continue his own X-Ray to add more damage at the end of it.

Sub-Zero's X-Ray looks like you can't add damage either at the beginning or at the end of the X-Ray which is really bad, specially considering that is a move that needs both you and your opponent to act instead of just you.

Characters with Grapple X rays couldn't combo into or out of it either.(Kano and Jax spring into mind)

We really cant say this will be his final X ray, I remember when Mileena had a different one when they first showed MK9 then it was given to Johnny before he had his unique counter in later versions.

Just because it requires your opponent to press a button doesn't mean its bad, having full meter means they will be scared, not being able to combo into it or getting a follow up after it makes it a candidate for big damage on its own to make up for it. But again we really cant judge any of that stuff since it can easily change.
