Konquest was fun, buggy, and utterly cheesy, but awesome part of the last two otherwise so-so MKs. Although most agree that Eddie's "next generation Liu-Kang" was a flop and otherwise stoogepigeon, we can learn from those mistakes. And Taven while having a decent backstory, came off as equally braindead.

Why did Vogel create interesting backstories, yet have the so called "protagonists" of the last two Mortal Kombat games have the guile and intuition of a toddler. I mean granted MK has always been stretched in terms of quality writing, but Vogel seems like he's got an edge and a deep rooted understanding of the characters(those new bios for instance).

While the new game's story mode is still being kept underwraps, what would you like to see in a new "protagonist"? Even if it's an old character who was elevated to that position. Tell us why their personality, past, and actions would make them an interesting "game lead" as it seems Raiden is the protaganist of the new MK retelling.

Every fan's gotta different idea about who should be "the lead" in the story, but what kind of character would you prefer to see take the stage in the hypothetical sequel or new future game? Hell even an adventure/action game is fine.

Just post your thoughts and explain your position.

i think they should just stick with liu kang for he future games. I really don't think its necessary to bring in a ew protagonist in each new game i think it
would be best if they worked on the characters they have now and continue on with them then add some linking new characters

Liu Kang had a very vague storyline in the canon games, but I always thought he was the coolest character. Shujinko wasn't horrible, he was just really foolish. Taven was just an arrogant bastard who was a burden to play konquest mode with.

So who could be the next protagonist? I don't care, nobody can top Liu Kang in my book. We need a simplistic character who with an iconic, simple look (Something you can build out of props and update in later games like they did in mk1-3) Of course, since they went back to MK1, there's always a chance that they can make Liu Kang the main character again.

Kidd Thunder could become the new protagonist, Raiden may rely on him.

Instead of trying to force-feed the protagonist on us, it would be much better to introduce the character first and develop him/her into that role as his/her story progresses. That way, we see a real journey and can truly invest in that character. Being force-fed was a big part of the problem when it came to both Shujinko and Taven. As for Liu Kang, he's had his moment. There's no point in having him continue on, especially as the main protagonist. Having him continue as the main protagonist due to him previously having that role is not a valid excuse.

My idea is that when the story gets into a whole bunch of new characters, they should show potential in more than one character to become the main protagonist. It should be kind of like in MK1 when there was a sense of ambiguity. Then again, maybe there doesn't need to be a main protagonist. Just have several protagonists as part of an ensemble story.
