It'd be nice to have in the future an MK story that is based on real countries in the world, which will make it even more realistic and exiting.

The story will be about a new Outworld race invading Earthrealm. Where its army has spread in different regions like USA, Europe, Middle East, Asia...Each region will be the new MK game, for example the next MK will start with "Mortal Kombat in Europe" that includes several European countries or cities like Paris, Germany, Italy, Spain...

So, MK story will be showing us what really happened or is happening to the earth countries. This will make the story and the arenas backgrounds more realistic. For example, in "Mortal Kombat in Middle East" the MK characters are fighting against the new sophisticated Outworld army at an arena of the pyramids of Egypt, where real life pyramids shots are displayed in the background...whereas in the story the mystery about why fighting for the pyramids will be revealed in the game or at the characters endings...
Also, new MK characters can be included depending on the region they are fighting for, like if in "Mortal Kombat in Asia" region a Japanese MK martial arts character(s) fighting for Japan country...

In conclusion, the idea is that the new Outworld race has spread in different countries that each has a reason or mystery behind it, based on real life countries history or situation. Where MK characters are defending these countries for their own reason.

I dunno, the whole "Every character is from a different country, and they're all racially diverse" thing in every other fighting game always comes off so god damned forced, in my opinion. They have a habit of making that the character's only trait.

For instance, can you name ONE unique thing about Christie from Tekken other than she's a Brazilian chick who knows a Brazilian martial art?

Is there anything about Nightwolf or T. Hawk or Chief Thunder that makes them different personalities from one another?

Nope. All tokens.
Besides, MK's big selling point has always been it's homages to old 70's Kung Fu movies. "Enter the Dragon with Magic", Psuedo-Asian mythological characters like Raiden, and so on. That was what always bothered me about MK3 and made it feel like the game didn't fit in. By setting it in an American city, they lost the cool Hong Kong Cinema feel of the whole thing.
