I think I haven't seen this posted here, if I'm wrong please close this.

Some cool gameplay from Subbie and some new moves:

- He got a falling hammer move that's really interesting and bring some new strategy to his Cryomancer variation. You can see it several times during the fight, at 00:26 you can see he winning the round thanks to that move surprising his opponent after evading him.

- Around 2:58, Sub-Zero starts a combo where you can clearly see he is implementing his X-Ray (the opponent is stunned so it isn't activated as a parry and you can see the hit count continuing from the previous hits). I REALLY LOVE this. There was a video before where there were doubts about his ability to release the X-Ray and charge instead of parry, but this completly confirms it. I hated the idea of having a parry X-Ray. having it as either charge or parry makes it completly different and more enjoyable for me.

All of this combined with how disappointed I was about the Unbreakable variation shown on the official stream (the ice armor doesn't add first hit stun armor like Quan Chi's special and the devs playing stopped using the variation specific moves after showing them as they were hard to pull and very uneffective) makes the balance go for Cryomancer all the way as it was already pointing in that direction. The hammer fall move adds a lot to strategy IMO and I love it.

I thought the unbreakable variation looked much better than I initially anticipated. The ice armor can be useful and the ice shield will be a great asset. I will use this variation for sure.

That being said I truly can not wait to play as a rushdown subzero (cryomancer) I am so excited to use that variation it looks great.

It appeared that the person playing as scorpion was FAR better than the guy playing subzero at the twitch kast. I hope that is not because scorpion is over powered (his combos were insane!) I am sure I will be able to play subby better than that guy, he didnt get much going with combos.

For me the point that would've changed everything with Unbreakable would've been first hit armor. I read someone posting that it had stun armor and I was excited but taking some grains of salt until I could see gameplay.

During the stream when I saw that Quan Chi had first hit armor in one of his move I was excited to check if Sub-Zero had it too, but then he used the armor and it didn't stop the first stun which disappointed me. And the guy using the variation stopped using all the variation moves after that, which made it look like it was worthless to even try them.

The Ice Shield only works on the front side (previous parries worked in both direction) wich made it even worse as it's already a move that depends a bit on prediction and opponent behaviour instead of your own strategy. The Ice Armor seems to reduce the damage a bit, but not too much. It doesn't seem to have a very long casting time, but still not worth losing the advantages of Cryoancer (overheads, air assault with this new move, long reach on oponers and uppercuts...) and Grandmaster (scenario control with the clone).

Everything could change until the game releases, but right now Unbreakable needs a couple of improvements IMO.

Unbreakable does look very solid.

The Ice Shield working from one side is absolutely fair in my opinion. It's a pretty big hitbox afterall. Really all you have to do is wait for someone to pressure you or use it on wakeup if they try to hit you.

I'm also happy with the Ice Armor as well. I don't think it needs additional armor that negates hit stun because it's already reducing the damage he can take. If he had first hit armor I think it'd be too much.

If they added first hit armor or even buffed the armor to take less damage they may need to give it a reverse effect as well such as speed slightly slowed while armored.

It did not look as though subby was hindered by the armor in this build, thankfully.

The X-Ray is new to me.

Maybe it now works as a Parry or an offensive attack?

The stream from days ago confirmed Scorpion having different ways of pulling off his X-Ray. Maybe the same could be said for Sub-Zero?

Perhaps if you use it standalone it is a parry and when you combo into it, it becomes an attack.

The MK9 one could be held, with Subby taking the form of an ice statue in very similar fashion. It wasn't a parry then but maybe this time around it's the same (hold and release for charge, hold and get hit for parry) with the addition of the parry componnent to spice things up? In that same video there is a moment that Scorpion seems to pull his own x-ray as a parry but it could be that he just avoided the attack with the animation.

Scorpion's X-Ray in that video is funky.

Around the 1 minute mark. He performs it, but Sub-Zero beat him out of it.

Around the 2:38 mark. He nails it but he still got hit by the hammer.

His X-ray was always a parry AND an offensive move. They just showed the parry part only in early builds. Hold buttons for parry, release for attack. Thats what is so fucking great about his X-ray. I just hope they dont decide to nerve it later on given that you can combo into it and use it as a parry.

On another note, I see everyone talking about the Grandmaster and Cryomancer variations all the time while no one mentions Unbreakable. This seems the most solid variation Sub has I'd say. Because the variation is very defense-based while having great rushdown options as well and the game overall seems very rushdown based, I think it will be Sub's best out of the three and my main variation for him.
