I like idea of insects being introduced into the next MK. I've always been a fan of the non-human characters: Reptile, Baraka, Kintaro, etc.
It's hard to come up with something else, almost everything has been introduced in MK already from robots to reptilians to demons to you name it.

Gonna have to agree with Legacy, I mean, I think MK went too far with Motaro and Nitara, but they did it, it's over and done with. Personally, I'd like to see some races aiming towards ancient Asian mythology. Anyone here willing to research up on that, I support you. Other than that, I say think of some better ideas

PORCELAIN SOLDIER, I support your idea on races aiming toward ancient Asian mythology, but a lot of us are missing the point, we are talking about races, not characters that you pick at the arcade screen...races that roam the realms and fight in armies, like Hotaru's Seidan guardsmen...those characters will eventually be in the MK franchise if it keeps growing like this, because like I have said; Ed Boon wants to expand MK's mythology...

1. Okay what I meant by pirates being as races is actually being more like a clan, they could reside in the Earthrealm and Outworld as criminals who have joined forces with the Black and Red Dragon clans.
2. Now for the big Captain character--his name is Captain Insano; Here is his storyline, I will explain--fighting styles-- and weapons after this:
My ship became shipwrecked on a bay, so my men and I set out to explore the island in which we were on. I came across a small settlement, in which I became informed to be the Black Dragon clan from a man named Kano. My men and I were informed to meet with this Kano, and he offered us a chance to prove ourselves worthy of the Black Dragon clan, so we raided and village plundered the so called "realm of Earth" killing many of thousands of people. My men and I then became members of the Black Dragon. My men and I had a new purpose; to serve the so called Emperor of Outworld, Shao Kahn.
Fighting Styles: Drunken Fist, Judo
Weapon: Pirate Cutlass

1. Pirates as a clan might work at a stretch, but you really don't need a whole bunch of them just one really thought out character, a leader or an exceptionally bloodthirsty one. Being modern day i don't think they should be based in earthrealm at all, perhaps in outworld but more like nomads, rouges and cutthroats. Also i don't think they should join the Red and/or Black Dragon clans outright, these to clans arent that trustworthy amongst themselves let alone outsiders. perhaps you can have your pirates doing jobs for the two clans behind their backs, then once they discover wot you have been doing, can turn on you outright, considering it an act of betryal making it a three way battle.
2. if you're gonna make ur captain ur main pirate then you need to delve more into his background, explain how he became a pirate and how he got to the position of captain (lots of killing i hope ) also your bio leads us to believe that kano met you as soon as you arrived then you went off to meet him, a small error that needs correcting. Kano is smart, he wouldn't take the captain and his crew in as he wouldn't know where their allegiances lie with him or their captain. Kano could instead tell the captain to kill his own crew to prove his loyalty or he would kill them all. Your captain could agree seeing it as the only way to save himself, yet afterwards hold a deep resentment to kano, leaving the door open for future betrayal.
Hope u don't think i was being over crictical and my ideas help you, check out some past threads of peeps created characters to see if it gives u any inspiration, MKs a big world and who knows if ur character makes it?

How about a tengu type character? they look hillarious! I would take a tengu looking character over bo rai cho any day.
There are actually 2 types of them. One has a face reminiscent of a human with a really long nose, the other looks like some kind of bird. Well, the human looking one is already in Dead or alive but doesn't mean MK can't have one too.

Yeah I had an idea like this months ago and i wrote some real quick story and I said that the new races lived in another realm and they were biulding up an army to attack the other realms.

Hey, thanks CrispyDragon, that gave me new thoughts on what to do with the pirates and the pirate captain. I will be sure to work on a more advanced story, that was just a rough sketch. Your ideas are flawless, and don't worry you may see them in my advanced bio which is comming soon, I need a lot of time to work on it....so thanks again....and don't worry there will be lots of killing, and oh yes there will be blood!
Ive had an idea born from the pirate notion. Ive used Pirates for lack of inspiration for a decent unique name.
A race that seems somewhat insanely greedy. Bent on possetions, wealth, and any form of control and power. Due to their glutanous nature, societies couldnt form where it not for their enslavement of the surviving of the Saurian race who fled their homerealm when a genecide of the Saurians was lead by Shao Khan. The reptilic race was enslaved and bread in masses for use as slaves. Saurians were perfect for these roles, as being devided from their homeland caused increasing madness leading them to be unaware of the rights they were denied, but instead insanely devoted to their masters.
Cock fighting with use of the Saurians became common place, as gambling was a fundamental part of the Pirates culture. With slaves to put to work, the Pirate race became powerful and their culture grew rapidly. The first Pirate societies were formed, and their unpresedented technological advancements hastily lead to the development of vehicles to traverse the realms.
They discovered an aether like substance that was the fabric between the realms, alowing them to traverse to from any location within one realm to anywhere within another realm with the use of their realmships. This meathod of travel was dangerous, however, as threads of aether warp could tear crew and ships apart, scatering their mutilated, decapitated bodies and hulls across the realms. Some even unfortunte enough to survive the initial process, segmented across the realms, yet alive, only to experience the painful tearing of their atomic structure back and forth between realm space before an entual and inevitable severing of their body threw a slow painful process. Some, however, have lived on with severed body pieces, be them fingers, limbs or worse. Over time, however, relatively safe routes between realms have been discovered, causing realm areas, such as the Bermuda triangle of Earthrealm. Their use of realm traversing vehicles and other realmwarping technology has had side affects on the race, further encouraging their erratic, compulsive, greedy nature, causing them to attact others in bouts of insanity, looting and raiding when profit is minamal, and mass homocide out of unfounded fear for their possessions, even when their presence may have gone unnoticed. Some also suffer realm burning, causing their skin to blacken and smoke whilst, ash faling from their flesh and black smoke emitng from their lungs. These effects, however, are not as harsh within the aether itself, causing some to remain just to find peace from the eternal pain. The inhuman persistance and toughness of the races people, however, has aloud them to continue with this pain due to their undieing desire for progress, the pain outweighed by their utmost desire to increase the quantity and worth of their collective goods, the disadvantage only leveling the playing field in direct competition with most other mortal races. The visual effects of realmburning have worked in the favour of many pirates, however. Combined with the menacinly weathered and leathering skin of the aged within the populous, the bloated and firey crimson iris of their race, athletic bodies, taste for flashy, self promoting and empowering dress, deep purpil skin and ferocious, bloodthirsty nature, the burning and smoking of their skin causes them to be a race who can win battles by sheer intimidation, speed and resolve. Their only true weakness is a lack of strength compared to races such as the Shokan, and a lack of defensive tactics, opting to strike and counter over effective defense, due to their impatient, pschopathic nature.
Despite these dangers, greed caused the transport to be so popular that the Pirate societies to become abandoned, except one important metropolis that acts as a place of trade and industry for the race, who have no other way of trading inter-realm goods without prosecution. Industrial production of realm traversing products has caused much wealth for some members of the race, who have taken their place as political leaders of the race. Saurion gaurds, who find honour in their right to protect such prestigous individuals, protect the palaces, along with Pirates granted positions of power below polotians. Assasination is rare, however, despite repeated attempts, as the greatest saurions hide in near invisibility within the Political Leaders throne rooms and sleeping quarters, ever vigilant.
Great warriors of this race have emerged, using realm warping abilities empowered to them by devices purchased from the many murchants of their homeland.
Anywho, theres my idea for a race. Cant really think of a decent name but meh. The basic idea is that members (1 or 2 likely) of this race could get invovled in future mortal kombat tournaments, likely motives being the capture of political leaders of foreign lands (edinea) to hold for ransom (although a hostage role during a full blown assault is more likely then a wait and trade senario) or to capture artifacts of seeming worth (Sub-Zeroes ancient armour, Kamidogu, ect)
Fighters of this race would be fast, athletic, use a range of attacks from mid to high (though not excesive) damage, use teleportation based special moves (near realm travel) and realm manipulating projectiles. They would also take limited damage from enemy attacks (80% of normal damage, say) but take excessive damage whilst blocking (60% of normal damage) although mid-combo cancels to parries, and other advanced countering techniques would be useful. They would also take excessive damage when countered, and have elongated delays (leaving themselves open with excessively aggressive attacks).
Levels based on this race could include:
-- a multi tier fight -- High in Royal Towers in homeworld city -> gaurds quarters closer to streets -> Marketplace within streets
-- deathtrap rich fight -- Realmship traversing the aether - aether storms off deck and unstable onboard devices (xploding and killing victim on impact). This ship could also be doomed to be torn apart by the aether storm it is within, as segments of the ship are torn and flung about (think a more eradic violant version of the collapsing circular cliff level from MK:D)
-- 'Cage' arena (walls only interactive element) -- Saurian 'cock fighting' cage. (with liquid up pirates in the background rattling the cages, throwing scraps, yelling, placing bets, and creating a rowdy atmosphere. Other cages can be seen in the background with saurians, and other assorted beasts doing battle.

Zombies would suck as we already have Drahmin, who in his Oni form is already Zombie like. And err meat >__>
Secondly Pirates as a clan would be ok, although i would want them to be "Realm Pirates" where they traverse the realms stealing, kiling, raping etc. Sure it'd be a bit edgy but hey.
My idea for a new race is a sort of werewolf type people, not quite werewolves but close enough to be outcasted from humanity. Perhaps they could be found in the darkest area of chaosrealm
