MK has had a history of making characters which are loosely based on movie marial artists...if you watch the big troung in Little China and enter the Dragon...you have seen quite a bit of the apparent inspiration for MK .i will make a quick list
Lui Kang - Bruce Lee
Johnny Kage - van damnne
Kobra - Johnny from karate Kid
Raiden - The guy from Big trouble in littel China (i think his name was
raiden
Darrius ( obvious in his second outfit) the black guy in Enter the Dragon
Shang Tsung- Kind of a mix of the villan from enter the Dragon and many
old farts in movies
Shujinko - Pi Mei from Kill Bill
Robot Ninjas - the Predator
Sonya, Kitana, All the Ninjas, Hotaru, Hsu Tsoa, Kano, Fujin, Kai, Bo Rai Cho among others have alot of similarites between them and characters found in obscure martial arts movies
However there are a few big martial art archetypes that have been left out that should be brought in.......
A Muay Thai kickboxer.....(kinda like the guy in Kickboxer) yes he would be similar to the guy from street fighter...but who cares
Aikido specialist - think steven seagal...the guy would be a throw expert alot of in close moves ...his two styles could be aikido and judo his weapon a kendo stick....make him with alot of counter moves...his strikes would be kind of like Hotaru...short and powerful...not alot of range though
samauir warrior (Hotaru and Kenshi mix)....yes these two kind of do it...but i am looking for full on samaui armor with the sword....his weapon would be a katana sword...his projectile would be like Night wolf....another special move would be to activate his armour which would make attacks do less damage...the trade off is that projectiles do twice as much damage
Shonuf....a real black bad ass...think The Last Dragon....make a mean dude like the bad guy in that movie...can make his story somehow linked to Orderrealm....speaking of the Last Dragon...
Little Kid .....Think a mix of ernie Reyesjr in the Last Dragon and the Karate Kid.....a littel guy with alot of heart...super fast....maybe this can be Lui Kang's brother in the story....he would be Kang like...but much smaller...faster...does less damage...
cowboy ...think walker texas ranger....or maybe you can make him a POW...some kind of Chuck Norris salute

There are some good ideas there. I would be interested to see a Muay thai fighter (as long as the muay thai doesn't suck like Jax's in MKDA). Muay Thai is quite a brutal martial art, and I think it would fit an MK fighter very well. I'd also like to see a good grappler or two, using either wrestling or a similar style. Someone in another thread had the idea of a samurai swordswoman, which I thought would be cool.
Little kids should NEVER be MK characters. This would be, imo, going too far, and kids getting killed would give the censors every excuse to come down hard on MK, with a ban likely. Not sure I like the idea of a cowboy, or Shonuf.

I hope they bring back Kai, with caperoia as one of his styles. He had an akward version of it in MK4/MKG, and I think if done correctly, and in combination with a fast moving kung fu style (Wushu or Jeet Kune Do perhaps) could make a very deadly fighter.
Caperoia and Muay Thai would fit poorly together for one character. Muay Thai is a far less mobile style, whereas caperoia uses a lot of movements, dodging etc. Like I said, I think one of the faster Chinese kung fu styles would be a far better match.

when i say kid i was thinking more like teenager....this would not be a first in fighting games....look at Lion in VF.....
and the Muay Thai and capoiera mix is a bad idea...i want the guy tall with long leg reach vicious elbows and knees...with alot of hi then low dial a combos...or low then high....as far a capoiera...they did it in tekken...lets not bite too much off of them plus i only can think of one crappy martial arts movie that really feature it

Ohter fighting games do have kid/teen characters, it's true. But none of these games feature those characters getting decapitated, or murdered in other similar gory ways, or they themselves doing the killing in this way. I think there are certain lines the MK series should not cross, and kids is one of them.
A teen might be a bit easier to get away with than a kid, since many horror movies feature teens dying. But it would still be a very big risk, censors are very touchy about children, and many still do not see videogames in the same way they see movies. Especially in the States, home of MK, where these loony censorship groups seem to be far more influential than similar groups in other countries. Like it or not, many non gamers see videogames as still being kids stuff.
