It is almost a given that the next MK game will probably revolve around Shinnok trying to take over Earthrealm. In that itself, it would be boring, as it's pretty much a repeat of MK4, even with most of the good characters that was in MK4 are now dead. But I was thinking, what if the following was the premise of the game?

I have always been curious what type of Elder God Shinnok was exactly of? i.e. Lightning, Wind, Fire, etc. Yes, I believe even as Elder God, they still personify some forces of nature. Perhaps not just as element that's common to one realm like Fujin or even Lightning like Raiden, but something more universal, like Time and Space. So I actually think Shinnok was the Elder God of Time. This sorta parallel the feud between Raiden and Shinnok with Zeus and Cronus. If MK have borrow from Shinto Mythology, then it too can borrow from Greek Mythology. And yes without the fact, that Cronus and Zues was father and son; Shinnok and Raiden do not have to be even related. Anyway, in order for this to work, we must understand that the gods in the MK are specifically train in one type of power: Wind, Fire, Time, etc. This is to ensure that they only control one aspect of the MK world. They can produce other type of power, but this is usually frown upon.

MK9 Intro Video shows a desperate Raiden using his amulet to contact his past self to alter some events. While, this stop and probably killed Shao Kahn. He used Shinnok's Time like power to alter the history of MK. This have consequences. First, it alerted Shinnok of what exactly happened. So he quickly sent Quan Chi to spy on the events of MK9 and used it Shinnok advantage. Second, it somehow make Shinnok more powerful. Not so much a push over like we always joke how he was in MK4. So MK10 will definitely feature a more powerful Shinnok. The continuance fall out of Raiden time altering history resumes.

More on Shinnok being the Elder God of Time. This power allow him to survive the millenia that he was tortured by Lucifer, quicken the torture bouts if you know what I mean. Each realm time could work differently. What is 1000 years in Netherealm could just be eons in Earthrealm. He could have travel back in time to alter the events, that led to Raiden banish him. But apparently the thought escape his mind. All he wanted to do was focus on moving forward, to find an escape to wage war once again. This happens. People tend to focus on something and completely forgot they had an alternate and easier way.

Anyway, what you guys think?

Someone else had an idea that Shinnok saw what Rayden was doing sending his message. What he was a god of was never really mentioned.

The God of Time would make a lot of sense. I mean he could've done some things to alter characters (i.e. the origins of the Sub-Zero's being kidnapped, Sonya's father dead, etc...). I still believe he knew was Rayden was doing. I rewatched the end scene of MK 9 with Quan Chi telling him his plan worked, but Quan seemed a little surprised that Rayden survived the events of MK3. Shinnok, seeing past visions, sends Quan Chi to have more influence in the events of MK1-3 (mostly to grow his Army).

But since Shinnok does know Quan Chi has the amulet and will betray him, he has a backup plan. Shang Tsung was killed by Khan, but we didn't see his soul amongst the ones that Quan Chi owns. He resurrects him in secret and promises him to free him of his pact with Khan by getting back the amulet. I think Shang would benefit seeing how the Netherealm has millions of tortured souls and he is a soul stealer with some knowledge of possessing people. He lets him go to find his own destiny.

Just an idea I had in mind.

That would be a nice example of what Shinnok can do in this alternate timeline.
