So, if there's a character roster of 24 characters I'd say half new, half returning. There may be DLC and Hidden Characters but for the starting group I'd like to have this list.
So far we have these returning characters:
1.Scorpion
2.Sub-Zero
3.Kano
4.Raiden
5. Quan Chi
And so far we have these New Characters:
1.Cassie Cage
2.Kerra-Torr
3.Kotal Kahn
4.Devorah
Goro is confirmed, but only as a pre-order bonus so I don't consider him as a spot taken up on the initial roster.
For the rest of the new characters, I'm hoping to be surprised so I'll leave that up to the guys at Netherealm studios to fill up the rest of the 8 possible new characters rather then wasting time on hoping for concepts of mine to be in the game.
If I could add 7 more characters to the list of familiar faces returning I would add:
1. Shinnok - He was clearly alluded to at the end of MK9 and it would be a shame if he did not make an appearance at all in this game, the idea of a fallen elder god is really cool and I could see interesting choices for his 3 variations.
2. Fujin - If this is a true sequel to MK9, then this is the perfect time for Fujin to make an appearance. With Raiden's actions in the past game I feel that the Elder God's might be less confident in Raiden and would dispatch his brother Fujin to step in as a protector of Earthrealm. If Shinnok is able to repeat his assault on the heavens like he did in MK4, I am confident we will see the God of Wind again.
3. Kai - If all of the former Earthrealm warriors were killed, Kai would be a huge candidate to step in and represent the White Lotus Society. Kai was a character with much potential when he debuted in MK4, but barely made any other appearances. With the confirmed death of Kung Lao and the questionable death of Liu Kang, I feel like Kai would be needed if Raiden is to get help from Earth's warriors again.
4. Reptile - Reptile to me, was a huge dud in MK9, and he only served as a pin cushion in the story mode. This go-around, let us see the Reptile we all pity and love. Show us the conflict he has with being the sole survivor of his race, and why he chooses to work with the bad guys. I can also imagine him having a killer invisibility variation in one of his play styles.
5. Bo'Rai Cho - Bo' Rai Cho was a fun character and with the recent events happening in the Mortal Kombat story, the Earthrealm warriors are going to need the most help they can get. Even though Bo'Rai Cho is of Outworld, I can see him assisting the new Earth warriors in their quest, whatever that quest may be. Hopefully we get more story details. He is the man responsible for teaching Liu Kang the techniques to defeat Shang Tsung, so we can most definitely expect a variation other than his drunken style of fighting.
6. Johnny Cage - Johnny Cage was a fun character to play as in MK9 and he was the one character that shined in the story mode I felt. Plus he is one of the only surviviors from MK9. This go around, I would like to see Johnny Cage included in one of two ways. In the story mode either Johnny Cage or Sonya dies within the first 5 year period of the timeline and it would be cool if the player can decide. If he survivies, I hope to see an older, wiser, but still a bit immature Johnny Cage playing his role in protecting Earth as a senior member in the forces of light and as a leader for the next generation including his daughter, who has a strained bond with him over the death of her mother.
7. Sonya Blade - I feel like Sonya should definitely be in the game as she is Mortal Kombat's first lady, but for dramatic purposes either her or Johnny Cage should be killed, whichever one dies the other should live on. If Sonya lives I want to see her play out like an aged war vet, similar to that of Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. Sonya after loosing everything and having a daughter should be a tough concerned and take no B.S. type of woman. She could play out as a senior member in the next generation of Earthrealm warriors and teachers her daughter everything she knows to fight off the other dimensional threats in MK.
I think Liu Kang should return, but he should be the surprise boss and not on the roster. At the end of the 25 year gap there should be another Mortal Kombat tournament and a god like Liu Kang as the defending champion should be the one to defend his title. This Liu Kang should be completely neutral and against both the elder gods and Raiden. It would be cool if Liu Kang is a conscious part of the One Being and that would be a result of Raiden's tampering with the timeline.
As for the rest of our deceased favorites I think they should all be included as monthly DLC features to increase the replay ability of the game after it's initial release.
