i think midway said something about casting out all the privious characters and make 5 new ones for mk8

I highly doubt 10 characters from MKA will make it to MK8. It'll probably be more likely about 2 or 3 at most.

I would prefer a smaller cast of characters for MK8 so the developers can make say 10 really, really good characters instead of shoving in 50 characters who aren't very interesting to play as.

Hell yeah, Kung Lao MUST be the hero this time, so he can fight evil Liu, and Fujin, so he can fight evil Raiden!!!! Other characters I feel should come back are badass ones, that haven't come out that often, like:
*Reiko; he is my second fav character next to Kung Lao,this guy has such a great story potential, and not much has been revealed about him (part of what makes him so badaaass), he should be Shao Kahn's son, or something, that'd e perfect!
*Kenshi; of all the new characters, Kenshi is by far the best one, best moves and style and all, he's like the only one without moves based on other characters aside fomr Bo' Rai Cho, and that makes him so damn awesome!
*Rain; he's got so much ahead of him, a big story, and i think he should come out...
*Ermac; he is soooo freakin' cool in Deception, and it's too bad he's just a bunch of souls all crammed together, his new story should be about him trying to become one person...
*Noob Saibot; this guy is sooo badass, yet they have srewed him up so badly with his costume and style...he looks more like a joke now, he should come out with the spikes and all...and a black costume, not blue/purpleish...Noob should become Scorpion's new nemesis, since they pretty much killed each/o in life, they should keep doing so in the after-life, like an all-the-way-to-hell grudge match!

If Frost does not return, i'll be even more depressed that i am right now...

These are the characters I think
TAVEN: New protector of Edenia; changes time, and characters and events to his liking so that certain things never happened (basically treating it like a prequel without actually making it a prequel). Re-enacts the MK1 tournament but under his rules.
SHUJINKO: In his young form, his old form annoyed me and we never really got to play as his young form with all that shapeshifting going on. It also allows him to finally participate in the tournament thus achieving his dream.
SHANG TSUNG: In his old form, Taven releases all the souls and returns them to the original bodies. Restoring things to normal but also causing Shang Tsung to grow old rapidly and die. In the Netherealm he forms an alliegence with his old rival Liu Kang in his zombie form. They escape the Netherealm and plan to overthrown the evil alliegence. No longer evil but neutral and in his MK1 form.
REIKO and TREMOR: New ninja characters, to replace Ermac and Rain


RAIN: don't see much of Rain having an interesting storyline, I mean despite having to come back for MK:A he stood out more than the other characters due to the Taven/Daegon thing, but Taven has killed Daegon now and Taven has defeated Blaze so I don't see Rain coming back.

CHAMELEON: Again like Rain he was brought in for MK:A just to complete the rooser, this guy has never had a proper storyline and I doubt he will have one in the future. He is mostly a joke character.

NOOB SAIBOT: I hope his ending comes true, by this I mean having him and his sub zero self merge. Perhaps they could introduce this new character but use the Havik design seen in the Deception Krypt, seeing as though Havik was originally a bonus costume for Noob.

TAVEN: Being the new protector of Edenia, I highly see this character returning for future installments with a very important role.

DAEGON: Unlikely, at least for a while...

ARGUS: Elder Gods rarely participate in the kombat itself, in fact never, they act as a third party. The only one I can think of is Shinnok but he banished so it doesn't count as he simply became a regular god.

SAREENA: I have no comment about her as I was never interested in the character.

DELIA: I am highly interested in her outcome seeing as though Argus became an Elder God and her fate is unknown... so I hope she returns.

ORIN: Seeing as though Caro was killed but Orin was only injured, I very much hope he will still aid the Edenia protector Taven in future games.

MEAT: I wouldn't count on it...

You know after looking at the bios of Nitara and Ashrah, I am going to be pissed if they are not in MK8.

My list and 2 cents......

Boons already said Sub-Zero and Scorpion are Iconic characters that should be a part of the next game.. so I'll ad them to my roster...

Sub-Zero- Needs to be in the game

Scorpion- Needs to be in the game

Shang Tsung- hes the shredder of the series, hes always been a baddie.
I think it would be interesting after having been defeated so
many times that he has been reduced to his Demonic form,
atleast as an alternate. That would be interesting visually,
and story wise would explain why hes still trying to get more
power.

Kung Lao- Hes Liu Kangs replacement. Kung Lao is the leader of the
forces of light. No matter what the situation, he wouldnt rest
until evil was vanquished, unless of course he died during
armageddon. So it makes sense that he would be involved in
the story.

Smoke- I know many people will agree and many people will wanna flame
me. Smokes story line has gone unresolved for several games
now. Its time for him to break free of the nanotechnology, and be
the character the majority of the fans want him to be. With
Sub-Zero in the game, its possible that he helped restore him to
his human form. Assuming Tavens Konquest is Legit, he helped
Sub-Zero defeat Noob Saibot, which could have saved Smoke
From Noob's Control. Smoke was once Lin Kuei, and Sub-Zero
does need a wingman for the new clan. Some will say smoke is a
waste of a character, but hes also a fan favorite so I think he could
fit into MK8.

Taven- Assuming Taven's Story and ending is canon, he promises he will
fight to help prevent armageddon for as long as he can. I know this
doesn't PROVE he will be in MK8, but it does mean that there is a
good chance that he will be. He has potential.

Jade- It seems as tho the next game will in large, take place in edenia,
therefore, it makes sense of the hottest badass edenian to be in the
game. Jade is always tryin to save and protect edenia, which gives
her a chance to be in MK8.

Khameleon- She's another fan favorite. Reptile has kind of gotten stale as
of late, and what would an MK game be without one of their
race?! Placing her in the game instead of reptile could
appease both reptile and khameleon fans alike, as well as go
into more detail about her story. I think she has alot of
potential.

Theres my list, critique, nitpick it all you like. There are other characters that could fit in as well, but Im tired of the whole quan chi, shinnok, Onaga, Shao Kahn backstory. Bring on something new! :)~

If he's not in it, I'd like to see Liu Kang (my sec. fav--but not vital) and a son/daughter of Cage and Sonya.

Seriously, though, I'm through with MK, anyway, and the above is the only way I'll buy the game. Sad as hell, but true--I care more about one character than the series. I don't play games very often anymore, and I simply refuse to make time for another Reject's Revenge (a.k.a. that reject filled yet MKO-member-loved roster that was Deception) and won't be interested in new characters, either.

Midway has already proven they suck at making new characters. Really, they should just resign and hand the franchise over to someone who actually cares about it.

I hope midway would be careful in wiping the slate clean........they might regret who they're going to cut. anyway i have another new roster again...... for some reason i can't make up my mind.

well here it is:

Scorpion- Well duh.....................why would they cut Scorpion?? Unless they're crazy............still don't like him though

Sub-Zero- Another obvious duh...........but unlike Scorpion, Subby's my favorite.

Ermac- He's my 2nd favorite ninja. He just went from a complete and total joke(ninja) in UMK3 to one of the best characters ever made in Deception. Im glad they didn't screw this one up.

Noob Saibot- Ok for some reason, think he'll return. He's been part of every major game in the series main or sidegame, playable or secret ever since his debut(As Noob not Sub-Zero) MK2, MK3, MK4, MKTE, MKD, MKA whick means boon really likes him.

Sektor- I think he'll make a pretty good threat to the Special Forces so that's probably a good thing for Sektor. He's the only cyborg who should probably return as of now.(depends on his bio in armageddon)

Dairou- For some reason, i think Dai should returm. He's not one of the better new characters but he can go many ways with his storyline. I just want him to kill the worst character ever created(Darrius).

Reiko- Well, sucked in MK4 but vastly improved on the way. He can actually be the next ruler of Outworld. I just hope he returns.

Fujin- Can a god actually die??? I really doubt that they can so Fujin would probably be in the next game. He can a start a feud with Raiden. I like him because he uses wind and i really want someone in the game to be able to use another element. + he doesn't use fire im sick of people who keep on using fire.

Hotaru- We need someone in the Orderrealm + he turned out to be one of the better new characters in Deception once I put more consideration in what's good and bad.

Johnny Cage- I still hate him but as far as story goes, it's actually nice that it wasn't jokey like before and he finally stepped up as a leader so that's a good thing.

Kenshi- THE BEST NEW CHARACTER MADE. he's a good guy but not the typical one. He's not the i wanna fight for good guy like Nightwolf, Kai or Stryker and that's what's so unique about him. He has a good costume, good gameplay and overall a good story. SO he's definitely a SHOULD return.

Kung Lao- MAin Hero?????? or Mentor?????? Either way Kung Lao should return. He's way better than Liu Kang and he has a cool hat. I'd like to see him more as the main hero and not just some sidekick.

Raiden- He's too popular.........................plus he controls lightning.I can't see him not returning. He's just too good plus his storyline is so flexible.

Sonya- Special Forces duh! No Sonya......no SF and The Special Forces has been part of the game for quite a long time now. Plus Sonya is Boons favorite.

Kitana- Like I said before, i don't want her retiring since her steel fans are just way TOO original. She's definitely one of the most popular females in MK. She could be a queen but it's just too boring if it just stays at that. So don't be queen.

Jade- She has the most potential out of all the Mk characters you could actually do a lot with her. but please if she DOES return(She should), no Kitana version 2.0. I'd hate it when that happens. + she's the hottest MK character.

Nitara- After reading her bio, she just went from plain vampire chick to awesome vampire chick. It'll suck if she doesn't return.

Sareena- Ok she's capable of returning for two sole reasons: She's popular and she has a great bio. She's definintely a should return.

Havik- Ahhhhhhhhh Chaosrealm. He's just too freaky and cool to cut. He's a very unique character plus he only has one goal in life: to create havoc and chaos which is so cool.

That's 19 I don't think that's too many since the total number of characters are like 63 so i dunno maybe get rid of about 4 of them but for me this is a good enough roster.

Unsure:

They might destroy other people's stories if they return so i really don't know if they should return. Plus I already put too many characters in my Dream Roster which means it'll be too much if i added them.

Someone above stated that they would only carry over 2 or 3 at most, and he is right.

I wouldn't read TOO much into the wiping the slate clean, especially given some of the bios that've been released so far. Although Boon and co. want as much newness as possible, even with the characters, that doesn't mean that close to all of the characters will be gone. I would hope 15-20 characters make it back, but not all at once of course.

But people are naming characters they want back for MK8, and the guy a few posts above posted 19 people he wanted back for MK8. That is too much for one game. I wouldn't mind if 15 people came back over time, maybe, and that's a big maybe, but not all at once.
