Most returning mortal characters should age, except for Liu Kang.
Hi folks, I was reading a post on this website about a translation of an interview with Ed Boon in german about having Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya return with different variations of them which shows them aging.
I have an issue with this because of the fact that Liu Kang is the Mortal Kombat champion. I was growing up on the belief that the reigning Mortal Kombat champion does not age until he is defeated in Mortal Kombat, this explains how the Great Kung Lao was still relatively young looking when he faced Goro 500 years before the Mortal Kombat tournament we played in during the first game.
Mortal Kombat is held every new generation, coincidentally a generation spans about 25 years which is about the same amount of time given to tell the story of MKX.
Although Liu Kang was severely burned and questionably perished from the injuries he suffered from Raiden, he is still the current reigning champion of Mortal Kombat and since this is a tournament that is held in honor of the Elder Gods, I believe they are going to intervene and preserve Liu Kang for the next tournament.
A lot of people are speculating that Liu Kang just may be the boss of this game, and I am in concurrence with that theory. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce the new generation when he have a group of young dogs take on the older dogs, and if this means we may no longer see some of our old favorites again, this game could be an opportunity to give those "Klassics" a proper farewell. One way of which is having a new warrior take the title away from Liu Kang.

unfortunately, this could have been retconned.
or maybe he lost it because he died
or maybe he lost it because he died
If he did die, which I'm about 95% sure he did, I feel that the Elder Gods would step in on behalf of Liu Kang due to the fact that Raiden was acting outside his limitations in being the protector of Earthrealm by meddling with worldly affairs and directly changing the course of history.
This still can't explain Liu Kang's apparent death in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, but I feel that given the unique circumstances that occurred in MK (2011) the elder gods are going to be against Raiden and resurrect Liu Kang.

Well Deception story mode stated the mortal kombat tournament is held every 50 years. If you do the math it works within the 500 years between Goro killing Great Kung Lao and Liu kang beating both, Goro and Shang Tsung.
I agree that the Champion is allowed to retain his youth in order to defend his championship. The Elder God's refused to step in, in, Deadly Alliance which made Raiden give up his elder god position and return to earth.
If Liu died in 9 the elder if they wanted could resurrect him. Unless they don't give a crap lol

One problem with the very first sentence of your post is that only the first game's tournament followed that rule. MK2 happened almost immediately following the first tournament and MK3 wasn't much later.

That's not true because when the Great Kung Lao defeated Shang Tsung he was in his 20/30 and his age was pretty much the same when he lost to Goro 50 years later.

@mos3ph....
Mk2 and mk3 weren't official tournaments. Liu had to defend his title when, outworld forced them and, mk3 was an invasion not a tournament. Mk2 never had a tournament either there hasn't been a tournament since mk1
