Point is that Leatherface, Jason and Predators are icons of the 80's but that's pretty much that.
Every other trial to bring back those characters in the 2000s was a fiasco.
Predators is the worst out of the three movies, both in terms of quality and commercial success.
The remake of Friday the 13th was a flop, as well the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Heck, even the last Nightmare movie was a bomb.

Alien is pretty much the same thing, although the recent hit of Alien Isolation could call interest to younger audience.

Predator and Alien, one versus the other is an interesting idea, but Leatherface and Jason?

Are we sure they are the popularity boost MK needs?

Just ask a guy in his 15s or early 20s who is Leatherface without googling it, and let me know the answer.

Texas Chainsaw 3D and the ANOES remake did suck, but FTth13 2009 wasn't bad. Regardless of quality and opinion of the films, they were all 3 were considered successes due to the money they made.

Just to tack on to that- Friday The 13th (2009) is the SECOND highest grossing film in the entire 12 film franchise, only topped by Freddy Vs Jason (2003).

A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) is the highest grossing film in the entire Nightmare franchise.

We may not be getting new entries as frequently as in the 80s but when we do they're always powerhouses when it comes to the box office.

Let's be clear: a film's performance at the box office is *not* an indication of whether it's any good.

Neither is a film critics review or how many "awards" it wins

Um...nobody was saying that. Nightmare (2010) despite being the highest grossing film in the entire franchise was blasted and received horrible reviews which factors into why New Line has chose to wait a while before doing a new one.

I brought up box office to show that neither of those films were "flops" and that Jason and Freddy do have footing with modern audiences and still get asses into seats. Texas Chainsaw 3D wasn't nearly as successful but it made its budget back at least and provided enough motivation for another entry. Quality of the films were questionable but their audiences are bigger than ever. They're horror icons for a reason.

To say that Predator was a bad movie or didn't do well or whatever the case may be, it does not take away anything from it's position in the 80s. Everybody knows it! The movie is iconic, Schwarzenegger's lines from that movie have been re-hashed almost as much as the ones from Terminator. I do however agree that teenagers now do not know Predator or any other of the 4. Maybe Jason.

So we should ask ourselves: which audience are they catering to? We all know that Jason & Predator are characters Boon and the team wanted to do for ages, so that is personal. They are very well known by the people born in the 70s-mid 80s. Ironically, these are probably the same people who grew up with the franchise and know it very well. By putting in so many old characters, you would think that they already have that group covered.

So again, who are they doing these DLC for? WB trying to push their new editions of these movies? Leatherface is not iconic at all in my opinion, I have never heard of him before this game. I know the title of the movie he appears in, but that's it. He's a weird choice whichever way you look at it. Alien is quite new so I guess most generations have a chance to know him. Predator vs. Alien of course made that DLC highly likely. Still, I wonder what the idea behind these 4 is and why they are pushing so strong for freaking horror movies.

Maybe because they're simply horror fans? Not that hard to deduce.

And the Alien franchise is older than both Friday The 13th AND Nightmare. Me and several of my generation weren't born in the 70s or 80s and yet we were also raised on those films. So it's not an "age" thing. And once again- WB doesn't own the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film series so there's no TCM film for them to push. And Paramount currently controls future Friday The 13th films so there's no movie for WB to push there either. It all comes down to WB demanding guests and NRS being horror junkies- not much deeper than that.

Good God, you can smell the stinch of WB on this cover.
I can't help but to feel like they wanted to replace Sub-Zero's big face with Predator's, but said "fuck it", to avoid looking that obvious.
The box art is perfect!

Wow that cover is horrible

No matter how hard I try I just can't bring myself to like the guest characters. On the bright side Tri Borg looks awesome and hopefully Bo Rai Cho will be awesome as well.

True, and neither do reviews or awards or any of that but a film's performance at the box office usually does determine whether or not the film was a success, at least financially.

No idea if anybody cares, but Ed has confirmed that all characters will be coming on march 1.

Just in case some weren't sure on how NR was handling the characters. I'm sure all you guys know this.
