If they don't show them: "OMG they don't care about them!"
It's a no win scenario for them. As is the case with many things about he game. People love to judge, blame, and condemn them, but trying to make everyone happy is no easy task, and to actually do it is impossible.
Roster (returnees vs. new vs. 3D era)
Story direction (retelling vs. sequel vs. prequel vs. reboot)
Character focus (new vs. MK1-3 vs. MK4-MKA)
Marketing (more vs. less)
Female amount (more vs. less)
Sexualization (extreme vs. subtle)
Tone (violent/dark vs. funny/light)
Those are just a few...

They obviously skipped it because that was the more popular era. But as far as those characters go, the problem now with this game as a collective fanbase I feel is that with all the confirmed, shown and rumored, there's hardly any spaces left and here's my dilemma. I want some of those 3D era characters to make it, but more importantly I want the roster to feel complete, I want it to feel even in terms of all the different players in the context of the story. In my eyes, at least at the moment based on what we know and what is hinted, the roster is very uneven. For example, in story mode, are we ONLY going to fight Mileena whenever her "army" is involved in the story since literally no one involved with her is in the roster? No Reiko, no Rain, no Baraka... That doesn't really make sense from a story-telling perspective given the way they handled their campaigns with MK9 and Injustice.
On top of that, I don't really think there is enough diversity in this roster between the good, neutral and evil spectrum and seeing as the Outworld Civil War is a supposedly a MAJOR component of the story, the roster is incredibly one sided when it comes to who all is involved with Kotal have 5 allies and Mileena having....well, herself. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong. If not, maybe the mobile version will get some extra characters to help even things out. As long as the roster feels even and complete, it doesn't really matter to me who is included in it, you know?

Peeps might be reading a little too much into the "no 3D games shown" thing. The whole thrust of the trailer is that MK has reached a new milestone by coming to mobile devices, just as the "console era" was a milestone from the arcades.
MK is Born >>> Console Era
MK is Reborn >>> Mobile Era
If they did make a decisive effort to leave those games out, it's probably because MK4 looked like crap graphically and the 3D games have a completely different style. It would not have looked like a smooth transition from Then to Now, from the Classic Era to the New Era.
Of course it certainly was not, in truth, a smooth transition through the 3D games. But for marketing purposes, they might as well create the illusion that it was.

MK4 did not look like crap at all. I agree with the rest, though.

For reference MK9 sold six million copies. I think a conservative estimate is that MKX will set to match that but realistically I think much more. MKX is receiving much more attention than MK9 did.
I do not think it will be their cash cow but I expect strong post launch support with more content. Warner Brothers also have Batman: Arkham Knight, coming out in June, which is probably their number one game in their library. That game is expected to be amazing.

MK9 is the best selling game in the franchise and it sold more then MK1 which sold six million copies. So by inference MK9 sold more than six million copies.

This is the part that pisses me off. I wouldn't give two shits if they were totally exclusive to mobile but having to play another game I don't even want to play to unlock shit on the game I actually want to play annoys me.
Hopefully people will just share their WBIDs like they did with Injustice.

This would piss me off more than anything else. I don't care about unlocking them one way or the other (Because that's what it would be an earlier unlock)
Exclusive costumes only on the mobile app that aren't available to the main game as well?
Hell No. I hate that shit.
Arkham Origins had that cool Gotham By Gaslight and Batman Beyond skin that never came to consoles (along with cooler shit that should've been in)
Injustice had the same for Batman Returns Catwoman. Would've bought the shit out of Injustice for having that one thing but nope.

To me that seems like the best evidence we have that those characters will be in, until we have more trustworthy information to go on than those supposed leaks.

Idk im not big on mobile games so if it wasn't for having to play them to unlock costumes on the actual game I would never touch them, hell I probably wont touch this one either, ill just do what I did for Injustice and use somebody else's WBID to unlock the Mobile costumes.
Finding one that works can be a bitch though, and they might make it so we cant do that this time around, in which case ill be even more pissed off since ill have to actually play the mobile game lol

It'll be mk on the go. I couldn't get into immortals but I played injustice for quite a while. As far as Mortal Kombat is concerned. It's Mortal Kombat. That's all the motivation I need lol. I went and bought a new system Friday to prepare for mkx. I've again mk sells a console for me. I just couldn't play it on the older generation.
I can't say I mind having to pay both games to unlock costumes and other miscellaneous things. I just don't like the fact that for those people that don't have an android or iPhone will probably suffer. I doubt it's coming to Windows phone and that's a shame. Then there's the people without smart phones in general. :/

Yes Arkham is going to sell well and probably get game of the year. Batman just kicks ass. But MK9 made about $360,000,000 without calculating DLC and special edition versions. And we all expect MKX to do better because why exactly? Better marketing? Strengthened Social Media(I see MK sponsored vids on Facebook and it trends on Twitter)? I don't have Cable anymore so I'm not sure if there has been any commercials. Now we have a smart phone game coming soon. I'd like to know how many have already preordered the game. I think MKX has a chance to beat MK9s numbers by a million or so.

I'm not a fan either but unfortunately mobile games are growing in market share in the gaming industry and probably will continue to do so. I don't like it but that is the trend and I guess it is unavoidable with how everyone plays around on their phones all the time now anyway.

This brings up another point: that mobile games have drawn so much attention that giving the phone drones a taste of MKX for free might encourage some of them to go ahead and grab the full version. Remember, they're not really making money off of a free game -- it's an advertising platform. The cross-over unlockables might even be their way of saying, "Hey, if you liked this game, buy the console version and you'll get some free costumes!"
Here's a questiion. I never played the Injustice game so I'm not familiar with the battle system, but it sounds like MKX will be similar. Does it seem like the kind of system where they can somehow implement the Brutalities, by having certain win conditions?
I know most of you will be playing the game on Xbox One or PS4, but those of us who haven't upgraded only have the Mobile game to look forward to. I for one am going to master MKX Mobile and earn everything I can (hopefully not spend to much money!!!!!) before June 30th and the release of MKX on PS3 and 360. It better not be a money grabber like Marvel Champions!

I believe they showed it during the mobile trailer.
You just have to swipe or click things at the right moment while performing a fatality.
