I'm curious, where exactly is Cyrax in this video? Someone said they saw Cyrax and seeing as he's my fav. I was just wondering it it's for sure him.
Also, I think who's fighting on the bridge is just random for each fight, because for sure in one scene one of them is Kenshi, but then another it looks as if the person is wearing a long red jacket or robe of some sort. So it has to be different people.

When Kung Lao wipes the blood off his hat, at the end, we can see Kira chained up to his right, but there a woman lying down near the throne... who is she ? Sareena ? Li Mei ? The almost absent clothing she wears looks yellow, could it be Tanya ?

Li Mei is chained up as well on the other side of the throne. I don't know who the girl by the throne is. Could just be random harem girl. Hard to tell.

I think its safe to say its obviously some kind of remake.
My guess is that its a remake of Mortal Kombats 1-3 with a new story to incorporate characters from later games. I just hope that they add a lot of new characters in there as well instead of just throwing all old ones in.

I'm calling it: Armageddon was a total bust, the warriors grouped together to defeat Blaze, all went back to normal and a new tournament was created to restore balance to the realms.
Besides Kira, it also seems Kenshi is at the back of the pit. You can see his white sash.

Holy shit, this is fucking amazing. It looks like they somehow turned the way the characters move and fight in Shaolin Monks into a 2D fighter. I even saw some sort of tag-team mechanic where Nightwolf switched out for Johnny.
The MK1-3 characters/costumes and stages...and then all of a sudden there's Kira chained up in Kahn's Arena is kinda weird though. What the hell could the plot of this thing be?

I don't think so. The more I think about this (Raiden isn't dark lolwut?) and that casting sheet that was released, the more I think this really is an MK 1-3 remake and those cameos in the background like Kira are just easter eggs. I didn't think there was any way they had enough time to make a roster that big in just two years, but...well, here we are and this time there's no second studio to ask for Okays from stopping them from putting out DLC.

It'll probably be like the Prison stage in Deception where random characters from previous games will be chained up.
Gameplay looks good. Atmosphere is nice. Roster, thus far, is unimpressive. Looks like a lot of regression, if not the reboot people claim it'll be.
I'm indifferent, bordering on disdain.

I think you may well be right. I imagine the standing chained characters are designed to be changeable, so if Kira is fighting on the stage say, she isn't in the background as well.

Even if the story does cover the first 3 games, I'd be surprised to see non-essentials like Sheeva and Stryker.
Then again, Stryker is like the Dan of MK, so that alone may get him entrance.

I think my comparison to Shaolin Monks gameplay-wise may be slightly off. I'm actually seeing a lot of mechanics that remind me of the MK vs DCU engine when I rewatch it.
Also something to consider: The only character who was in MK vs DCU here who's shown in gameplay is Sub-Zero. Everyone else shown is a character who wasn't but were on the top of the wishlist. Reptile, Mileena, Johnny, and Kung Lao. Oh, plus Sektor and Nightwolf for the "MK3 is in it too" factor.

if it has every character from MK1-3, I will be even more excited. It's very doable when you think about it. Plus DLC, which is gonna be sweet with this game! This definitely looks like the competitive addicting game that can finally put UMK3 on the backburner for years as my go to MK game.
Alllllllright.
To be honest, personally I am disappointed, but for certain, this is so far the most stylish Mortal Kombat I have seen. I have rewatched the trailer time to time, so.... let's not beat around the bushes:
CONS:
The moment I saw Shao Kahn and Raiden preparing to duke it out it spellt SEEN IT ALREADY to me. It did not help that they could not take any creative liberties, and all the constumes look like minorly updated but essentially the same costumes seen previously.
2D fighting.
Then the characters came popping up. Cage, Subs, Raiden, Kahn, Nightwolf, Sektor (ughhhh), etc... so, basically this will in soul be what we have been dealing with since Trilogy. Wonderful, truly innovative.
The backgrounds. They are marking stones that is for sure, but Dead Pool, Arena, Tower get's to me only after so many times. It is almost like they fired the creative control section and are remaking the same game....
The implications of seeing the characters from MK4-MKA era. I dread what the canon has been malformed into. If this is some sort of Final Crysis I might as well bleach my brain with an equal mixture of oxycodone and oil.
Kira tied up to Kahn's bench-throne and the other, whom I trademark LEG FEMALE.... mythology gag, okay... too little too late.
A forlorn dream, but no martial arts styles.
The brutality is mind bogglingly numb. This looks like again, as a cartoon from what we have seen. No real grit.
PROS:
Kira tied up to the bench-throne with LEG FEMALE. Awesome!
The gameplay looks more fluid than Armageddon and it looks like MK vs DC. Which is a major positive step into the right direction. Also, they finally managed to pull off made up fantastic moves that managed to impress me. Which is not a feat to be underestimated.
The Special moves have varieties, notice how Cage can do the ballistic Shadow Bolt from MK2 and immediately follow up with the same (reversed animation) from Mk1 which travels in the straight line. This spills good for the nostalgic and can bring strategic fighting again. With projectiles.....well, not a fan, but it is definitely positive as a change of gameplay.
They fuckin' brought back Shang Tsung's throne room as a stage. Friggin' A people, friggin' A. That was the best stage ever.
Styles are back: albeit in show only. Johnny Cage uses his Jeet Kune Do stance from MKDA. I always thought JKD fit Cage more, as Kang is too much of a bother and obvious choice for Lee's fighting style of no style.
Tag team matches. Also an excellent choice.
So far the feature I liked best is the X-ray shock trauma mode. Or whatever that was. Ever since I was subjected to anatomy I loved those, and after reading the excellent and realistic manga Shigurui, I immediately got hooked.
VERDICT:
The verdict is hard. This -as a matter of fact- looks like the best step so far in making MK playable while retaining it's roots. Also it might look like a reboot of the timeline, hell, with Kira there an alternate timeline that expands upon the characters, makes -sorry, tries to make- the plot coherent again....
...all little too late. While it looks stunning, it looks like it has gameplay that is stunning.... this comes way late. It is nothing more than a rehearsing of the same old stuff visually at glance.
Since we have no story on what exactly happens there, how characters are affected... I am still holding out on what the writers came up with. Waiting and I will read it once it gets out. Perhaps I will play it and there is a chance I might like it as a game.
But this is not the MK I would need. This is same old same-old. Tired, too conformist, catering to the nostalgia factor up to eleven. I fear that this will also consolidate the fandom into what it does today. Which is rehearsing, and -fuck it, discover it for yourself otakudom. If this Mortal Kombat is what the future design looks like, I am not really interested.
But as a game, if functional and highly replayable becouse of sheer functionality and ease, it succeeds, than by all means, this will be a good Mortal Kombat.
There was no Scorpion....

You can make out in the HD version that the two fighting in the background of Pit II aren't Blaze and Hornbuckle.
They're Reiko and Daegon.
