I meant to put him in there but forgot. i believe the reason people don't take MK's storyline seriously anymore is because everyone comes back to life, they should remain dead with the exception of Sub so fans won't complain.

As for the MK10 roster. Nitare Kenshi Tanya Fujin Shinnok Bo Rai Cho Reiko Li Mei Drahmin Ashrah Havik Should all be introduced. Off course Scorpion, Raiden, Sonya and Johnny Cage too. I just wish Forst won't be replacement for Sub Zero. Having her take the spot but with Sub introduced? Maybe.

I was kind of disappointed that they let out some of my favorite characters in MK2011, but I guess they were saving them for later games. The MK2011 worked out great with its roster, and I am going to be really surprised as to how they're going to bring back all the deceased characters.

Here is my list of who I want and in which affiliations I want them to be in (good, bad and neutral)

Evil: Shinnok, Quan Chi, Drahmin and Moloch, Sektor, Sindel, Baraka, Mileena, the shokans, Kano, Tanya, Skarlet and Shao Kahn. Yes, Shao Kahn. Come on, we all know the crafty emperor will make an appearance one way or another.

Neutral: Scorpion, Ermac, Reptile, Nitara, Cyrax, Liu Kang, Noob Saibot, Havik, Hotaru, Sareena, Jatakka, Kia, Tremor, Dairou, Rain, Kabal, Kira and Kobra.

Okay, so from my understanding of MK9's storymode... here are the characters that have literally DIED (rather than just stimply lost a battle)



I see no need to explain the orange highlighted characters... because they were clearly defeated and seen in the Netherrealm.
Correct me if I'm wrong about the red, though:

Liu Kang - Raiden fried his ass
Sub-Zero - Scorpion killed him / Turned into Cyber Sub-Zero
Noob Saibot - It would appear as though he was torn apart by the Soulnado
Shang Tsung - Shao Kahn sucked the life out of him.
Shao Kahn - Destroyed by Raiden and the Elder Gods... or it would appear.
Motaro - Raiden kills him on the Bridge
Kratos - trash
Freddy - trash

So here are just the survivors... and the "rumored" characters



Assuming that MK10 will retell the story of Shinnok's war on the Heavens and Earthrealm (and now Outworld)... This is how I believe it would affect the MK4 / MKG character roster:



Jarek, being a complete knock-off of Kano... I assume this time they'd ignore Jarek's existence. Afterall, Kano was just left frozen by Cyber Sub-Zero. Not necessarily killed.

So with what we have surviving from MK9, here's what I think we could fill in from MK4/MKG



That leaves us with quite a few question marks...

Since we see some of the survivors in the Netherrealm, and we know in Mortal Kombat no one REALLY dies... maybe the captured souls would be our future DLC? Or just secret characters to unlock?

We know that MK10 has to have a roster equal to or more than (even by a few) the roster from MK9

Here's what I predict



Kitana, Kung Lao, Jax, Liu Kang, and Sub-Zero are among the trapped souls in the Netherrealm. They might be DLC or unlockable characters.

Sareena - One of Quan Chi's assassins and a fan favorite.

Noob Saibot - Come on... he can't REALLY be dead! He is a bad ass and one of Quan Chi's go getters.

Bo Rai Cho - mentioned quite a few times in MK9. With his finest student dead (Liu Kang) I'm sure he wants to help Earthrealm out.

Frost- Mentioned in Cyber Sub-Zero's heads-up display during story mode when he scans Kabal for known targets (or something like that). She's mentioned for a reason or just an easter egg. With the Lin Kuei most likely disbanded... she's going to fight Sektor for the right to the Grand Master Title. Maybe even help Cyber Sub-Zero regain his soul and former body? Cyrax is probably just going to leave the LK all together and join the Special Forces like in the past stories.

Havik - Mentioned in Noob Saibot's ending. Maybe the Netherrealm will use help from that realm?

Hotaru - If we have Chaos, why not Order? Perhaps Raiden turns to the Order Realm to help fight off the inevitable chaos brought upon Shinnok's war.

Mavado - because Kano is still out there, and Kabal is missing. Our other hooksword guy. If not him, then maybe just bring back Kabal from the Netherrealm / possible DLC? I still think Mavado has a very decent fan base and potential to be even better than he was in Deadly Alliance.

Kia and Jataaka - the two other assassins for Quan Chi. They are both not very well known but spark fan interest. They were only seen in MKM:SZ and MKA's konquest mode. It's about time we see their character potential.

Rain - With Sindel and Kitana gone... he has his chance to claim his throne of Edenia and defend it against the Netherrealm.

Kenshi - I can't find a justification for him now that Shang Tsung is dead. Maybe he goes to join the Special Forces to help out Sonya like in the past story line? Perhaps he wants to free Jax?

Skarlett - I can't find a justification for her since her master is gone.

Lady In Purple - who knows?

Lady in Green - from Jade's ending... who knows?

Tremor - Because fans have been crying for this guy for a while now. Maybe he will help out Kano fight off the Red Dragon? Or maybe his Lin Kuei roots will come in light?

Drahmin and Moloch - with the Netherrealm's forces attacking... why not our two favorite onis? It'd be nice to see them back. Goro will have his match when it comes to fighting Moloch.

AH yes, the pool of characters to have chosen from:



Taven and Daegon - have no real purpose in MK. Fuck Armageddon and everything it stands for.

Chameleon and Khameleon - no REAL potential here... the only potential Chameleon has is being a easter egg alternate costume for Reptile. I can't see them having their OWN UNIQUE move set.

Hsu Hao - Hsu Hao was just too god damn ugly and lame to bring back... a disgusting mistake.

Nitara... maybe she would be a nice DLC? Or not... what does she have to do with the Netherrealm's war? Nothing...

Li Mei - No purpose because she was only brought in through the Deadly Alliance's tournament. She's from Outworld who wanted to free her village.

Blaze - To hell with him.

Dairou, Darrius, Shujinko, Kobra, Ashrah, Kira, Onaga - I don't need to explain why any of them don't serve a purpose in MK10...

Jarek - Like I said, a complete Kano rip off. He wasn't even that impressive in MKA. We should pretend he never happened.

Mavado was a Kabal replacement more or less, so no. Sareena could be expanded more, so maybe. Kai seemed like an alternate Lui Kang and Ashrah felt like an alternate Raiden, so not really interested. Skarlet was awesome in the last game, so I'm down with that. Bo Rai Cho was a favorite of mine. I'd like to see Havik also.

I think instead of rehash some of the less popular characters who were alternate versions/replacements, they need to focus on at least five or so new characters.

Firstly I refer you to the answer i gave in the other thread 'What do YOU want in MK10?"

The characters listed are all the new chars from MK4 and DA (since that's the next chapter of story coming up, and we know these chars were about doing things at this time, i.e. Shinnok & Quan invading, Tanya helping, Fujin trying to stop them, Nitara's recruited Cyrax into looking for her orb, Mavado exterminating BD members etc.) I included into that list the three that seem to be in all if not most MK outings (Scorp, Sub-Z & Raiden) and the 'new' additions Skarlet & Tremor as hopefuls. Any other additions need to be from that timeline also, like Reptile, Sonya & Cage were in both MK4 & DA, so they are probably going to be seen again. This seems like a pretty buff roster, even without the reanimation of zombies (who'll have to be included in story mode, but not necessarily as playable chars)

Shinnok, Scorpion & Quan CHI=> already announced in a informal way.

Reptile, Baraka, Goro, Kintaro, Mileena, etc => wildcards

Then, I might add:

Reiko=> he served SHinnok in the old timeline, I don't see why he cannot comeback.

Kia/Jataaka/Sareena=> one cool character, other two potential cool characters, I'd say put them in with a major role

I think is fair to say that since it looks like its going to be Netherealm vs earth realm, that those goodies thy we saw in the netherrealm will come back as baddies controlled by shinnok,

This is a way to keep those characters playable and introduce new ones from the MK4 onwards era

In terms of story, the only characters I feel must return are:

The first four are for obvious reasons. As for Rain, I feel now that Edenia is under no rule, he should take the opportunity to claim the throne. As for Skarlet, she is now without an influence, so someone has to collect her.

Tanya was Shinnok's ticket into Edenia, so she is a vital to his plans. Also, I feel she is more likely to take over Edenia than Rain. Fujin will have to assist Raiden this time around, because Raiden is too fucked up to make good decisions. As for Meat, now that Shang Tsung is gone, he will make his escape. I feel his inclusion will prove useful to one side or the other, most likely Shinnok's.


Now, Scorpion will obviously be in the game (fucking Boon), so there's guessing there. With that, we should have:

Absolutely NO. Re-read MK4 official comic book, Kuai Liang went back to the Temple of the Elements in order to apologize with the Gods (if they were dead, why bothering?), but when he entered he found them dead already due to Shinnok's attack.

In the same game, MK: Sub-Zero's Mythologies, Sub-Zero killed Fujin too, but he came back regardless. BTW, Gods are immortal, so they reshaped their mortal body somewhere else with no memories of their past.

Now this brings the grand total of characters to a 32 count roster. Since the original Mortal Kombat 2011 only had a 28 character roster, 30+ doesn't seem like it's out of the realm of possibility. DLC is always an option as well.

Combining the MK4 and MKDA character cast makes sense to me for 3 reasons. 1, since Shao Kahn fused Shang Tsung's soul with Sindel then technically MKDA can no longer take place. 2, if the Mortal Kombat 2011 story mode is canon, which I believe that it is, then that only leaves 5 “good guys” left to take on every other villian from the MK universe. Granted MK4 and MKDA only produced a few more heros to pick from but it's a start. And 3, with MKDA impossible now in this new timeline, I feel that this is the best time frame to introduce the MKDA characters.

I do like what blacksaibot said about having the zombie Earthrealm and Outworld fighters that Raiden faced in the Netherealm as part of either DLC or maybe story mode kombatants but this would also throw out the option of creating a zombie version of Shao Kahn and I'm hoping we've finally seen the end of him. I for one am not a fan of killing characters off and then bringing them back.

One thing is for sure though, whoever Boon and the rest of Netherrealm Studios decide to have make the cast cut for Mortal Kombat 2013, we need more heros because they damn near killed of the entire light side in the last game. I think some good fits for this next installment would be some Earthrealm Elemental Gods to come into play. There's limitless options for these characters IMO.

Also, not that she was of any significance, but who was that black chick dressed in purple at Kahn's Arena as Sub-Zero was walking into fight Scorpion? She very well could have been nothing more than an extra but she seemed a little too detailed to just be thrown in the backround to me..
