Although I would LIKE to see some of the 3D era characters make a comeback and get a revamp, in all honesty I won't be disappointed at all if pretty much all of the returning characters are 'core characters'.

I've already seen some people saying this is starting to feel like an MKDA-reunion and to be honest that would not bother me one bit. Those core characters, basically the MK1 cast plus a handful of others from MK2, 3 and 4(Kung Lao, Jax, Quan Chi) and somewhere between 8 and 10 brand new characters would make for a fine game, in my opinion. I would like for the story to progress and for the canon to mean something but first and foremost I just want an awesome game. And so far, these new designs for the classic, core characters are amazing so why not keep them coming?

The quality of these designs and the awesomeness of the variation system have me sold on this game, "same old characters" and all. The progression in the story in terms of time and them aging, the new designs and gameplay elements, and the new characters we are getting are enough for me. I am a happy fan right now. Remember, this is basically the first time in 10 years we are getting a whole new crop of characters. At least it's not another versus game or rehash of Trilogy.

Anyhow, that is my take, fellow kombatants. Mortal Kombat X is not going to be MK's version of 3rd Strike, nor is it going to be like MK9 but revamping all the 3D era characters; and that is okay. I'm sure there are a few others here who feel the same way. wink
As a casual and offline player, I couldn't care less about who will make the cut in the final roster. I don't have any main (and I play like shit), and I'll probably play with everyone to see their endings. I'd only like to see Reiko and Reptile cuz I like them. NRS is doing a great job, I think they can improve any character at this point, even if it's one that people "love to hate".

I just want to see what the MKX story unfolds, regardless of who will appear in it. I bet we'll see a lot of cameos too, so that's good.

I posted the Kung Lao pics and announced that he is in MKX on my Facebook timeline. The reaction from my friends who are all more casual MK fans was basically, "awesome!" across the board. Not even ONE reply of, "ANOTHER 2D character?? ugh!".

Yeah, I think most of casuals won't care about if it's a 2D or 3D era character, they just want to play the game basically. While it can piss some people off, it doesn't bother me at all. I just hope the writers don't create a lot of plot holes in this new storyline.

I'm okay with this ONLY if Reptile is in, and this isn't the last Mortal Kombat.

Oh, and if NRS got their fill of retcons in MK9...

So if MK11 focuses more on these characters then I'm all for it.

Despite Ed's words about it "being hard to continue" after this I am sure this won't be the last MK.

I have all of my fingers and toes crossed that Reptile and Shang Tsung both make it into this game. I'm not too worried though. I have a feeling that we are getting the entire MK1 cast...even Goro, by way of DLC(which yes we already know lol).

I'm just worried we'll have to sit through another crossover, or something completely different before it comes back around. I swear I'm the only person on this planet who never really got into superheroes...

I wouldn't be against a Clay Fighter reboot though, haha. And yes! Shang has always been my favorite villain in the series. It's shaping up to be that way, and if that's the case, we should expect Ermac as well. Even if he was a glitch, he still sprouted from MK1.

Effin' aye. I don't doubt we'll get a few cameos in MKX though. Whether it's in the story mode, or in the endings like MK9.

Not so much Armageddon, but DA and Deception had excellent writing. At least pertaining to the main plots. Some character stories are iffy or bland, but overall, the depth of those main storylines were mind-blowing. MK had never really reached that depth. Until those, MKM:SZ was pretty much the deepest we had gotten into the story. And even that only focused on a handful of characters. And of course I'm referring only to games with those statements. Not the comics, or movies and such.

The 3D/Midway era was absolutely fantastic in terms of story. MKDA is still my favorite MK from a story/character design/ambiance perspective rather than gameplay.

Don't get me started on the gameplay lol.

It's funny to me now though that we ate it up back then.

Indeed we did. Switching between the fighting styles seemed very innovative and fresh after the poor attempt at converting MK into a 3D environment that was MK4/Gold.

I'll agree with that.

As much as I love Fujin, it won't stop me from enjoying the game if he's not there. As much as I think Shinnok deserves a revamp, him not being there isn't the end of the world.

There are still new characters we haven't seen, and I'm sure people will latch on to them immediately. So even if there aren't any 3D era characters, we can still enjoy the new characters.

And really, MKX looks fantastic. Gameplay looks smoother and better than ever, the variations add so much to what characters can do, graphics look top notch, story mode is bound to be interesting, challenge tower is returning, online sounds great with the factions, and of course that new/returning finisher. Look at all these great things MKX has to offer.

If the lack of any 3D era character ruins the game for you, I feel sorry for you. You're missing out.

Honestly I think the new designs of the classic characters are so well done, and the variations add such a fresh, new twist to gameplay that even though they are classic characters it will be like playing them new all over again for the first time. Well maybe not quite but kind of if you know what I mean. gringrin

I agree 100%!

I mean I had hoped Drahmin would get a redemption, but his absence will not not hurt my feelings in the slightest.

The same goes for Cyrax too.

Tbh, even to this day I still think how they went truly authentic with the martial arts was amazing. Maybe not the whole multiple style switching and all (because depending on who you were using, it got very clunky), but even just that authentication added depth to the characters imo.

I'm so ready for April 14th ya'll. This is truly going to be a new MK experience.
