MKX= The Last MK Game? MK11= Another Reboot?

posted03/10/2015 03:15 AM (UTC)byBruskPoetI highly doubt it is but if you think about it, since we have these veteran characters aged, and although it is a very unique addition to the MK world, are they going to keep aging them? Are they going to have them die of old age and kill them off for GOOD? We all like this whole "aging characters" idea but eventually we are going to want our favorite character young again like we remembered them in MK1/MK2/UMK3 so if MK11 is going to farther into the future half of these characters are going to be Shujinko old LOL. So when time comes when NRS realizes that we want our characters to look young again what are they going to do?
They aged because there is a 25 years jump in time. From now on stories will probably occur on the same period, this game was an exception so those aged characters that could still fight in MKX will still be able to fight in future games.
The Tekken series for example had a huge time jump in Tekken 3, most of the classics are now really old (some of them REALLY old and they keep fighting) and others like Anna and Nina were frozen during that period so they didn't age.

Either sequels will take place shortly after MKX, or dead characters will be young when resurrected.

Alternate costumes lol
also they could jsut not do any more time gaps for awhile and it would be fine.
only earthrealm warriors would be aged and the ones that would be would still only be like early 50's. which isn't that old when it comes to trained martial artists

Whether they show up in the story or not, there's no way they're not bringing the classics back here and there in sequels.
That or if they really need to do another reboot (though I doubt that'll be a while if they do, they do something like reveal Shinnok fucked with Raiden's message to the past to make Earthrealm weak for his eventual return and coup. Then they can have one last time travel story where the end has Raiden merge some timelines into one that keeps the most popular elements of all of them de-aging characters.

I think this will be a way to let go of Kano, Johnny, Sonya, Kenshi, and Jax for a little while. The next game will have immortal characters, the children, and characters with long lives.

I dread thinking about the next Mortal Kombat game, if nothing else because of the wait. The cliffhanger ending of MK9 was really grating, and I hope this game has more closure so I can at least appreciate the story for a while instead of immediately thinking about the next game knowing that it's years away at best.
What I see this game is, is a passing of the torch. I think there are so many veterans in with the new fighters to ensure a comfortable transition from old to new, unfamiliar territory. Of course I do not want nor do I expect (or do I?) all the old characters to die. I think some of them will stick around (ahem, Scorpion and Sub-Zero), but a lot of them will retire. I see nothing wrong with a 50 year old Johnny and Sonya retiring and leaving the world-saving to someone else. And they could still always come out of retirement once and a while and appear in more games down the line.
I think my idea of the future MK games are what a lot of people wanted from this game once they saw Cassie Cage. I don't think that would have been a good idea because NRS needs to see how people are going to react to these new characters. And it does seem like the team put a lot of effort into these characters, giving them unique personalities, looks, and gameplay. But even so, trying to accept an entirely new cast is like transitioning from hot to cold; it can't be done abruptly.
So I expect to see fewer returning characters and more new ones in the next few games. I think this will work as long as the old characters are not forgotten (yes, not every one needs to be in every game, but we'll always need a few) and if the new characters really shine (which they REALLY are so far).
I don't think people would react well to another reboot this soon. If they do decide to reboot the series sometime down the line, I hope they make it a real reboot this time and go all the way with the story, giving us everything we want to see, not just Raiden screwing everything up again.

I actually made a thread talking about reboots in the MK series general forum, not saying that's a much better place to talk about this but it's there.

The only reason there was a 25 year gap was because they wanted to usher in the new generation with certain characters offspring there wont be any large gap next game.

All they have to do is make it seem like Raiden had visions of the 25 year period, and restart it back to the end of MK9 so Raiden can warn the others of Shinnok's evil schemes. By doing that, everyone will be young again.

I pitched that idea a while back, with a short concept roster of people who would be involved in the Great Kung Lao era tournament. Folks like the original Takeda and human Drahmin showed up. The itch also presaged the coming of an Aztec-themed warrior, haha.
Someone mentioned that Tekken had some people frozen to stop them from aging. I honestly thought that was going to happen to Kano in MKX, since we never saw him thaw out when Cyber Sub froze him. That would have been great, Kano waking up to having a "brand new world" to fuck with and the original heroes can't stop him because, as Jax would say in this situation, "I'm gettin' too old for this shit."

This is the same type of subject when people want their favorite bands to stop their new direction of music and go back to the days when they first debut.
a.k.a. "my band sucks now, give me my old band back"
And everyone is going to tell you to dig up your old CDs and go listen to them.

When that time comes, seeing as magic, sorcerers, even realms based on Heaven and Hell exist within' the MK universe, yeah..... they'll have no prob coming up with some excuse to be young again.

I think we are all just getting tired of them telling the same story over and over.

To be fair, music ages a whole lot more gracefully than most video games do.

This is also what I've been thinking.
I always liked Johnny, Sonya, Jax, Kitana, etc and I always will. But they do NOT need to be in every game, like Scorpion or Sub-Zero, in my opinion.
Why even act surprised when any of these extremely ikonik kharakters get revealed, at this point?
Kharakters such as Kitana, Raiden, Jax and Sonya were all in the last 2 Mortal Kombat games. Why worry at all about their inklusion in MKX??? LOL
I am just here waiting for WEIRD and RARE kharakters to become konfirmed as playable.... kharakters like TANYA and SHINNOK or FUJIN or KAI???
Once-in-a-lifetime kind of kharakters.... you know?
These are the kind of reveals that would truly be amazing and shocking and fun, at this point in time, if you ask me!!
Guess I'll have to wait for MK11 to play as Tanya, the immortal Edenian, maybe.
In the meantime, I will enjoy playing as Kassandra and Jacqueline, the epik newbies of Mortal Kombat.

The MK team could make prequel games, in the future. They could also make adventure games or racing games kalled "Mortal Kart"... or another Armageddon game... all the kharakters would be inkluded and not old. lol
I don't know. The possibilities are infinite.
