Now it's saying MKX is being built with NeterRealm's modified Unreal Engine 3. That makes sense since the game is releasing on last-gen consoles as well as next-gen.

I was wondering how they were going to run Unreal Engine 4 on last-gen consoles when I heard the announcement. Now it makes sense. Now my mind is pondering how powerful this "modified" Unreal Engine 3 is. Guess we'll see in one week.

Well this is disappointing. How the fuck is this built with any "next gen" experiences in mind when it's all outdated current gen bullshit? I'm afraid this game is gonna look like ass in the visuals department.
IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!
Before anyone assumes anything, let me tell you something. The engine itself is a program, that can be repurposed and outfitted/retrofitted according to the needs of the game.
Sometimes, an engine can be well coded enough to be expanded on. This is the particular case of the SOURCE ENGINE for example.
Do you know that what began with Half-life 2 (well, technically with Vampire: Bloodlines) and continued onwards with such titles as Team Fortress 2 and so on...
STILL HAS THE MOTHERF*CKING QUAKE CODE IN IT!
If you do not know. The original Half-life was basically built on the then used Quake engine (Quake 1 and in the meantime Quake 2 came out). The engine is barely recognizable, Valve basically done some extra work on the Q1 engine and thus, Half-life 1. Half-life 2 was an expansion of the already expanded engine.
WHAT WORKS can be still carried over. So, just because we have new hardware WE DO NOT HAVE TO THROW OUT EXISTING GRAPHICS ENGINES. We just need to reoptimize them.

I was first disappointed that it was being made in Unreal Engine 3, but then I found out Batman Arkham Knight is being made in Unreal Engine 3 also.

Yeah, you guys are talking like Unreal 3 is simply incapable of being "next gen," whatever that abstract term implies. The hardware/resources AND artist design AND programmer efficiency will determine the visual fidelity of the game. Not Unreal 3/4. Unreal is a platform. It's up to the devs to use the platform well.
Batman: Arkham Knight uses Unreal Engine 3 and that is a next gen title only. The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions have to run Unreal Engine 3 but the next gen consoles can use a better engine and Ed Boon did say the game will take advantadge of next gen consoles and has a brand new graphics engine.
I think people are making a bigger deal out of this then they should. Let us see proper gameplay footage and then make judgements.

I trust Ed and I trust WB. LOOK at MK9. In comparison to recent titles, a serious gift from above.
I trust them 100%

Unreal Engine's OWN TWITTER ACCOUNT says MKX is using Unreal Engine 4 whereas this Unreal Engine 3 stuff has randomly just popped up. Guess who I'm believing. Until we get confirmation, I believe this game is using Unreal Engine 4. To me this is either a rumour or someone is getting the wrong message. I don't believe this is real. Unreal Engine 4 all the way.

I stand corrected and I accept that I am wrong. However, I feel like this is a huge mistake and that we'll have to wait until 2019 for a true MK game

Arkham Knight is easily the go-to example for Next-Gen hype. Guess what engine that uses? UE3. It is also Next-Gen Only. This alone proves that cross-gen does not force UE3. It is a developmental choice.
Arkham Knight looks fucking spectacular. People were quoted saying things like "I honestly thought it was a cutscene and couldn't believe it was gameplay". This is UE3.
Sure, NRS and Rocksteady are two separate studios and look how bad Silicon Knights did with Unreal. Too Human was garbage. I have faith in NRS.
Ed ALWAYS talks about his desire to innovate. You know he approached this question with some serious thought. If Ed found a reason to stomach and stick with the MKUE3, I trust him on it.
Sit back and have your mind destroyed at E3. If you think this is going to be bad because of this engine, you are fucking crazy.

I've got full faith, I just hope it's a different modified UE3 than they did with MK9. They basically said they are, I just didn't know MK9 ran off a "modified UE3 engine" like MKX is. New fighting engine though. E3 is going to be heaven.
The reason they are still using UE3 could be this: Click Here

It's not the same engine as MK9 people. NRS have continued to develop their version of Unreal since MK9. Look at Injustice. It was a definite improvement and so too will MKX be.
Stop thinking ignorant things.
