Since the very beginning of my Mortal Kombat fandom as a young boy watching my older cousins play MK3, MK has always been part of my life.

Every time a new MK game was about to be released, I would lurk these forums even if I didn't have an account just to see new updates. It was my favorite part as a gamer, the hype train to a new MK game.

I have been getting older and my love for video games has definitely decreased. As an adult who has a job, relationship etc, I don't have as much time to play video games like I used to.

However, the only game that still manages to catch my attention to this day, just like it used to catch my attention as a child, is definitely Mortal Kombat. I find myself at work during my breaks and lunch, reading new updates/stories about MKX. My love for the MK series is just as strong as it has always been. I'm such a sucker for Mortal Kombat that last year I did this with my badass friends grin :

One of my images was added to MK Kollective glasses. Guess which one I am???

I have noticed that many MKO forum members who I used to see on here regularly are gone. Has there love for MK decreased? Maybe, or maybe not.

So my question to you is, is your love for MK still the same as it used to be? Are you as hyped for MKX as previous titles?

Great post and great costumes.

I feel like I am in the same boat as you as life gets in the way of video games but I will always remain a fan of the MK games and universe. I'm actually trying something different this time around.

For MK9 I tried to watch everything, but for MKX I've skipped the reveal trailers Quan Chi on. I haven't seen anything for a while. I still read the forums every once in a while so I get a good idea of what to expect, but I'm trying to be as fresh as possible for this outing.

Hello yeah I am. I'm as hyped as can be. I've been with MK since MK1 was in an Arcade played all in arcade before consoles. Then bought each game for Super Nintendo....man I feel as old as Raiden just thinking back.

And when the game went 3D u wad there for all 3 chapters man it was fun.

Heck back in high school in woodshop I carved the original Dragon logo on a piece of wood colored red. I'm not sure where it is now. I think wither my mom has it or its lost. Either way, making it was fun.

I was more hyped for MKDeception and Armageddon than I am MKX. Those games I was very excited or curious to see where they were going with the story.

Honestly that MKvsDC announcement crushed my hype for any MK after. I'll follow all the news and will preorder and be there day one. But the game has little to no chance to disappoint me because I have no hype level.

I'm more excited about the comics honestly.

Whenever an MK game rolls around (since MK4) I follow everything leading up to its release. I made the mistake during MK9 of spoiling too much for myself so I'm not going to do that this year.

Sincerely, this looks like the best MK yet. This is the first time they're showing us something really *new* since MK Deception. I couldn't be more hyped. Around these parts especially, I think a lot of people were making a lot of large assumptions about what this game would/should be, so now that they're seeing they spent a whole lot of time and anticipation on nothing in particular they're all feeling the sting of it so it seems like there's less hype. But that's localized among the masochists who get off on complaining.

Honestly, across the internet, I can't remember the last time I saw this much excitement for an MK game. Maybe not ever. By the time MK4 came out and the internet was becoming more ubiquitous a lot of fighting game fans were heading to greener 3D pastures, but MK is surely more relevant now than it's been in a very long time.

No, they just either got themselves banned, got a temporary ban but won't return, or just left due to issues surrounding stuff that happened to them on this site.

However, my hype is still up, so have a bunch of others.

Haven't been this hyped since MKD. The hype for that game along with the secret unlockable rumors were quite something back then lol.

I still have this message in my inbox from 2004 from the user Zynthetic, not sure if he's still around but it's very amusing in hindsight. He's still right though:

"You were right on with that post flaming the idiots who say there's nothing left. Be it or not, it's been little more than a fucking week and these idiots claim they "know" there's nothing left. If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem, right. I've been spending a couple hours a day trying to find anything a little suspicious or interesting. Who cares if there is nothing there anyway? The searching is half the fun of MK. It has been since MK1. It's still a great game nonetheless and anyone who gives up didn't truly get their money's worth out of it."

Hyped doesn't quite describe it. I'm excited for sure. But I wouldn't say it's on the same level as MK2011 or bleh..MK Armageddon/Deception (Fuck you Armageddon)

And that's mostly on me. And not for the reason some might think. It's mainly because ever since MK2011 and watching the fighting game players on youtube, I realized I suck at fighting games and...will never ever be able to play the how they should be. So that's kind of a downer so I can't be super excited for the gameplay and stuff which suck.

But again, I'm still excited for this game.

Haha that's awesome! That game really let everyones imagination run wild. From Konquest to seeing characters running around in the krypt, there were rumors/theories for everything. The whole sense of discovery in Konquest and digging for unlockables is what made the game so memorable to me lol

Thank you!

I remember someone on here spoiled Kitana's death for MK9. I was so annoyed and outraged. So maybe I should learn my lesson and do what you're doing. I want MKX to surprise me and be filed with new content when I first play it. Maybe I will cut down the amount of updates I look into.

I absolutely love the MKX comic! So happy they decided to create them because it enriches the MKX story. However, I am definitely way more excited for MKX than just the comics.

I agree! NRS has bigger bucks nowadays and the media makes everything so accessible which is why MKX will be the biggest MK yet. It is a good time to be a MK fan.

Wait a minute, are you sure you can't just practice and kick ass? I wasn't the best fighter in the 3D games because they were very difficult for me to master. However, in MKvsDCU and MK9, I finally got the grasp and really mastered the skill. My Kitana for both games was (don't play anymore so prob rusty) unstoppable. I am confident that with practice I will master MKX Kitana and will handle a lot of ppl online. I even want to look into local tournaments around my area here in SoCal.

I feel the same way! Video games don't really get me excited anymore. However, MK still dominates my emotions haha. I find myself at work checking for updates. I just can't get enough of MK. I genuinely love the series.

Hype is going strong. I'll be busy playing MKD, Shaolin Monks and MKA after it arrives for PS2. 3 pkg for like $20 plus shipping. Not a bad deal for an amount of almost $30 including shipping. That is just to hold off the wait for MKX.

I am still a pretty serious gamer. Even mow as an adult with a house, wife and a baby. I still find time for gaming. Perhaps not as much time as i used to due to responsibilities but I still love gaming as a hobby just as I did when I was a kid.

All that being said there is something about MK which gets me more hyped and more nostalgic then any other franchise. I have been an MK fan since MK2 when I played it with my brother as a kid. Then continued with MK3 and every other entry since. I have always been attatched to the story and characters unlike any other series. MKX has my hyped now more then most past titles with the exception of MKA

I know exactly what you mean. Every time a new game looms... I start to come back here and post/read things daily.

I admit, I'm barely active at all here between games, but I'm active loads in the months before and after their release.

I bet you could divide my total pageviews up over the last half dozen games or so, and an appropriate fraction for each one would come from each game, lol...

But yeah... I noticed as well that I'm not seeing a few of the names I got used to seeing the last few games this time around. That's both good and bad though, because like with all areas of the internet, wheras some were fun and friendly folks... others were kind of annoying and argumentative elitists types sooooo... it's kind of a wash.

But HEY... at least we all love Mortal Kombat amirite?

I was sort of a late bloomer for MK, and indeed, gaming in general. I got hooked on MK2 at the arcade because I was an 8 year old kid who loved dinosaurs and Reptile was my favorite thing ever, and I played Mileena a lot because her sai throw was one of the few moves I knew how to do. I never got past, like, the second or third guy on the ladder, but playing with my friends was great.

I got my first gaming system, an SNES, a few years later, around the time the Playstation was out, and played MK2 enough to make my mother think I was going to grow up to be a murderer. I finally got somewhat good at the game, and eventually picked up an old copy of UMK3 and proceeded to never figure out any combos except for Noob's easy button-mash kicks.

Much later, I finally found a copy of MK1.

Completely missed the memo when MK4 came out. Saw some TV spots for Deadly Alliance and thought, "Huh, sounds cool but I don't even have a system for it."

Some time later my friend picked up Deadly Alliance and we played it on his PS2, and that's the day when I actually became a serious Mortal Kombat fan. And the first time I ever felt a sense of "hype" about any video game ever was when I noticed a sidebar ad for Deception with Baraka looking all hell-ass, and I actually kept up with the updates on the official site. When Armageddon came out, that's when I first joined a fan forum (the old Midway boards) and I was crazy excited for what they were going to do next.

Kinda missed the boat for MKvDC. I knew it was going on, but I didn't really follow it and still haven't played it to this day. Not that I had or have any problem with the game -- I just wasn't as excited for it as I would have been for a true sequel, and by the time I really had an opportunity to get it I already had MK9 and all the earlier 3D games felt slow and drab in comparison.

I followed MK9 and Injustice with a passion and I'm following MKX even harder. Last year I cosplayed as Kabal for a couple of conventions. I can't quite say that I've been a lifetime fan, but I'm definitely a fan for life.

My hype level is pretty low tbh. It's risen a bit due to the influx of shiny new information but this is probably the least excited I've been for an MK game since I've started following their development and not just buying them.

The most excited I've ever been for one is Deception. It was ridiculous and a little embarrassing.

Been a fan since first game, I'm pretty hyped for the game, but seemed like Armageddon was when my Hype level was at an all time high, when they showed the picture of all the characters, I was pretty excited to see what would happen, an then was let down with that game. MK9 hype was pretty high as well, this game the hype is there for sure but maybe not as high as previous titles.

Most hyped for MK5, which turned out to be MK:DA. God, that wait was awful, especially since Cage was the next to last confirmation (Kano was last, btw, only by about 3 seconds).
I would have played that game even if none of my favorites were in it. Then, I got a little older and realized I wasn't going to buy something if I didn't have my favorite in it. I learned that with Deception.
I hated the Deception roster, calling it "Reject's Revenge" at the time because most of the mainstays were left out. And I only played it like a week before shelving it. Since then, to this day, I still skip MK games that don't have Johnny as a playable. So my hype level is never what it was, and never will be again.
Yes, most of the old guard that were frequenting this site back when it was still MK5.ORG have disappeared, but I'll bet a lot still visit and don't post. I know when they took the board off boards.gamers.com a lot of users refused to switch sign up for an account here, as well. I think most are like me--they still care, but not enough to post, and only if the roster's right.

Most of us are older now. I used to play mk2 and 3 in the arcade but quite frankly, those arcade games were just too hard. Back then there was no internet or anything to research, so each quarter was a total exploration and it didn't lead to good results. Especially mk3. The gameplay was just so fast and I couldn't keep up.

Mk4 I totally missed. It was probably because of the consoles it was released on.

Played mkda it was okay. I really loved deception and if it weren't for the infinites, I think it would be the best mk so far.

Because I liked deception so much, I really really got into the hype of mka. I really loved the premise of every single character in the game and for the most part I really enjoyed it. Except for the create a fighter mess that ruined online play and those air cancel infinites. If these games were able to be patched, it would be great. I am actually replaying konquest mode right now and I am enjoying it.

Shaolin monks was very enjoyable. It was totally different and I liked that.

Mk vs dc was very blah for me. I don't like comics.

Mk9 was good, but not spectacular. The online mode was very poorly coded and that's where I play the most.

I will say that I'm buying into the hype of mkx almost as much as mka was for me. Still being older, it's not that exciting, but I think that is just age. I am pleased with the facton play and everything and it seems netherealm is really putting their money into the game finally.
