Today (or tonight, in my case) is the time for ESL Season 1 Finals!
16 most succesful players, combined from Europe and North America, from ESL online tournaments held throughout the year since the game came out are about to engage in one final (offline) showdown. There's 100,000$ in prize money!
North America is lead by SonicFox, REO (these two are paired against each other in round 1!), PerfectLegend and Pig of the Hut, while Europe's greatest hopes lie with A F0xy Grampa (UK) and Nivek (Greece). F0xy and Nivek already bested Justing Wong and PerfectLegend in a mid-season offline exhibition. Can they top North America once more, can they beat SonicFox?
Full bracket (double elimination type) is available here.
The show will be streamed at the official Netherrealm Twitch.tv channel (link).
The stream is expected to go live at 11 am PDT (2 pm EDT), while the first match is expected to start at 12 pm PDT (3 pm EDT). For help with time zone conversion click here.

SonicFox is using Royal Storm Kitana for the Tanya match-up, just beat REO's Tanya in round 1 2-0!
Me so happy to see Kitana!

Dammit I was getting my hair cut. Foxy vs Sonic finale would be sweet.
Big D's Ermac was impressive versus Nivek's Raiden. Nivek didn't look as good as he can be, nerves maybe?
EDIT: That final match of r1, CheapEddie vs Pig of the Hut, was the best in r1, so close. Great delayed aromored wake-up by Pig to take it and stop Eddie's comeback. Eddie's win-dance in game 2 was hilarious.

Yo, fuck Sonicfox that little shit destroyed me in Skullgirls the other day.

That was unexpected. Grandpa is in the loser bracket. Very one sided match as well.

I too am surprised. I thought F0xy would do better versus Pig's Kenshi than CheapEddie did with Cage since Lao has better mobility than Cage. :-\

That Kitana makes me want to pick her up and learn her so badly. That was flawless, picture perfect play.

I wish SonicFox was using a character that is actually fun to watch like he usually does. Oh well.
Pig vs SonicFox should be a good match. Hopefully PL doesn't make it far in loser bracket. Can't stand him.

SonicFox is just extremely good. I think he could go far with any character even Goro. Even low tier characters are viable which was was not the case in MK9. I still do not like seeing so many Kung Laos though.

Oh I know that he can make anyone seem like they are viable for tournament play. He destroyed me in a few Skullgirls matches and was switching up his team so he can also do it in that game too.
As lame as Erron Black is.... I love watching SonicFox play as him because of how extreme his pressure game is.

Agreed. I think I've only seen him use Raiden's enhanced/armored shocker once so far. Odd...
I love watching this tourney though, it's great having players from so many different countries playing MK at a high level. Hopefully all of them come to Evo!

I've noticed that they always try to make Nivek seem like a huge deal yet it always seems like he drops the ball whenever I watch him play. Yet to be really impressed with him.
CheapEddie Vs VHD was a pretty even match until that last round. VHD just had no answer for that pressure.

lol @ Brazil Johnny, I just can't believe those skins... Cool to see Cage doing well, he too was considered low-ish tier early on.

I would say Johnny Cage is about middle tier to be honest. Bottom tier in my opinion are Goro, Mileena, Jason and Reptile. Probably forgetting one or two though.
