I really liked The Evil Tower and The Belltower from Armageddon. Both were pretty good imo and Botan Jungle was good as well. I don't really remember any others though
EDIT: Almost forgot The Subway that was pretty kick ass too.

Those were some good picks, especially the Evil Tower.
The Meteor Storm a.k.a NOT The Pit II was pretty cool, too.
Armageddon had a weirder emphasis on orchestrated sounding tracks that made the game feel kinda like a cheesy action movie or tv show, but now that I think about it, that's perfect for what the "ending" to the series would have been.
I always liked how MK games used sounds from the environment to make music, and The Armory's rendition in Armageddon stuck with me.
Motor Kombat had some good ones too. Bo Rai Cho's Brewery in particular reminds me of MGS2. And I even liked some of the more relaxed tracks too, like the main menu theme, which had that ambient feel to it like Deception's Earthrealm theme. Kreate-A-Kombatant's theme was sorta chill and catchy too. And this never failed to get me a little pumped up for a battle, as simple as it was.
I know Armageddon had it's criticisms for gameplay, which I share some, but all around it wasn't that bad. In retrospect it had a lot of neat little things I didn't appreciate because at the time I was being a nerdy fanboy and harping on the negatives when casual fans and video game players just enjoyed it.

Okay, I lied. Forgot about Meteor Storm.
What have I been doing with my life? We're one month out, and I usually play all the priors when leading into a new installment.
@Tigerstyle wow, I didn't even really listen to the Motor Kombat tracks. I really like the one you posted, and I agree. I didn't really appreciate details like that when I was playing the actual game. A lot of people consider it to be a shit game because it seems like a rehash of Deception at first but they added a lot of new content that was ignored.
@unleash I usually revisit the games before a new release as well, I should definitely play Armageddon again soon.

The tournaments were definitely martial arts with 2 having some fantasy that was oriental. MK3 is post-apocalyptic imo sith additions like Stryker and Kabal. MK4 kind of feels more martial arts along with the koquest modes but the 3D Era otherwise became fantasy on the oriental side. MKX seems to be expanding on this and I have a feeling that part of this is due to Game of Thrones even though we probably won't ever see a character from it/ASOIAF unfortunately.

Dat gameplay tho...
I think I'll just stick to the Mini-Games and Konquest, lol. It's been too long, and I can't be wasting time trying to learn all that gameplay again. That's just begging for a migraine. Anywho, 3D era, here I come!
Oh, and I don't think Armageddon was all-around, flat out, bash your brains into a wall terrible either. There were some great elements to it, and I'm actually stoked that they are making use of bits of it's storyline. But ultimately and unfortunately, for me at least, the cons just outweighed the pros.

Looking back I felt it was cheap that everyone only had one fighting style, but I was coming off of 100% completing Deception, which was meant to be an in-depth fighter. Armageddon was a party game and was popular for it, and I didn't try to play it as such at first, I tried to play it like it would rival Deception in depth.
I suppose I wasn't too bummed about fatalities but you can only watch them so many times anyway. When you're playing it every day you start to skip them sooner or later.

That moment when you don't have a PS2 anymore and you have Mortal Kombat: Deception calling your name to play some Konquest.

Fuck it, my PS2 disc of Armageddon doesn't work anymore, I'm gonna buy the Wii one.
Nobody plays it online anymore anyway. What does it have besides the extra endurance mode? A few more video cards and krypt stuff?
Someone said the graphics are a bit better but I'm not too sure on that.

Neither of my Deception discs work anymore so I just play Unchained on my vita lol. It's not that bad actually, a bit slower fps but it's still fun.
Also I totally agree @unleash. The gameplay was fucking awful. Don't even bother trying to learn hardcore combos, just find the character you want to use, learn a popup combo and do a shitty air combo afterwards. Usually gives like 40% easily lol

Scorpion's Hapkido, and Sub-Zero's Shotokan are just about all I remember how to work with, lol. Once I get to Deception, I might just refresh myself on Liu Kang's Pao Chui because THEN I've got Armageddon Reptile covered, haha.

I remembered Khameleon but forgot to write her down in that post.
It's funny, people actually could've made their own Khameleon before the wii version.
I'll be doing some MK9 outfits when I pop the game back in.

I don't get the feeling that MKX "doesn't feel like Mortal Kombat." I actually think this is what the MK world was always like from MK3 onward, ever since invasions of realms by force started happening. There is absolutely no reason the military would not get involved, and even four of the Deadly Alliance cast were Special Forces.
Sure, MK3 came up with the excuse that all the people on Earth were instantly dead when Shao Kahn invaded, but that was seriously only so they could get away with having empty streets as backgrounds instead of dragons and soldiers and riots and chaos. Now the creators have the technical ability to show what these invasions actually looked like, and I welcome that. Watching Scorpion and Sub-Zero Multality an entire squad really sells how powerful they're supposed to be.

I felt like MK3 and MK9's MK3 scenes had that Mortal Kombat aesthetic and atmosphere though is what I mean. I've felt very little of that in MKX is what I'm saying.
I feel like MK hasn't had that martial arts/kung fu thing going on since MKII. I mean it was kind of back in MKDA with the added focus on fighting styles and the whole art design for that game but outside of that it's been pretty much the same since MK3. That when they started delving into a more western/futuristic aesthetic.

Kinda, and I would not put MK2 there either....
Time to evolve. I do hope they keep the kung fu focus predominant though, despite that I would not mind seeing european myths and stufff put in: normanns, vikings, celtic myths...

MK2's music and stage design was fairly asian inspired. Monasteries, pavilions, ying yangs, etc.
I get that and I really hope stages have more asian inspired background music. You do hear the MK typical sound at the beginning of trailers / character reveals, but that's about it so far.
I don't think we can judge the rest since even in Kotal Kahn's empire where he talks to the Special Four in the story trailer, the architecture is Asian. I actually like that they try to be more diverse, not enough in my opinion though.
I want the game to stay true to its Asian origin as far as warriors, fighting styles and stuff, but also with the more darker setting, I wish that delve more into mythology and dark fantasy.
The stages so far look awesome, very diverse actually, but just because they have dark clouds, does not make it 'dark'. More stages involving wastelands, dark forests, mythical buildings - just more Outworld exploration basically.
That's why I feel characters like Baraka, Havik and other mystical, weird creatures would fit this game's feeling perfectly. Anyways, with regards to the classic feeling, there are indeed a lot more 'Asian' (inspired) characters. However, Kenshi, Kung Jin & Takeda feel far from Asian so far. Their looks are more Special Forces than anything else.

I definitely do like Kotal's Aztec motif, and all the more original things they came up with like Order/Chaosrealm that weren't entirely asian-inspired, I'm just saying even with that asian ruined city in story mode I'm just not getting that overall kung-fu-flick vibe that I get from the other games and I'm not sure why. But I'm not really willing to pin that on all the Special Forces stuff, since we've had a lot of that before.
I skimmed OP's post and this thread so maybe I'm way off, but I swear this thread is made every single time a new MK game comes out.
But for reals, anybody who liked the horribly written MK9 train wreck of a story can go fuck themselves. And I mean that as a compliment, like treat yourself right. Light some candles, spray some perfume and put on some boys to men and go fuck yourself.
EDIT: Shit, I sound way too angry in print form haha. I don't actually mean what I'm saying, for the record. I liked parts of MK9 story too and I am a ninja palette swap fanboy so I am a sucker for the classics too!

Why do you have to be like that? I liked the story and I can obviously see that it has flaws but jeez. I like you, Spaceman, but you're being kind of a dick lol.

I liked MK9's story but in retrospect some of the writing for it was kind of shitty.
The least they could have done was explain why the Elder Gods cannot interfere with Earth so they don't seem like incompetent assholes, explain the actual rules of the MK tournament, and give a reason for why Raiden's message was vague. Any kind of magic interference would have worked.
I know I mentioned one of those in the thread I have in my signature

lol my bad guys! tried to take it back with a ninja edit. My post is very dickish, I am not quite that passionate about hating the MK9 story and don't wanna shit on people who enjoyed it! I'm on beer numba five so that type of shit just kinda comes out of my mouth. You guys can turn off the boys to men now
And to get back on topic, OP brings up a good point that I've already noticed is kinda continuing to hurt the story in the comics too. Why is Raiden so vague??? Like it causes so much trouble and makes people hate his character. Do the writers purposely want him to be the blunder god? It's an awkward trait for a GOD to have
