Note to mods: If there is a topic about this already started then don't hesitate to close this. That being said, what do you think the title of MK9 will be? Right now i haven't really thought of a good one yet so i'll let you all discuss. What's a good title for MK9, or what do you think it should be called?

Mortal Kombat 8: The Legend of Curly's Gold.
Or speaking seriously, it will probably be something that communicates the game's overall theme like the last 3 titles. If this game is canon and not a reboot, I'd imagine they're not going to do anything drastic. I'd put my money on a traditional villain. With big turning points in the series, we typically get a refinement, not an innovation
The game after next, we're probably get something more fresh. After all, MK came out Hiatus with the familiarity of Deadly Alliance, and they tied that into a more alien story segment in the next game. I don't think MK8 and MK9 will be any different.
If Kahn is the villain, I guess they could do something like "Mortal Kombat: Tyranny" or "Mortal Kombat: Decimation," or even "Mortal Kombat and the Prisoner of Azkaban." Sky's the limit.
But truthfully, they should just call it what it is: Mortal Kombat 8. I have no problem with that title. James Rolfe said it best: It almost seems that creators stop numbering their games/movies because they're ashamed of how many sequels they have.

Tis true, but i think there will definitely be a title. Didn't they start actually giving names starting with MK: DA? I think this will have a title, but i'm so unsure what it will be.

I agree. However, there's the problem of them regarding MK vs DCU as MK8 which is beyond stupid so they're calling this new game MK9. I'm sure they've lost the plot over at MK Team HQ.

MkvsDC appealed to a lot of drifted fans, so it may be to our benefit that they don't know MKvsDC is the 8th installment. Funny thinking about it, but a lot of my friends who bought MKvsDC didn't even know Armageddon existed. It feels strange calling the new game MK8, but it feels wrong calling it MK9.

It won't benefit us though if the MK Team go ahead and call the new game MK9. In my eyes it won't be. They've taken MK vs DCU as being canon and given it a number as a result. It's a shame as it's ruined the continuity of the series, imo.
And if you think your friends are bad, some of mine didn't know an MK game had been made after MK3 / UMK3. Some were shocked that MK was still in production.

In all seriousness though, if it is a reboot, it should just be simply
Mortal Kombat
There's another franchise that did that. I think it was a movie, can't remember right now, probably friday the 13th, but my point is, is that all those numbers and names and crap is unnecessary if dealing with a reboot. Just tell me what the hell i'm playing, and if i know it was released recently, then i know that it is new, fresh, and awesome.
ah! it was the new Aliens versus Predator game. Its the third game, but instead of calling it AvP3, its just, uh, Aliens versus Predator, and i like that simplicity. makes it feel like its fresh, even though it may be a rehash.
but then again....if its not a reboot.....

Im gonna guess it will be called just "Mortal Kombat" but i can see a word representing repetition. like MK Revolutions.

It will probably have a worded title. It seems weird to call it "MK9," "MK8," or even "MK7" (it's not like Mortal Kombat Trilogy was "MK4" was it?). They don't really know what they are calling what, so a name like "Mortal Kombat: Revelation" or something of the such makes sense. But even then, it becomes easily to lose touch of which one is which for casuals to the series.
Just plain old "Mortal Kombat," in my opinion, is the easiest way to go. It refreshes things, gives people a new entry point, and it's not like people are going to get confused between a new age MK and the original arcade classic. For the sequel, go "Mortal Kombat X." It'd be a wink to people who have followed the games, and know that we'd be up to the tenth game, and "X" is a letter associated with "extreme" and adult concepts.

For some reason, MK 9 or Mortal Kombat just sound to dry. I mean sometimes when I go over it in my mind, either sound okay but I then get the feeling that something should be attached to it's title. I don't know. Maybe it's because ever since they decided to add subtitles, starting with Deadly Alliance (or Trilogy if you prefer), I feel it kind of changed how we, or at least I perceive how future iterations would/should be named.
I find that many times people that reply seriously to these types of threads on here, seem to use subtitles like: "Revelations" or "Resurrection" or "Rebirth", you know? Something I think that they sub/conciously do, because they want to give way to the next story of the game and shed light on the events after Armageddon (plus they probably have become accustomed to the way story themed subtitles are now being used). Same goes with other subtitles people give, that are based around story but don't necessarily suggest closure or renewal.
I feel, if they want to do something pretty different, they should add a subtitle. But instead name it something that's detached from story. So, as an example maybe something like, "Mortal Kombat: The Arts of Death". So then this describes more of the nature of MK, especially if it's going to go darker and more serious in tone. Also, the art team should create a new look for the dragon logo, to give the box cover a fresh presentation.

just mortal kombat, who is counting anyways..we the fans..and even some fans lost trail. Besides that...I think that just calling it mortal kombat shows the public that MK is making a new start..forgetting all the mediocre games. I believe this is something MK needs.
