How about we just improve Mileena and Baraka's stories, instead of introducing some offspring on the unfounded hope that it'd be any luckier than either of it's parents?

The best offspring after Cassie would be...Kidd Thunder! Now's his chance to be canonized, by making Raiden's MK9 ending canon and naming one of those new recruits KT. Yeah!

Or it could happen afterwards. In all likelihood, assuming such an offspring were to exist, the likeliest time frame for them to reach for power would be towards the end of the 25-year period. Remember, we already know Kotal rises and falls.

And if Mileena has problems convincing the people she has a right to the throne, she can always throw on some blue clothes and call it a day. Worked last time.

Barring her birthday retcon, Mileena has actually had a pretty good run, not sure what needs improving there. She managed to lay hands on the throne last time; if she does again, power to her.

But Baraka? I stopped hoping for him to become interesting a decade ago. You always hear how people would like goon characters to become more important to the story but few suggestions as to how. If we're going to improve a goon, I'd take Reiko - he at least has shown ambition to be something more than a lapdog.

Folks who aren't fans of offspiring or relatives are really going to come away from MKX disappointed, methinks.

If it bleeds its a mortal. What I believe you ment to say is that they have huge life span. For Mileena this is right, not sure about Baraka.

Even if Mileena rose to power after Kotal, it doesn't mean she'd have an offspring. She is immortal after all, so an heir isn't necessary, and I doubt Shao Kahn ever meant for Mileena to replace him unless he got killed, perhaps.

As far as I'm concerned, only the human characters could really need offsprings, being mortal and all and even then, NRS has to tread carefully.

Another thing is, what would an offspring of Mileena and Baraka look like? Would it be a full-blown Tarkatan like Baraka, and if so, could it have any moves Baraka didn't have that NRS couldn't just give to a new, unrelated Tarkatan character instead? if the offspring was a largely Edenian-looking character with Tarkatan teeth like Mileena, would it be given sais? That'd make it a pointless Mileena replacement, and new, original moves could instead be given to an unrelated new character, like I already said.

You know, just for laughs, they could always release a next-generation DLC pack (or better yet make them unlockable in-game), with non-canon offspring characters as alts for the characters that merely look like younger versions of them. A parody of the baby characters in the Mario games (Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, even Baby Daisy for fuck's sake). Cassie and Ferra's offsprings would truly only be alternate outfits for them, Kobra could be either Kano or Johnny's whiny offspring, and for Scorpion, it shouldn't be an alternate character but an alternate outfit, like Cassie and Ferra, where he wears nothing but his mask and a diaper, but with Baby Scorpion's voice from MK9 (not when he gets hit or killed during fatalities though).

Edenians are not immortal, they just have extremely long lifespans. They age very slowly (behold SIndel's white hair), and then die. And as Mileena has part Tarkatan DNA, her lifespan is, if anything, probably measurable in a few thousand years.

The only immortals in MK are the gods and elder gods. Edenians have kids and propogate the species like any other race, they just live much longer.

There's no rule that says their offspring would have or need either sais or blades, although blades are a safe bet considering the majority of Tarkatan blood she's got.

And for all we know, that kid could grow up learning to use blades in a completely different way than his or her old man did.

Really, let's just go ahead and rename this thread "shit all over the concept of offspring because I don't like Ed's implication characters we know could be replaced by relatives."

Oh, offspring characters aren't inherently a problem, just pointless ones like Miraka, or Bareena (as I'll call an offspring of Mileena and Baraka). Even if Edenians have a long lifespan, it's safe to say that as long as Mileena doesn't get killed, she'll still be alive by the end of MKX's story. An offspring of hers, if it was necessary, would only be so in a MK game set thousand of years into the future.

Cassie's got the chance to shine as a character, because NRS respects Sonya and Johnny much more than Mileena and Baraka. If NRS thinks so little of these two, what makes you think they'd treat their offspring as anything more than a joke? Chances are, Cassie would be constantly making fun of that offspring.

Thing is, people who sit on thrones in this series do tend to end up dead sooner or later. Jerrod, Onaga, Kahn himself. Personally, I'd make it my business to pop out my own future heir as soon as possible if I had some sort of fixation about keeping my family in power or securing my legacy, which Mileena probably would. I don't see her resting on her laurels, sitting back and enjoying a long, trouble-free reign. Plus, I have a feeling this game's going to kill off a lot of characters. Ed did say it'd be hard to write a sequel for it, after all...

I don't think NRS lack respect for Baraka or Mileena. They were among the big marketing faces of Deception, after all, and they're classic characters. But they know that some characters, like Baraka, have few uses, and that new characters have freedom to go anywhere - be they offspring or not.

Hell, their kid could have more of his father in him/her and decide he/she doesn't want to be constrained by a throne, or even to be part of a jagged-toothed army of mutants, at all. I could really see their kid as falling under the "raised to be an heir and having zero interest in it" trope.

I personally think Mileena would be infertile, being a clone and all. But I think the Miraka Baleena thing is a little stupid considering Baraka and Mileena try to kill each other a lot so would not be procreating, and they only seemed to be paired because of the Tarkatan thing. But in that case, we might as well pair Jax and Jade for being darker skinned and Fujin and Hotaru should adopt since they're long white-haired and 'asian' looking.

No. Mileena betrayed Baraka only once, and that was in Deception. They were allies until then and more; their relationship dates all the way back to MKII where they're "secret companions". In this new timeline, there's no animosity between them, and their relationship hasn't been explored yet.

I personally don't mind seeing other Tarkatan characters, I'd just like to see what happened to both of these characters.

However, like how some people assumed Kitana and Liu Kang have been in a relationship in the last game, nothing in 2011 showed either of these characters showing interest in the other. I don't think these even had an interaction at all with the exception of him announcing that Mileena should be the heir after Kahn's first "death." That doesn't really say anything about him being interested.

If there should be another Tarkatan being introduced, it should be Baraka's third cousin, twice removed named Fred.

I don't think I can see them having a kid. Mileena is like a kid herself, she's a little girl mentally in a grown women's body. So making her have a kid, just feels really uncomfortable to be. It kinda disgusts me knowing she's a woman child and she's sexualized.

Ed's said there will be relations and descendants of known characters in the game, and I just don't think we've seen all of them yet. This doesn't mean I actually think we'll get Reptile Jr. and Baraka Jr. and Baby Sektor beta v00.01; that the game will be entirely composed of these characters (but I'll laugh all the way to the bank if we do). I just think we might get another, is all.


The point is that theorizing over said possibilities is fun, and there's no need to be goddamned condescending to others' viewpoints if you don't agree with them. But, you know, I don't expect that much out of half of this board's members nowadays...

In regards to Mileena's ditzy/child-like behavior has anyone else made the inference that maybe its because she was just born? She has the body of a women but the tendencies of a child at that point in time?

I mean we witnessed her birth/creation in MK9's storyline which takes place in the MK2 game. Did we ever know she didn't act like this in MK2? Now I am not saying that way back then Midway made that call that she was child-like and we never knew it. But if she appeared in MKX nothing says that she'll continue to act that way. Everyone loves MKD Mileena so much but it doesn't mean she didn't have to become that women.

Just a thought I guess.

To answer your question, yes. A lot of people got the concept of her being a child is due to her being just made. But it certainly was not a direction many enjoyed.

To be honest, I didn't care much about her child-like personality either, doesn't matter if she was just created or was around for a while. I thought it was just bleh on their part. But who knows what will happen to her for X, she might not even be around for it.

What is the Tarkatan gestation period?

Hopefully Cassie if the only one we have in MKX. Would much rather have completely new fighters from different realms.
