Ever since that story trailer today, will we see Shinnok as the sub-boss while Liu Kang is the true main villain (anti-hero)?

What do you all think?

Well not just Shinnok but also Quan Chi.

I mean all three will be the main antagonists.

I'm still not sold on the idea of Kang being the big bad/final boss yet. Not that I don't think it will or could happen, I just have trouble picturing it right now.

I guess if liu is angryd about the events of MK9 and gets slightly corrupted in the Netherrealm I could see it happening, but I still don't see him being a straight up villain.

Don't forget the Kamidogu are also probably going to be in play as well. One of them could've easily powered up/disturbed/possessed Liu Kang even more after the end of MK9. Especially if he's been manipulated by Quan Chi or Shinnok at all.

Didn't Himmerick say that the Big Bad will be obvious from the trailer? Liu Kang wasn't in the trailer.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, the final boss sill isn't exactly obvious either. I think ol' Himmerick forgets that he helps make the game.

I think Shang Tsung is going to be the final boss.

Ed said the main villain will be a surprise returning character that no one would expect and after what happened to him in MK9, nobody would expect Shang Tsung to return.

This theory isn't new, it has been around since the beginning, some even suggest he will be "fire god" Kang from his non-canon MK9 ending.

I think Liu Kang could be a bit evil.

I don't think he would work as a final boss but if he is Fire god Liu Kang, I think that could actually be a good turn for Liu Kang.

He is a very powerful warrior and making him a god will really be dangerous for Both the good guys and the bad guys.

That's why I think he should be a lone wolf type character in MKX. He protects Earthrealm but on his own.

I would like to see Liu Kang given more personality than just a protector with a big and good heart.

Even with all MK Legacy's flaws, they managed to make me like Liu Kang and they gave him sooo much that the games never did try to give him.

No way is he gonna be a God, calling it now; he's gonna be all deranged and has a Kamidogu that enhances his fire powers.

I'm still going with amulet-powered Mileena as the sub-boss and Fire God Liu Kang as the big bad.

He didn't say the big bad would be shown, and with the red cloud coming from the Shaolin temple i can see Liu Kang being the final boss, no way he'll miss this game anyway.

He never said "after what happened to him in MK9". You just made that up. That being said, you saying that instantly made me think of Motaro.

That's right! You heard it here first folks! The final boss of MKX is Motaro!

I only see Liu Kang as Neutral this time around and I can never see him as the big bad.

It's always been a possibility, and it seemed the red cloud came from the shaolin/white lotus temple area.

But I've yet to see a good reason for him to be the boss, or theory on what his motivation would be.

I agree. Also, I was wondering in Mortal Kombat universe, can there be more than one gods of the same element? There's already a god of fire, as seen in Mythologies. While Sub Zero defeated him in Mythologies, he was killed until briefly before MK4. Depend how this timeline work, he may have survived and still be the god of fire. Liu Kang can't seemly stole his job.

To me it's looking like Mileena. Which I think would be badass! It's looking a lot less like Liu now to me, which is great for me!

Is Liu Kang in the game? I think so. Takeda does look similar to Liu Kang, but the character shown in the tower that we speculated was Liu Kang does not match up with either of his costumes (if his Sharai Ryu costume had a headband I could see an argument for it, but it doesn't). There is also a Shaolin looking boot that doesn't match up with any of the revealed characters so far. I'm led to believe this is Liu Kang's boot.

Mythologies WAS FUCKING BEFORE MK1 NOT MK4.
Somebody was mentioning that the demon released in the comics was clearly Havik due to some very pointed hints and while I am not as delusional as the reiko is going to be the mkx boss fanboys perhaps Havik plays some role in turning liu kang darkside.

Also if this game is about the next generation of mortal kombat fighters to truly make them centric to the story as the stars overcoming the original mortal kombat video game champion and face of the original generation would surely do just that.
I could be wrong but, NRS just did a game where the main villain was an evil version of the ultimate good guy. Would they want to retread that already? Also people have been joking about Liu ending up a villain for a while, since before Zombie Kang was a thing so I don't know if that'd be "unexpected" like the devs are saying when everyone seems to be thinking it'll be Liu. As far as what other people said about giving Kang flaws or whatever, "flawed" heroes are starting to become lazy and almost cliche at this point.

If that's Kang in the tower he doesn't seem too evil. Unless he's got alts or something, I guess nobody really knows.

Though didn't they say the main villain would be sorta obvious from the story trailer?

Given the headband, the body armour you see and Takeda's roots, that could very well be Takeda. Nothing screams Liu Kang about that other than the pose.
You could be right. It doesn't seem to have the scarf Takeda has, and the gloves and shoulder pads look different, but it might be an older model.

Nah, Takeda has more armor on him than that in his primary and I'm assuming the ninja garb thats similar to Scorpion is Takeda's alternate. The person in the tower is most definitely Liu kang.
