I would wish for Liu to start off becoming a rogue type of bad guy and later if the next game is possible, he can become the new king of Edenia with Kitana.

Agreed. I would love to see that side of Kitana and Liu.

Im not shure if he will be the bad guy. In a german magazine Supposedly Ed said that Liu, Sonya and Cage, all will have 3 diferent versions of theirselves acording to their ages. If thats true, Will he age as a bad man that eventually become too powerfull like to be the bad guy?? or just will age like kung Lao to be the mentor of the new generations??
I doubt that since Cage and Liu Kang were unconfirmed just a few short days ago.
Although, I assume that story wise, characters like Johnny Cage will have variations that they'll only use specifically during eras. You won't see Special Forces stuff during the Netherrealm war.

Edgy re-imaginings of heroes or turning them into villains has been so much in the last couple of decades it's just hack writing at this point.

They don't even have to turn him into a villain, just make him serious, badly tempered, and focused.
Like Kitana- even if she's on the forces of good- I'm loving that new fierceness about her. It's a nice change from that goody-goody princess stuff we've had for years. I don't see what's so hack about that.

That ́s why a said Supposedly, The pages where translated in this forum, and Ed Supposedly confirmed those 3 characters in that interview.
And why no special forces stuff during netherrealm war? Special forces existed long before Mk1 as a part of american army. Besides, i think variations will be used in eras but i don ́t think thats a rule.

Kang was always focused but I'm not saying he has to come back exactly like he was in MK1/2, he can distrust Raiden and be just a bit more serious, but making him into a villain or trying to edge up his appearance or attitude would be silly and lazy writing. Stuff like Kang in MK Legacy feels like writers are just embarrassed of writing a traditional hero figure and know they aren't good enough to play it straight so they have to fall back on edgy cliches.

Yeah but why are you judging this as silly and lazy writing when you haven't seen what they've come up with yet? Just because other forms of media has done it in a way that hasn't pleased you doesn't mean NRS will.
Characters must change and adapt. That's development and a very natural evolution of a story. Characters staying exactly the same does not a good story make. That's the lazy writing my dear.
These characters must grow with the story- that's good writing. I take it you're not much of a writer.

I'm saying the concept of it is silly and lazy because of how often it's been done and never been done good, so I have an idea of what it would be like if NRS did. I like NRS and I liked MK9's story but it wasn't phenomenal or anything so I doubt they'd do a great job with something like that. I haven't said that MKX's story is undoubtedly bad without having played the game.
And character growth is great but not every character needs to completely change with a new installment of a franchise. If Kang comes back straight up evil or the final boss without being cursed b a Kamidogu or something then yes, that'll be pretty silly because even with MK9's story mode the character was never supposed to be a petty shmuck like that. That's all I'm sayin'.

That's very audacious and a little bit asinine to go basing everything off of what other TV shows and Movies and games have done. You can do that with ANYTHING if that's the case- I don't like MK being about tournaments because that's been done so many times before. Ew, I don't like MK having a female agent with blonde hair because several TV shows and Movies have had female agents/police officers with blonde hair. That's is extremely dumb.
To each their own. But as a writer, I'm open to where the story takes me and sometimes the story takes you to unexpected places. Open your mind, free yourself of your insipid and judgmental little straps you're trying to bind SOMEONE else's story too.
I suggest you read Stephen King's On Writing.

Hey I never said they had to use my shitty cliche ideas either, I just said it's becoming lazy at this point. Redone settings are one thing, but in this day and age it's a huge fad to take traditionally heroic characters and edge them up, and I think it's a lazy and predictable one.
Liu Kang's not even my favorite character, but I appreciate what he is/was and that archetype of character instead of thinking it HAS to change just because it's not my favorite. If they wanted to change him or give him growth I think it'd be a better option to make him a mentor type character to the new guard of heroes and let him retire. Not saying NRS has definitely written him as evil this time around, I just think that's a better idea than making him evil of his own will because of MK9's tragic ending like some people propose.
