Ok so as a MK fan since 1992 I have always loved the story. Its been pretty easy too follow with a few debates as to if something is canon or not. One blurry area for me is between MK4 and Deadly alliance with how Sub Zero becomes the grandmaster of the Lin Kuei.

So lets go through the timeline of some Lin Kuei members and hopefully you can help piece this together for me....

Mortal kombat 1

Sub zero: member of lin kuei at the tounament and the gets killed by Scorpion

Cyrax and Sektor: at tournament in human form

Sektor's father is current grandmaster of lin kuei.

Now skip to mk3

Sub zero's brother is assisting the forces of light in defending from shao kahns attack.

Sektor volunteers to become a cyborg for lin kuei and the clan assists shao kahn

Same for cyrax aside from it being against his will.

Mk4

Sub zero puts on his brothers costume and assists the forces of light.

Sektor evil and tries to kill cyrax and the special forces

Cyrax tries to free himself from lin kuei control. In his ending he succeeds which we can assume is cannon based on mkda. In sektors ending he kills them all which is obviously false.

Now to the fuzzy part.

Mkda

Sub zero is grand master of the lin kuei.
Cyrax is apart of the special forces
Sektor is absent.

So I kinda pieced together through the mk4 bio of sub zero that after mk3 the lin kuei had disbanded after mk3. So does sub zero reform the clan for mk deadly alliance and if so, what happened to sektor's father and why doesn't sektor take control of the lin kuei. Or at this point is he too busy creating his own clan of cybernetic ninjas. In Armageddon Sektor is the leader of the Tenkkunin or whatever its called.

So anyway what are your thoughts?

In the old timeline, Sektor killed his father and attempted to take the Dragon Medallion in order to take control of the Lin Kuei. Sub-Zero intervened, challenged him to Mortal Kombat, and defeated him. Sektor fled to Japan and formed the Tekunin while Sub-Zero became the new Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei.

He re-establishes the Lin Kuei as a place to recruit "good guys" and such. That's how we're introduced to Frost. Deadly Alliance, in my opinion, had the best story for Sub-Zero.

Ahh thank you that makes sense. I know they hinted at sektor attempting to slay his father, but I didn't know they were cannon to the story. So after MK3 when the Lin Kuei were kinda weak is when this happened.

Yes, Sektor killing the grandmaster and Sub-Zero defeating him and becoming the new one happened between MK4 and MKDA.

In the new timeline, Sektor secretly wanted to usurp his father. In the old timeline, Sektor's decision to take over the Lin Kuei came (at least partially) from corrupted programming after fighting the forces of Outworld during MK3 and I think some forces in MK4. With that said, Sektor should have been less human in how he talked in MK: Armageddon. But yeah, the Lin Kuei were definitely weakened after Shao Kahn's invasion in MK3.

Yea in MK Armageddon most of Sektor's programming is deteriorated. I am not sure if that means he can think for himself or if it means his priorities are just messed up, or maybe a little of both haha.

I never tried the GBA port of deadly alliance. It looks awful even with Sektor in it. Although it does explain everything haha

You missed nothing great about that game. Even if it did further explain a bit with Sektor, there was nothing about that game that was remotely enjoyable.
